"Mama...Mama! Jamie just made me wet"
Layla turns around and finds a little person looking up at her with an adorably furious looking face.
"Oh sweety, what happened?"
"She is just being mean because I beat her on the race."
"No you did not, you cheated!"
A little red head shouts from the door.
"No I did not!"
"Did too!"
"Hey hey...You don't have to fight. Jamie come over here sweety."
The little girl walks over while dragging her feet. Layla holds on to her last thread of patience with her daughter.
"Jamie say you're sorry to your brother."
"But mom, he started it."
"Who started what?"
Layla turns around when she hears that voice and smiles.
"Good morning baby."
"Good morning baby."
"Ewww...But You are not babies." Her baby boy Josh exclaims.
The two adults just laugh.
"I got to run baby, see you later"
Layla smiles as she watches him go. When she goes to sit down she notices that he had left a file for one of his patients so she runs after him calling him.
....
"Caleb...Caleb!"
"Oh madam Layla you are awake!"
A very familiar voice exclaims and Layla turns to the source of the voice.
"Mavis?" She frowns at her maid.
"What are you doing here?"
When all she gets is a look of surprise
Layla looks down at herself and wonders what she is doing wearing a gown, a hospital gown to be exact. Wasn't she just in her home with her husband and kids a moment ago?
"Visiting you of course." The woman is crying and that adds to her confusion.
"But..." She stops when she realises that she could be missing something. She tries to think back to not just this morning but yesterday too. And when the two memories hit her she almost jumps when she understands what just happened.
"Mavis! Oh Mavis you are here, I am here.!" She can't hide how happy she is. She finally woke up. She is finally free and not alone any more.
"It's so good to have you back Miss Layla." Her maid gives her a hug and she loves every moment of it. She is already beginning to realise the little nice things that she could have taken for granted before.
"Mavis was I talking in my sleep?" She asks looking embarrassed.
"Not exactly, you just woke up calling out for your doctor."
"My doctor?"
"Yes, doctor Caleb. Am not surprised though." The old woman smiles at her.
"And why is that?" Layla asks when she doesn't understand what Mavis means.
"He is the only person you have been responding to here for the past three months."
"What? The only person? And what do you mean for three months I just got here like two days ago."
The worry on Mavis's face let's her know that she is wrong and there is a lot she doesn't know. She looks around where she is and only finds bouquets of flowers everywhere. Some very fresh while others look like they have been here a while. She is afraid to know how much of her life she has missed.
"I will just get the doctor ok."
Layla just nods at Mavis. She is confused. How could it be three months already? Even her own mind is failing to wrap around that thought.
She looks up when the door to her room opens and her eyes fall on a white coat.
"Hello Miss Jones."
The speed with which she looks at the person who just greeted her surprises even her.
"Caleb?"
"That would be me." The man smiles but all Layla can do is stare at him with wide eyes.
"You..You..." She stammers and holds her tongue at the same time.
"How is this possible? Am awake right?" She looks at him.
"Yes you are."
"But..." she shakes her head in confusion.
"Calm down Miss Jones."
Just like before his voice gets her calm almost instantly and she stays looking at him. Wondering how he is able to do that.
"Now tell me what you do remember."
At this moment she is so confused. She doesn't know what part of what she remembers is true so she just stares at him.
"I don't know honestly. I thought I did but not anymore." She finally manages to bring out her confusion.
"That's understandable, looking at what you've gone through. It might be a little difficult to know what is real and what isn't. But don't worry and don't rush yourself. Just give it time okay?"
She just nods even though her mind seems to be overworking with all the questions running through it.
"How long have I been here?"
Of all the questions this one has been troubling her the most ever since Mavis mentioned it.
"Look..just relax and let me have a look at you first."
"When am done I will answer all your questions I promise" The man smiles at her and that smile just made her forget all the questions she had. And his voice....everytime he opens his mouth she connects to its soft tone. He is a slow talker but careful in his choice of words making her want to listen to everything he says.
He is perfect. Just as perfect as she remembers him. And her twins look so much like him too. Everything was picture perfect, the very life she has always wanted. It may have been just a dream but she is feeling so happy right now. It makes her feel like she just took a sneak peek into her future and she is in love with what she saw.
She watches him as he works unaware of everything going on with her. Her mind switching between what she now knows was her dreaming and the reality in front of her. She may have been in her sleep but she clearly remembers the man in front of her, the man who gave her the one thing she has always desired. Her husband and father to their twins. That picture is so vivid in her mind and the only thought she has is if it's possible to be that happy even for her.
"Do dreams come true?"
