Lana's POV "Mom," I said and I opened the door further, stepping out of the way so that she could enter. She moved closer to me and she took me into her embrace as stiff as my body was. I didn't return that same energy. She pulled away and then she cupped the sides of my face with both of her hands and she looked at me with sympathy. "I'm so sorry," she said softly. I closed my eyes, parting my lips and opening my eyes again. "Thanks," I whispered. She removed her hands from me and I closed the door.
