Chapter 3 Betrayal

Autumn "I'm utterly bewildered by the discourse here!" They forcibly brought me to the meeting floor, where chaos ensued until the Alpha's stern gaze silenced everyone. I gazed at him, shaking my head. "I- I could never-" "I sense your curiosity about the situation," Andrew interjected, halting my speech as I glanced around, struggling to catch my breath. "What exactly is happening here?" "Has Luna committed some grave misdeed following last night's events?" Jonathan and Zarius trailed behind Andrew, their lack of acknowledgment leaving me disheartened. I had hoped for their support, but their diverted gazes, fixated on the crowd as though bracing for retribution, dashed those expectations. "Autumn is responsible for the miscarriage of Maya's child," he declared, his voice laced with fury, igniting a flurry of whispers among the crowd. "Her actions are undeniably... the most egregious transgression within our pack," he continued, his eyes ablaze with indignation. "You have no authority to level baseless accusations against me!" I exclaimed, rising defiantly. "I could never betray my best friend, even in the face of her wrong doing towards me!" "Wrong?" He scoffed. "It's common knowledge that you're unable to conceive, and it infuriates you that I'm upholding our family's legacy. I must wed a woman capable of bearing my offspring, one who will fortify our pack, and you simply don't fit that mold," he explained, his smile vanishing. His eyes darkened to a fiery red, and the crowd's gaze shifted to me, brimming with disappointment and disdain. I swallowed hard, the ache in my heart echoing the anguish of my wolf, yet I summoned my resolve. "You can label me however you please, but I refuse to be characterized as someone who would hurt someone who once held dear to my heart-" "Convince your people that you're nothing but a jealous Luna, incapable of providing for them," he spat, advancing toward me with fury in his eyes, but I couldn't comply. I couldn't. Shaking my head, I stammered, "N- no." Maya entered the meeting room, and my heart raced with anticipation. "Maya!" I called out, my voice filled with desperation. "You know I didn't do what they're accusing me of-" "Enough!" she snapped, tears cascading down her cheeks. "Stop with the pity party, Luna! I didn't choose this. It's not my fault I'm something you're not." "How could you do this to me..." she cried out, her hand trembling as she touched her stomach, her voice fractured with pain. "I've lost something so dear to me..." She murmured- shaking my head in disbelief as she uttered those words, unable to comprehend the reality of the situation. "No, I didn't..." I cried out, my voice cracking with denial and anguish. "Indeed, you did," she affirmed, her jaw tensing as tears continued to stream down her face unabated. "I find it incredulous that Luna resorted to such actions solely due to her inability to conceive a child!" "Well, one could argue that she brought this upon herself. However, the extent of this retaliation seems disproportionate." "I highly doubt that Autumn would stoop to such levels. She has always been known for her moral integrity." Many individuals persist in murmuring such insinuations, leaving me trembling and tearful with indignation over the prevailing circumstances. I gaze at Andrew once more. "What course of action do you intend to take against me? Will you seek punishment for what you perceive as slander?" "I shall exact punishment upon you for depriving me of my happiness! Are you truly so insecure, hmm?" He seized my head with force, prompting me to resist, while Jonathan rushed towards him and intervened, halting his actions. "Alpha..." "I will administer punishment upon you with greater severity than you can fathom the agony!" He bellowed directly into my face, causing me to flinch and weep silently. People are observing keenly, passing judgment, while Maya weeps. "Ugh, it's unfathomable that she's shedding tears after betraying her closest friend. I am convinced Luna is innocent." "I know someone who can attest to what she did to me!" Maya shouted, drawing attention and sparking whispers among the onlookers. Andrew approached her, briefly clasping her hand in a gesture of reassurance that shattered my heart. "I know someone who witnessed Autumn handing me a cup of hot tea, and after that... I began experiencing abdominal pain, leading to a miscarriage... Oh God, I can't bear to say it-" Maya broke down in tears again, and Andrew comforted her. Her deceitful words filled me with bitter laughter. "You truly are a deceiver," I scoffed angrily. "You used to do this for amusement, but it wasn't just a game, apparently," I added. "Then, bring forth the witness-" "I did." My smile vanished, and everything about me faded when I laid eyes on her. Lily, who had just appeared. "Holy s**t, now I can confirm the accusations are indeed true." My heart races faster than ever before. This heartbeat is unlike any other, different from yesterday. I struggle to believe what I'm witnessing. Is this reality? Or perhaps a dream? "Lily...?" I whispered, shaking my head in disbelief. "What are you doing?" I asked with a hopeful smile, hoping it was all just a prank and she'd soon reveal it was a joke aimed at Maya. "Autumn is the one who instructed me to lace Maya's drink with drugs before serving it..." Lily began, her voice trembling with nervousness. "I tried to resist her, but I was afraid because she was the only one who seemed to show me any respect here, and she threatened me. But I can't lie about what she's done," she declared confidently, pointing directly at me. She pointed at me as if I were a stranger. Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably as I looked at her, unable to comprehend the betrayal. "How could you do this to me?" I silently pleaded with my eyes, but she didn't notice. "I cannot believe this..." I whispered, my voice cracking as I broke down. I attempted to walk away, but a man grabbed hold of me. "Where are you going?" he inquired. "Out of this pack, to shed the identity of Luna, the accused. I don't need to hear anymore," I declared loudly, turning my back and beginning to cry silently.
