NOTHING LEFT TO SALVAGE- LEAVING NOTHING BEHIND
"Remember those three days I spent on a business trip for marketing and networking purposes… well I lied, there was no business trip, I spent those days in Silver Lake… at the palace. My father is ill and he has no one to succeed him… I know we agreed never to return there, but I had to go see him and… that's how I met Charlotte. Alpha Riven had a meeting with king Thorian and had invited his wife and daughters and I was attending on my father's behalf…. I immediately knew when she walked in that she was my mate. She followed me back here, I didn't know until eight days ago.. Adelaide, please believe me, I tried to ignore these urges, even when she was in heat and my wolf was going nuts…. But I could not deny the urge to mark her any longer, she makes my wolf go insane, she awakens the beast in me, she makes my wolf more ferocious and stronger than it has ever been. I can't explain it, but there is this irresistible pull that draws me to her, my wolf longs for her presence, to be close to her all the time…. My feelings for her are strong, but I still love you and I do not want to lose you, I do not want to end our marriage and I do not know how, but we can make this work, we can still be together… please hear me out, I was thinking that maybe you will become-"
"That's enough!" She hissed, cutting him off before he made the suggestion. A suggestion surely to leave a bitter taste in her mouth, exacerbate her anger, a suggestion she most definitely was not going to agree to. "I can't believe this… I just… no one has ever hurt me this much, no one Igan." She no longer had the will to be strong, she plopped down to the floor and cried silently as she processed what he had just told her.
She had always anticipated this day, she thought she had prepared herself for the ripping pain, but her heart sank when she heard the word mate. Igan was twenty eight, he had chosen her as his mate because he did not find his mate at eighteen like most wolves are expected to. She loved him so much she did not even think about finding her fated mate, he had promised her as well that he was not interested in finding his true mate, but that was all a lie.
Indeed they had reached a dooming point of no return, there was no way he was going to deny the mate bond and reject the princess even if she forgave him and wanted to give their marriage a second chance. He had already marked the Bloodborne princess, no wolf would accept her, let alone touch her since she bears his mark. She was bound to him forever.
Even if he miraculously, after marking his mate, Bovigan wanted to stay with her instead, he would have too much to lose.
The Silver Streaks had a law, that every wolf shall only be in union with their fated mate and no unmated wolves shall have right to claim high ranking positions in the pack. That meant that their marriage was invalid and if he wanted to takeover from his father, then he would have to marry the Pyth princess. He also had king Thorian to worry about. The Alpha king of the Bloodborne pack was infamous for many things, none of which are pleasant but he was most known for his overweening pride and arrogance, so without a doubt, if he rejected his daughter, he would declare war on the Silver Streaks and a lot of blood would be shed.
She was a fool for defying her father. This was life punishing her for disobeying her king. Now Bovigan was going mate with his fated mate, start a new life with her, have as many pups as they want while she will be left dejected, all alone and with an existential crisis.
"Where do I go from here?" That was the question that kept circulating in her mind. Igan was her life, has been her life since she was seventeen, without him, without this marriage she was going to have to start afresh and she did not even know where to begin.
"My father already knows that Charlotte's my mate and he has already arranged everything with king Thorian… I have already agreed to marry her and I will be marrying her in ten days-" upon hearing that, Adelaide yelped and her blubbering became uncontrollable. Igan crawled over to her and she resisted at first but eventually gave up and allowed him to embrace her.
"When were you going to tell me?" She articulated between yelps and sobs and struck his chest with her fists as he held her tightly. "Ten- f*****g days! Wow! Just ten f*****g days!"
"I wanted to tell you but I just couldn't, it was too hard for me. I have to marry her, I can't reject her, my wolf would die and I would be as good as incapacitated and useless… and… marrying into the Pyth bloodline is going to be very beneficial for my pack, for me, for us. My father is as good as on his death bed, I had to step-up and make some very hard decisions. I have to do what's best for my pack, Alpha Riven wants me to succeed him, so I am the future alpha of the Silver Streaks, not just the beta. I may be marrying Charlotte, but that does not mean I do not love you or will ever stop loving you. I know any union between us will never be recognized, but I want to take you as my second wife- my father will surely disagree and Charlotte won't be happy with sharing me, but I am determined to fight to be with you in any way possible."
That was all she needed to regain her strength and she shoved him to the ground. "Are you listening to yourself?! You want me to become your second wife, do you think I want to see you with another woman?! Do you think I want to share you with another woman?! You really do not care about me, no you really don't-" she accused as he tried to object. "You want to humiliate me in front of your family, in front of the Bloodborne royals and all the other packs in on this. You want me to bring more shame to my name than I already have by running away with you?! Just because I have accepted this low standard of living does not mean I have forgotten who I am. I am first princess Adelaide Amalyse Veildar, I am a Pure Blood, I am not going to lower myself to the lows of fighting for another woman's mate. I am such a fool! My father disowned me because of you- do you know how many times I wanted to go back home? To see my mother, to see my family but I didn't because I wanted to protect you and our marriage? You are extremely selfish Bovigan! We agreed to never go back, you promised me that you would never go back no matter what, you swore to me that you did not care at all about pack affairs, that you were not interested in your father's position, you promised me that you will stay here with me forever, but now you are telling me all this bullshit about having to do what's right for your pack blah! Blah! Blah! Do you know how much I have lost Bovigan?! I have nothing! This life, this marriage was all I had, what do you expect me to do? You know what- I hate you! I am never going to forgive you- NEVER!!"
