I was sitting in front of the dressing mirror in Cat's room. Allison was standing right in front of me perfecting my wing eyeliner. Stacy was straightening my long curly hair. Cat was somewhere around the room doing whatever it was she did. Angela was, well she was just sat on the bed flipping through the pages of Elle magazine.
"I just don't get the need of all this when I'd be in the water for most of the night." I complained for the umpteenth time.
"You expected us to let you attend that party without dolling you up. This party can make or break you 'cause a lot of students attending our university will be there. This is the time to make yourself known." Cat said as she walked out her closet. "I'm ready." She clapped her hands.
"Bollocks! Who cares about being known." I rolled my eyes.
"I know I do. And so does every other person here. You should care too."
"And I'm done." Allison announced as she moved away from my face giving me breathing space.
"Did you remember to wear you bikini under your clothes?." Cat asked and I replied positive.
She had forced me to buy the black bikini the day before, a clothing I deemed too revealing. She tried convincing me that I looked hot in it and that was the only reason I succumbed to her 'cause she wasn't lying.
I was wearing a white crop top and a rugged baggy jean. Cat tried to make me wear a dress but she didn't succeed.
"We're all set girls." Stacy said as she got the hair straightener out of my hair.
"OMG you look amazing." Cat squealed when I got on my feet.
"Thanks. You look beautiful too." I was bad at taking compliments but I do know that I looked different in a good way tonight. My hair were rod straight and so long they almost reached my waist.
"Let's go."
******
The first thing I noticed as we walked into the gates to Dave's house was that his parents must be filthy rich. He lived in a f*****g mansion that put aunt Cassie's two storey building to shame.
We had just entered the house when I had somehow gotten caught in a crowd. By the time I got out of it, I couldn't find anyone of the girls.
Spiffing
The loud music made it difficult to call out anyone's name and I didn't even have anyone of their numbers on my phone. I made a mental note to change that when I finally find them.
I walked down the hallway taking a left turn and somehow I found myself back where I was before. I decided to go outside to look for the pool instead. It was an outdoor party but clearly some were still partying indoor.
The compound was vast. I didn't even know where to turn to left or right. My feet kept moving till I saw a guy who looked to drunk to be able to speak but then I tried my luck. I asked where the pool was and he pointed west immediately my legs began carrying me there.
Soon after walking for what felt like hours I found the Olympic sized swimming pool. I thought the people inside were a lot but they were nothing compared to the ones out here. Some were in the pool and others around it. I watched a girl push a girl–who was probably too scared to jump in to the enormous swimming pool–in. And her loud scream was muffled by the booming music.
The environment was well illuminated it almost felt like we were in the day. My eyes scanned around for anyone remotely familiar but unfortunately no one came in sight.
Just when I was about going to sit on one of the empty lounge chair, an arm wrapped around my waist making me jump up a bit.
"Did I startle you?." a deep voice whispered in my ear.
I relaxed a bit at the familiarity of the voice.
"Yes you did." I turned around and in front of me was Nick. My heart was still beating fast.
"Sorry about that." He chuckled softly and my eyes went large at that. His smile was beautiful. He had two dimples on either side of his cheek. He was gorgeous.
"Just don't do that again." I tucked a few strands of hair behind my hair.
"You look pretty."
"Just pretty?." I teased with an eyebrow up.
"That's the most compliment you'd get out of me. Now where are the others?"
I shrugged." Lost them."
"You plan on getting in the water in that.?"
"Yup. Nothing better than swimming with your clothes on."
He chuckled.
"Sarcasm I see. Come on I'll take you to the bathroom." I walked closely behind him didn't want to lose him like I did the rest.
"You could have at least taken me on a date first." I teased.
"You're getting pretty confident."
"I've always been confident. You just never noticed."
"We've reached out destination."
"Thanks. Can you wait I bit here? I'm not sure I can figure my way back to the pool area. This house is huge."
"Wasn't planning on leaving before. Now hurry up and get out of those clothes." he said pushing me towards the door.
I entered, turned the lock behind me and quickly got out of my clothes before folding them in a neat pile. I stared at my body a but in front of the mirror my white skin had a little tan the California sun was responsible for. With my clothes in my hands, I stepped outside.
"Where do I keep this." I held up my folded clothes and phone.
And Nick eyes surprisingly never once left mine. His eyes didn't roam down my body like most guys would. That made me like him a bit more 'cause I would have been uncomfortable had he checked me out openly.
"I'll take care of that." He collected them from me. "Now let's get you to the pool."
*******
"Hey you." Someone greeted loudly over the music.
Nick wasn't with me anymore. He went to go get us both something to drink. And I still haven't seen Cat and the rest. Nick said he was gonna find them on his way which was exactly why I was sat waiting for him. Kinda feels weird to be alone with bunch of strangers seeing Seb was like a breath of fresh air.
"Hi Sebastian. How do you do."
"Just a hi? Not even a hug? I thought we were friends."
I just laughed it off. I wasn't a hugger.
"Did you just arrive here?."
"No. I've been here for quite a while. Nice bikini."
"Thank you."
"So are you getting in the water or not."
"I was but then, there are too many people in there. Don't wanna be pushed to the bottom and drown." It wasn't totally true but not false either. The truth was I didn't wanna ruin the makeup I sat hours for.
"You won't drown. Come on." Before I knew it he took my hands and pulled me along.
"I think it's ris–." I couldn't complete my sentence before he jumped in pulling my hand along. With a heavy splash we hit the water I took my hands from his quickly to wipe the water from my face.
"You've ruined my hair." I shouted over the loud music.
"They look just fine to me."
I huffed in annoyance before swimming to the pool edge.
"Are you mad.?" His voice said behind me.
I climbed up the stairs leaving the pool.
"Come on we were just having some fun. I didn't know you were scared of the water." I turned to him at that. I didn't know he was so close that I almost rammed into him.
"I'm not scared of the water. I just didn't wanna ruin all this." I gestured to my head in general. "But that's too late already." I was about turning back when he caught my wrist.
"I'm sorry." He apologized. I searched his eyes and knew he was truly sorry. "Forgive me?." I nodded and he flashed me one of his popular smiles.
"Hold on a bit." He said before running his fingers gently under my eyes. "You have some stains here."
"Uhh I can do it." I tried pushing his arms off me gently but he wasn't bugging. He was too strong.
"Just stay still it's almost gone."
It felt uncomfortable to have him touch my face when I'd only met him twice but Seb looked like a nice lad and was easy to talk to I think I was beginning to like him which was why I let him wipe off the mascara running down my face. I knew I would still have to go to the bathroom to get it fixed properly.
"All gone." He smiled proudly.
"Thank you. Have you seen Dave anywhere?. "
"Last I saw him was when he entered a room with some blonde. Dude got a birthday present to unwrap."
"Birthday?."
"Yeah. That's why he threw this party."
"You mean it's his birthday?." I asked and Seb nodded.
"You didn't know that?." I shook my head.
"Catherine only said he was throwing a party. She didn't say it was his birthday. I would have gotten him a gift had I known."
"Good thing the dude is very easy to please. And no I don't mean that in a dirty way."
"I guess I need to find him to at least wish him."
"I'll get you a towel."
