Autumn
"What the hell..." I kept repeating, tears flowing uncontrollably as if they would never cease.
My wolf's heart remained steady, but I felt utterly overwhelmed.
"Is this real?" I questioned, gazing at Maya and Andrew. "No. It can't be. But it is. How could you both do this to me?" I cried out, my voice raw with anguish, heedless of the perceptions of others around me.
I could see Maya feigning innocence with those eyes of hers.
"Tell me!" I demanded, my voice trembling with rage as I confronted them both, the murmurs of the crowd fading into the background.
Maya looked down, seemingly at a loss for words.
"Andrew..." I murmured, my gaze fixed on him. "Why?" I softened my tone, hoping for a swift acknowledgment from him.
"Yes," he replied. Maya glanced at him with a newfound confidence, intensifying the shock among the onlookers.
The Beta and Gamma appeared stunned, attempting to intervene, but I signaled for them to stand back.
"W-Why-" I began, only to be cut off by Maya.
"This is just a misunderstanding Autumn!" Maya interjected, clutching her chest defensively. "You know I could never do this to you, and you just have to calm down right now..." Her words trailed off, sounding so low and looking broken.
I shook my head in disbelief, unable to comprehend what I had just heard, and I didn't find those words convincing. "You're my best friend!" I cried out, overcome with a sense of betrayal as tears continued to stream down my face.
She bit her lower lip, and her words halted as I moved to slap her for trying to gaslight me, but Andrew firmly grasped my hand.
"Stop it, Autumn," he urged, his voice gentle. I shook my head vehemently.
"I don't care what others think of me right now!" I shouted, attempting to push him away, the onlookers now standing and fixated on our exchange. But Andrew held me back.
"Autumn, don't," he commanded, his tone firm. "If you want to hurt someone, hurt me. Don't hurt her," he pleaded, his voice laced with concern, breaking my heart even further.
"And you have the nerve to say that-"
"She's pregnant, and she needs to be looked after!" he exclaimed. "I don't care what anyone else thinks right now," he added, running his fingers through his hair in frustration.
He drew closer to me. "Please, don't. If you love me, then let us," he whispered. "I'm tired of you being unable to give me a child. That's all I've ever wanted, and you've never made me happy." His touch on my hand felt like a facade for the onlookers.
"Oh God, poor Luna."
"I don't know what to say... maybe she was never good enough."
I pushed him away and turned to face them both. Andrew's hands remained in his pockets, his green eyes locking onto mine with a warning, his expression devoid of emotion. Maya clutched her stomach as if afraid.
I can't believe everything he said to me. I thought he loved me. I thought Maya was my best friend, and it seemed like no one was on my side.
I shook my head and fled from them all, the smirks and whispers of mockery from the crowd echoing in my ears.
Reaching my quarters, I collapsed onto my bed and wept uncontrollably. I cried until my chest ached, not caring if I couldn't catch my breath. With my eyes squeezed shut, I curled into a ball, burying my face in my knees.
One thing is certain: I'm utterly lost. My body trembles, my heart races. Is this what betrayal feels like?
"Luna..." someone whispered as I slowly opened my eyes, gazing at the doorway.
It was Lily.
"Lily..." I called out, wiping away my tears as she quickly approached, sitting beside me on the bed. Her brown eyes softened into pools of empathy as she looked at me.
I rested my head on her arm, finding solace in her presence. "I'm sorry they treated you like that..." Her voice quivered with emotion, reflecting the pain in her eyes.
"What did I do to deserve this..." I cried out, feeling utterly lost, but Lily gently turned my face to hers.
"You did nothing wrong. They are the ones who wronged you," she reassured me, tucking my hair behind my ear and tenderly cupping my cheeks with her warm hands.
"Lily, have I truly done nothing wrong?" I asked, my voice strained with emotion. "If I haven't, then why did my supposed best friend, who used to support me, and my husband, who vowed to protect me, betray me?"
She swallowed hard, tears welling up in her eyes. "I feel your pain, Luna Autumn. Every tear you shed, I shed too," she murmured. "I felt shattered by their betrayal, but you know what? It wasn't your fault. It wasn't your fault that Andrew doesn't see you as he should."
"You weren't put on this earth to fulfill his or anyone else's expectations. You're here to fight for yourself. You don't need those people in your life," she whispered, moistening her dry lips. "She wasn't truly your best friend, and he wasn't the protective husband you deserved. That's why they hurt you." Her words seemed to steady my racing heart, bringing a sense of calm to the storm within me.
She tenderly touched my hand, wiping away my tears. "Oh, how I despise those people," she muttered, pulling me into a comforting hug. I squeezed her tightly, finding solace in her embrace, my eyes closed as she patted my back.
As we parted, I looked into her eyes. My tears had ceased, and a sense of calm washed over me. "You're right... I don't need to constantly strive to satisfy everyone. That's not who I am," I whispered, moistening my lips and biting back the tears. Her eyes gleamed with pride as she nodded in agreement.
"He wasn't the husband I deserved, and I can't bear to stay with him any longer," I said to my wolf when Lily left. "I'm prepared to relinquish my title and leave this pack." I secretly made up my mind, but soon I fell asleep as I was too tired.
NEXT MORNING
"What the hell is going on!?" I yelled, taken aback by the broken state of my room and the presence of guards as I just woke up.
"Get out of this room!" I commanded, but they remained unmoved. Suddenly, Andrew burst in, his face contorted with anger.
"You're the most disgusting person I've ever met, Autumn..." He seethed, pinning me against the wall, and causing me to groan in pain.
"What the hell are you doing!?" I protested.
"You're the reason Maya lost our baby!" he accused, his accusation leaving me wide-eyed in shock.
"How could you be so jealous!?" he sneered. "I could never love a woman like you!" he snapped.
"W- What? What makes you think I would do something like that? Even after her betrayal, I couldn't-"
"You cannot fool me anymore Autumn!" Those guards tied my hand with a chain.
