Porter was trying to get back to his old self – his despicable-to-Janine self – after being able to be that close to her. He was trying to shake the feeling off because he shouldn’t feel it. He shouldn’t be moved by mere closeness. Heck, he shouldn’t be wavered.
He told her that he would wait for her outside because he just couldn’t bring himself to get back to proper breathing, proper heart beating and proper complexion.
How could Janine Kwon, the girl that he pisses off every day, be the reason for this feeling?
“No, Porter.” He muttered to himself. “It’s just because you haven’t been that close to a girl for long that your heart skipped a beat like that.” He shut his eyes and tried to convince himself.
Porter is not the type to party unlike his friends. Well, one, he is not interested and two, he doesn’t like loud places.
Porter’s a downright dork and he knows that to himself. He’s a dork for sleep and for books.
And now, for pissing Janine off.
He shook his head as he took a deep breath to calm his creeps down. He had to know that this is nothing. There’s nothing to feel for anyone. Especially not for a girl.
He went inside his car, a Ford F-450, and waited for Janine to come. He left her as she was fixing her things so she must probably be on her way to the parking lot now.
And there she was.
Porter honked at her and she walked to his truck with narrowed eyes and a frown. He just smirked at his expression. The mere fact that he sees Janine unaffected by the closeness they had a while back made him get back to his senses.
At least she doesn’t think about it as awkward.
Janine got inside his truck and fastened her seatbelt. “It’s good that it’s weekend tomorrow.” She muttered to herself but L caught her words.
Porter looked at her and smirked. “Two days without seeing your face.” He beamed and Janine glared at him.
“Yes. Two days without your arrogance that I wish would last forever,” she spat and Porter scoffed at her.
“Ms. Kwon, you should consider yourself lucky,” he beamed at her.
Janine raised her brow at him as if Porter’s telling her the biggest joke of the century. “Me? Lucky?!” She asked in disbelief as she gave Porter a pointed look.
Porter smirked. “You should be happy because you’re the only girl I talk to in the office.” He beamed as he turned to the curb.
Janine laughed her heart out upon hearing what L said. He looked at her in disbelief. How can she laugh at him like that?
“How is that being lucky?” She asked while stifling a laugh. “I’m like being cursed or something!” She beamed and Porter scowled at her. “When a man as handsome as me talks to one girl alone, that girl should be lucky that I even wasted my saliva talking to her.” He beamed.
Janine looked at him and shook her head. “You are so full of yourself, Mr. Kim.” She beamed. “Not all women look at a man’s appearance.”
Porter gave her a look. So what does she mean? His handsomeness will not work on her? Good. Because he doesn’t plan to work his handsomeness on her.
“Tss. At least you’re not like other girls.” He told her.
Janine looked at him. “No two women are alike.” She beamed and Porter smiled weakly. “You think so?” He asked.
Janine narrowed her eyes on Porter. “Yes.” She replied.
Porter chuckled. “Assumptions can or cannot be true.” He beamed and he sped off to the shopping mall.
--
Janine and Porter went inside the camping section in the department store. Of course, they are bickering with every move.
Janine would say that it’s too expensive but Porter would insist on buying it instead because he badly wants to eat.
“This is why a guy should never go to shopping with a girl.” He mumbled under his breath but Janine caught it and glared at him.
“That’s why I told you to go with your secretary instead.” She snapped as she looked at the tent design showed at the packaging of the tent.
Porter scowled at her as he took one box and read about that tent. What a very wrong decision! He asked her to come with him because he wanted to piss her off but why is it happening the other way around?
Maybe his hungry stomach is the main reason why he couldn’t concentrate on pissing her off today.
“This is good.” He heard Janine say about the tent she was reading. “It’s big and it is thick, so, we won’t need a heater anymore.” She beamed at Porter as she handed him the packaging.
Porter took it and read it. And there he knew it. He knew why Janine has been promoted to the manager position within two years of working. She doesn’t make hasty and risky decisions without analyzing it.
“Okay. We’ll take four of this.” He said as he placed that one bag in their cart and got three more. “There. Done.” He smiled to himself.
Janine rolled her eyes and just shook her head at his reaction as she moved on to the sleeping bags section.
Porter followed suit.
There were a lot of different kinds of sleeping bags in there and Janine must have been overwhelmed with all the sleeping bags in her face that she even took a step back.
Porter saw that and chuckled to himself, for an unknown reason.
“What do you need, Ma’am?” He heard one of the male customer assistants ask Janine.
Janine looked at the man and asked something about the sleeping bags. Porter thought so, because she was pointing at the pile of the sleeping bags and the customer assistant started advertising.
Porter scoffed as he saw the man trying to act handsome and all-knowing in front of Janine. Oh yes, L knows when a man is trying to catch a girl’s attention. He’s seen Hunter and Serge do that whenever he’s with the two.