"You don't mean that Adelaide." He worded sternly, a sudden cast of darkness benighting his eyes. "I made a vow to you, Adelaide and I will live by it until the day I die. I am never letting you go, you are mine now and forever. You will only be with me, no one else can have you. You will forgive me eventually, I know you love me. Talk to a lawyer, I don't care, I am not signing any divorce papers. I want you to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally, because in twelve days I will be introducing you as my second wife. I am going to marry you two days after the ceremonial binding with Charlotte."
Adelaide shook her head in disbelief, scoffing dryly. "You are delusional." To which he returned with a frown and narrowed, sinister eyes. She rarely saw this side of him and it never disappointed in frightening and unsettling her. Whenever she threatened to leave him, he always changed into something else, the animal in him would always be conveyed more strongly.
"You have seven days to think about it. We are leaving in a week and we will be staying at the South Fort ( Beta's residence) with Charlotte, her sisters and aunts who will be helping with the wedding arrangements. I will have to sleep in Charlotte's bedroom until the wedding, but I will make time for you during the day. " Sterness was etched on his features and his dark eyes were minacious as they gazed deeply into hers and he forcefully drew out her hand from where she had tucked it and placed the ring she had thrown at him in her open palm.
"Do not ever take it off again," his tone was threatening and his unblinking eyes never left hers, never once shifted even as he knelt in front of her, tucking the hair that had fallen to her face behind her ear then running his fingers along her jawline, "I am sorry, you know how much I hate seeing you cry. I cannot mark you, but no wolf or any other creature will ever touch you as long as I live. I love you, Adelaide, and I do not think you understand just how much. Not even the mate bond will destroy my love for you. I do not see a future where you are not mine, even if you find your mate, you will still be mine. Mark my words, baby; if you can't bear my mark, you will not bear any other. I was your first and will be your last. Charlotte is not going to change anything, I will continue to treat you like a queen, no one will ever love you as much as I love you, will ever treat you as well as I have, will ever touch you the way I can. Never forget that."
Adelaide remained muddled and thus did not react as his face inched in and he kissed her, conveyed so much desperation in the second- long kiss. As much as she wished this would be far from the case, she was going to miss his kisses, miss his touch.
"I love you." He uttered deeply yet in a low tone close to a whisper. He expected her to say it back like she always did, his eyes told her so, but she didn't. Instead she grimaced and narrowed her eyes at him, staring at him with resentment burning in her eyes.
Bovigan only sighed deeply at her defiance. She just needed time. She clearly had not grasped the seriousness of his intentions yet. She was understandably still hurt, too hurt to understand and accept that she did not have any other choice.
"Listen love, as much as I hate to leave you in this state, I must leave, Charlotte was not very happy when I left her. My wolf is also very upset that I am here.. it is affecting my mood. I will be spending the night with Charlotte but I will return before you leave for work to hand in your resignation. From now on I will be completely honest with you, so I will not hide this from you- I am ravenous and will be having lots of s*x with Charlotte tonight. She is in heat, my wolf can't resist her. I have to keep her happy, I cannot afford to get on her father's bad side. If I am unable to see you tomorrow, I will find a way to make it up to you."
He was disgusting right now. Not even a fragment of the man she fell in love with remained. "Leave with your Charlotte and never come back. I never ever want to see you again, you disgust me Bovigan!" She sneered and he clenched his jaw. A flash of anger crossing his eyes before his temper quickly changed to calm and stolid.
"You know you do not mean that. See you tomorrow, love, get some rest." He pressed his lips on her forehead and rose to his feet, then put on his jacket, growling and mumbling under his breath as he walked away.
She knew he was communicating with his wolf, but just like her mother, she was wolfless. She had never been made to perceive this as a weakness, in fact her mother always told her that her spirit wolf will come to her once she has found her mate or once her powers have been unleashed. So far none of the above had happened or seemed to be a possibility.
Wiping away her tears, Adelaide languidly removed herself from the floor and tossed the ring to the couch. She was still shook up, she still could not believe that this was happening to her, but in a greater sense she felt numb as she climbed up the stairs and made her way to their bedroom.
She ignored the other objects in the room which were calling for her attention, like the burgundy lingerie set she had left on the bed after she had chosen a white lace set thinking Igan was going to rip it off her body later at the hotel.
She immediately headed for the walk in closet and opened the door without a plan in mind. She took out all of her suitcases, spread them on the bed and gazed at them deeply, pensive.
There was nothing left for her here anymore and she did not want to see Bovigan with another woman, that would just kill her inside and leave her irrevocably ruined- so there was only one sensible thing she could do:
Go back home and hope her father will forgive her and has forgotten all about her betrothal to the prince of Lycans.
