When the sun rose from the skies and the birds started chirping from the trees, Kate left her house to go to market.
"Kate?"
Kate turned around and saw Jordan, the Beta's son and the future Beta of the Blue Stone pack.
"Hello, Jordan. Are you really going to talk to an omega like me? People are staring," Kate greeted and looked around her. Jordan was one of the few people that were nice to Kate since Kate is an omega.
"Don't mind them. I'm allowed to talk to whoever I want. Anyway, you're early today. Up to something?” Jordan asked and joined Kate while she made trips to the stores, buying groceries and necessities.
"Uhm, yes, I wanted to cook something and bring them to my parents," Kate sadly said. Her parents have both passed away, leaving her all alone. Kate's father was killed while fighting rogues, while her mother died due to illness.
"Oh… I'm sorry," Jordan said. "It's quite hot, right?" he added, changing the topic, which made Kath chuckle.
"Thank you, Jordan," Kate whispered. Jordan scratched the back of his head and smiled.
"Jordan." A voice said, which sent shivers down Kate's spine. It was Thorne, her mate. He was standing in front of them, arms crossed, and he looked furious.
"Thorne? Hey, man. What are you doing here?" Jordan said and walked towards him.
"What about you? What are you doing here with an omega?" Thorne lowly said, which made Kate bow her head while clutching the hem of her shirt.
"Thorne…" Jordan warned.
"What?!" Thorne snapped at him. Jordan stepped back, shielding Kate from Thorne and the looks of the people around them.
"What's the problem, Thorne?" Jordan calmly asked. He's the next Beta in line of the pack. He needed to be composed while dealing with Thorne and the pack. "You don't have to snap at me," he added.
"You're my Beta, Jordan. I'm allowed to," he said.
"And Kate's under this pack, Thorne. She's our packmate, and you're the next Alpha in line. She's under your protection," Jordan argued.
"Jordan...p-please," Kate said and slowly pulled Jordan's shirt. Kate doesn't want the attention they're getting, and she doesn't wish Thorne to hate her. Thorne glared at her and Jordan.
"I won't accept that omega in my pack," Thorne said and left. Kate felt her heart break to pieces at her mate's words. She wanted to cry and run away.
Jordan heaved a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose. He turned around and patted Kate's head.
"I'm sorry, Kate. Don't worry. I will talk to him. Thorne isn't like that at all. He's just pressured because of the succession," Jordan said. "Let's go?" he added and tried to smile.
"I'm o-okay, Jordan...I w-would like to go home," Kate stuttered. "I'm s-sorry," she added and ran away. Jordan wanted to follow her, but he didn't. Instead, he went to where Thorne was.
Jordan arrived at the packhouse and was greeted by a servant serving the current Alpha and his family. Jordan welcomed the helper back and went to Thorne's personal office.
"Thorne, let's talk," he said when he entered and sat on the couch.
"What? I'm busy," Thorne replied.
"You were rude back there," Jordan said and crossed his legs. "What's wrong? Do you have a problem? Is it work? You know you can entrust that to me because I'm going to be your Beta," he added.
"It's nothing, Jordan," Thorne firmly said.
"Man..."
"I told you, I'm fine," Thorne said. "I'm just a little bit on edge because Father is going back," he added. The current Alpha was in an official meeting for two weeks, and Thorne was left with all the pack matters.
"And? You're doing good, and we're doing good," Jordan said. For two weeks, Jordan and Thorne worked so hard for the pack's well-being.
"Yeah," Thorne replied nonchalantly.
"Kate's kind, Thorne, and she's been through worse. Try to be kind, will you?" Jordan said. "I'm going. All the work you have given to me was already done. See you later, man," he added and left the office.
Thorne slammed his fist on the table and cursed. He was pissed. When he saw Kate with Jordan earlier, his wolf reacted, and he couldn't control it. Thorne immediately saw red. He wanted to kill Jordan right there for touching what was his.
"Fvck this," he said. Thorne didn't know this would be the effect of the mate pull even if they weren't bonded and he hadn't marked her.
"I'm just using her for my needs," he said. "Yeah, it's just my wolf reacting. I don't like that omega one bit," Thorne whispered.
Kate closed the door and slumped on the floor. Her tears fell in her eyes like waterfalls. She was hurt. Kate knew she was not worthy of being Thorne's mate but hearing it from him hurt like hell.
Kate always blames the Moon Goddess for why she was like this. A wolfless omega. She wanted to have a normal life, she wanted to have friends, she wanted to be happy, but all she got was hurtful gazes and mean words from her packmates.
Kate stood and took their family picture. She hugged it in her chest and sobbed.
"Mom, Dad...I wish the two of you were still here," she whispered. "W-Why did you leave me alone?" she added.
Kate suddenly heard a sound coming from her bedroom. She slowly put the frame down and walked towards her room. Kate held the knob and turned it, pushing the door open. She gasped when she saw Thorne standing in front of her.
"T-Thorne?" she said.
Thorne looked at Kate and cursed when his wolf reacted to her sweet smell. He immediately pulled her close to him and kissed her senselessly.
"W-Wait...Thorne!" Kate said, but Thorne couldn't hear her. Kate pushed him, but he didn't let go until Kate kissed him back.
"I want you, my mate," Thorne whispered in Kate's ear. Kate bit her lips, tears about to fall from her eyes.
"Take me," she whispered back. What happened earlier instantly disappeared from her mind. What matters to Kate is that Thorne wants her. Her mate.
