Charles. It was a lie when I had told her that I had gotten those gift for someone else. When I had sighted my eyes on it, she was the only one that came to mind so I couldn’t help but get it. And it truly hurts my soul that she had to reject it that way. The least she could have done was take it from me and show her appreciation for it. “You have a meeting in twenty with Mr. Johnson.” Riley informed as she walked through the door. She is making her motive strong, that she really did came here to work, and not for anything else. “push it back.” I ordered. There have been some changes in the system, which she should have been notified by Sam, but I guess he filled her up on other things, not this. “Mr. Johnson has no business with us for now, so there is nothing left to be said. Instead, I want you to find a penthouse for me.” I added. Doesn’t this make me look weird as of my age? I am an adult, with a daughter that had started her own life and is looking forward to building a future with the man that she loved. Here I am instead, trying to fit between my feelings and what I want to get for my daughter. “that wasn’t in my job description. Maybe you should get a realtor to do that for you.” Her words came out soft, but harsh on the inside. This should be enough sign for me that I should only talk business with her, there is no use of going around the bush. “Miss Riley, sit down.” From the side of my eyes, I could see her rolling her eyes before taking a seat. “you see; I had hired you for a reason.” I started. This might end good or bad, but time would tell. “I had hired you because I thought we had something before but clearly, you want nothing to do with me.” I stopped, checking her face. “I had told that it was a mistake. I was caught in my feelings and I felt the urge to get back at those people, so I never took it to be something.” She blurted out. Riley would never fail to remind me of how that night meant nothing to her. “I get it, Riley.” “then my daughter needed help and you are the perfect person for that.” I said out. There was shock on her face, that I can decipher what it could be. Could she be shock because I have a daughter or that I said she is the perfect person for the help. “I want you to be a surrogate mother for my daughter and her husband.” I dropped. Riley’s facial expression changed immediately and she held her stomach, laughing hard that it began to make me wonder if I had made a joke with what I had just said. “Did I say something funny?” I asked her. “Because I am dead serious about this. I truly need your help on this and let’s say it is part of the reason why I had hired you.” I added. “then you can sack me, while you get yourself a role to play as a comedian.” Now, she has turned back to being serious. “the last thing that I ever do in my life is be a surrogate for your daughter. I don’t care of what this would make you think or how it would make you act, but the last thing you should ever do is ask me to be a surrogate for your daughter.” Riley rambled. I didn’t think that this wasn’t going to make her this furious. “I am willing to pay you, I will pay you whatever amount you ask for, just agree to be a surrogate for them.” I pleaded. My voice was beginning to show how desperate I am to get this. I am now talking as a father, wishing good for his daughter, not as a CEO. “that is the problem, all these rich people think that they can easily use money to get what they want.” she stopped, taking a deep breath. “but it doubts work that way. Despite how bad life is treating me; I would rather work my ass off to get paid monthly than do this. Do you even care to ask me if I was mentally stable to do this? Or did you decide that letting your selfish desires get ahead of you to think of what others are going through.” As much as I tried to open my mouth and tell her that I didn’t mean for this to go this way, I found it right to let her talk her mind. It was very much offensive of the way that I had offered her money, this is the second time that I am doing this even though I was the one that said money can’t be used to buy everyone. “the perfect person to be a help to you and your precious daughter isn’t me. If you could honor me actually, I would really much appreciate it if you fire me right now and have my name taken off the blacklist so that I can be free. I can pay you whatever you would feel like requesting for the compensation. Thank you.” I opened my mouth to call her back, to explain to her that it doesn’t have to end this way and I won’t even fire her, no matter what she says. She does need the money and so, she will work for it to get it. She doesn’t even have to do or be anything for me to pay her. I just have to be a d**k and mess up when I can show Zelia that with time, she can get what she wants, she just has to wait and don’t rush. Instead, here I am. A fool. “Shit.” I cursed under my breath before standing up. I should get things right before it becomes worst.