And right now, he’s 100% sure that this guy is trying to catch Janine’s attention.
“Naïve girl.” He muttered to himself, shaking his head, before walking to where Janine is.
Janine looked at him and handed him the sleeping bag the man was advertising her. “It’s good and durable. What do you think?” She asked him.
Porter glanced at the male employee, seeing to it that he gets his signal, before looking at Janine who’s so into the sleeping bags. “That’s good.” He replied at her.
“Good.” Janine sighed. “Then now, we can get twenty-three of this and go home.” She beamed.
She then faced the male CS and asked him to bring her twenty-three of the sleeping bags. Then she paused and gave Porter a look. “Wait,” she beamed. “How are you going to carry all of this?” She asked him.
Porter rolled his eyes. “That’s why I used my pickup truck, right?” He asked sarcastically.
Janine rolled her eyes and mumbled a string of curses under her breath as she turned to look at other items in the store.
Porter glared at her as the male CS came back with another cart full of sleeping bags.
“Here’s what you asked for, Ma’am.” The employee said with matching smile that would go all over his ears.
Porter rolled his eyes at the male employee as Janine gladly smiled and pushed the cart. He scoffed at Janine and shook his head as he went to her.
“Let’s exchange.” He told her.
Janine blinked at him. “Why?” She asked.
Porter rolled his eyes and pressed his lips into a firm line. “That’s too much for you to push around. Mine’s lighter.” He beamed.
Janine raised her brow at him and smirked. “I guess you’re not bad at all.” She muttered as she pushed the cart Porter exchanged with her and went to the counter to buy for all those stuffs.
Since it was for their Team Building, they are going to use the money that the company allotted for them. The Lee Group had this covered, since it was for work.
Janine and Porter went to place all the camping things to Porter’s truck.
Porter sighed in relied. “Finally, my stomach won’t growl anymore.” He beamed.
Janine looked at him. “You were hungry? Why didn’t you eat?” She asked.
Porter glared at her. “How do you expect me to eat when we’re buying the things we need for the team building?” He asked back.
Janine rolled her eyes. “Then you could’ve left me. I can buy on my own.” She beamed.
Porter scoffed. “Yeah, the male employee was flirting with you and you were clueless about it.” He muttered under his breath but Janine heard it and scoffed back.
“He is not.” She denied.
Porter let out a sarcastic laugh. “Yes, he is. You were just not paying attention to his actions.” He insisted.
Janine rolled her eyes and shook her head as she placed the last box of the tent. “Whatever.” She beamed at him and left L in the parking lot.
“Hey!” L shouted at her but she didn’t stop. “Hey, Janine Kwon!” He beamed as he covered and locked the pickup truck before running after her.
He caught up with her before she could even enter the mall again. He grabbed her wrist.
“What are you doing?!” Janine snapped at him in shock.
“Where the hell are you going?” He asked in frustration.
“Home!” Janine replied in a loud voice, too.
“How?!” He beamed again. “There are no buses at this hour, Janine Kwon.” He told her.
Janine yanked her wrist from him. “Then I’ll ride a cab.” She replied as she turned to leave him again.
“It’s dangerous!” Porter exasperated.
Janine stopped and gave L a weird look. “I’ve lived my life away from my family since college, Porter Kim. I can handle myself.” She beamed before entering the mall, leaving Porter speechless.
Porter shut his eyes forcefully and blew his bangs in defeat. “Damn it!” He beamed as he got back to his truck. “Why did I even care anyway?” He asked himself and sped off.
--
“Why are you home this late?” Serge asked Porter as he grumpily shut the door.
Serge was taken aback as he heard the door bang close. He stared at L as he strutted his way to the kitchen and heated the first food he saw in the fridge.
“Damn it.” L beamed as he sat beside Serge while eating the food he just heated.
Serge blinked at his best friend, who’s definitely not in a good mood. “What happened?” He asked him.
Porter let out an exasperated sigh and rolled his eyes.
“Why are you eating that food like it’s your enemy?” Serge continued to bombard Porter questions but he’s just not answering any. He was just sighing and rolling his eyes.
“Are you possessed?” Serge asked again and Porter just glared at him.
Serge blinked at him. What bad thing had happened that L is acting like everyone is his enemy? It’s so weird since Serge knows that Porter wasn’t the kind of person who would give a damn on others and would get pissed like this.
“I can’t believe I even thought of eating with her!” L hollered in frustration with his mouth full.
Serge’s eyes widened. “Who’s her?” He asked.
Porter glared at him. “She’s really dead when I see her in the office on Monday. Really dead.” He muttered as he gripped tightly on the spoon.
“She’ll really see who the spawn of the devil is when we meet on Monday.” Porter repeated and glared at the television.
Serge looked at him and smiled. His best friend is growing up.
