Chapter Twenty
Communication is vital.
Fate Pierce’s Point of View
“We needed some communication in this house.”
Their eyes followed mine with shades of confusion. Hearing that the royal family would be visiting us, my grandmother was busy baking to greet them whilst my granpapi was mindlessly following her order. To have me walk to them and sputter such words would ultimately cause the confusion.
Both were not aware that they had managed to agree to the entrance of the King in their own home. Not only will the Alpha King finally be mindful that my grandparents were werewolves, but there could be some impending issues with the lies that I have built for myself.
“Now,” I said, grabbing a seat to look at them. “This is very important, but I needed you both to know one vital lie that I have told people.”
Granpapi frowned. “Lying is bad, darling.”
“We’re lying to the King itself about my identity here, Granpapi.” I frowned.
He chuckled like he was caught into something. Werewolves are compelled with the authority of their King, and the need to keep them served is a natural thing for werewolves. For years, the power of the King had always been absolute to all beasts in the realm. I was unsure if my grandparents could continue the lie with them here.
Granny chuckled, patting my head. “We understand the importance of your lies, darling. Continued and telling us what you wanted us.”
“Okay.” I avert my eyes away from them, offering a wry smile. “I have a boyfriend at home, and if anyone asks about him, I needed both of you to know that I kind of….” I trailed, really unsure of what to say. “Described my brother, Kun.”
Granpapi did not seemed to understand where I am coming from. He continued on making the shapes that his wife intructed him to do. “How can being in a relationship affect your identity as a human?”
“And he’s a human,” I added, disregarding my grandfather’s question. My eyes switched to both of them, catching their perplexed expression. “Please, please remember these details. It is very crucial for you both to know that. Tell that I love him, and I will die if we broke up or something.”
Granny paused from what he was doing, now looking at me dead in the eyes. I think he caught just how serious my words were. “Did you get yourself in trouble?”
“Please,” I said, exasperated. My eyes waited as both of them acknowledge my words, and soon as they did, my lips pulled a smile. “Good, because the Alpha King is also coming to visit.”
My lips bubbled a small laugh as my Granpapi broke the cookie in half. Even my Granny didn’t reprimand him for it. She had walked out of the kitchen and bombed all of the things that were “unnecessary” to her view. For the passing time, I had sat on the couch as the two werewolves continued to polish the house. It looked like a brand new place.
And that’s highly concerning.
“Do we need to buy another house?” I asked, batting my eyes at my grandparents.
My granny only sighed, shaking her head. “Do not sass me, young child. It’s not too late to forget about your lies.”
“Granny, that's not nice!” I whined, frowning at her words.
Just as she was about to say something, her nose twitches about the surrounding. My ear could hear the sound of the tire hitting the ground. I lost my smile when the scent of the car seemed keen as my skill continued to improve by the day. Like always, my grandparents acted that they were composing themselves to me.
Knowing that people were watching us, they both acted surprised when the doorbell had rung. As a past Beta of the pack, my grandfather had walked into the door and greeted the person outside.
Five.
Their parents didn’t come, which could mean that his current workload would probably be passed on to the King father. Only the siblings had come, but that did not mend with my anxiety as my fox had been deprived of her mate. This will be nothing but annoying to my side.
“You have a lovely home.”
I managed to hide my hand, gripping the sheets tight as I had heard his voice. Soon enough, they entered the home with such little entrance and saw me in the living room with a fake cast on my legs. The three little Princes run in my direction with similar frowns on their faces. I know that my fox eyes could catch the worry from their aura if it was present.
“Fate,” Matthew muttered as he looked at my cast, cringing softly. His hands were cautious to even touch it, as if it would damage it further. “Are you okay? That seems like it hurts.”
I let out a small smile. “I’m fine. I just had a small accident, and this was needed to make sure that I suffered no real damage. That’s all. I can even walk well.”
“Then why did you miss your classes?” A rough voice, making me look at the owner of it. I was honestly stunned when I saw him holding a bouquet of daisies. A kind smile appeared on his face as he offered it to me. “Daisies. I hope you get well soon.”
It’s a flower that means that I should get well soon.
I didn’t know he can be quite a romantic.
There was a faint and subtle blush that had escaped on Clayton’s cheeks as I accepted it with a smile, catching the sight of my grandparents and excusing himself to talk to them. Worried, my eyes had followed them as they walked through my grandfather’s office.
I hope he doesn’t catch any lies…
...they better keep their heads up and keep it going!
If he realized that I do not have someone in my life, I’d be f*****g doomed.
“You talk as if you’re someone who is not well off, but you have the largest house in this place.” Somi smiled, making me catch her glance as she seemed sad. “I was distraught about your absents. You should have called when you missed your class.”
Feeling quite bad, I frowned. “I’m sorry, I do not want to worry you.”
“Not seeing you in school when you never missed attendance is already enough to make me worry, Fate.” She all but sighed, pulling me close. “You miss a lot of things!”
“And we found another book!” Matthew announced.
Maxwell bob his head. “And guess what! I finally made it to the Crystal League!”
“I’m also trying guitar since you recommended it.” Maverick grinned.
I cringed, pointing to my leg. “And I have a cast. At least someone else is having such a good life,” slowly patting Matthew’s head, I grinned. “But I am glad that you’re all doing so well! It must have been so exciting!”
“But Clayton is anxious,” Matthew whispered, taking a seat next to me. I was tempted to see his aura, but even I could read his expression just by the way he looked. “I saw him last night, and when he heard that there would be some problem with the forest, he was so worried that all our guards went missing!”
Maxwell chuckled, grabbing his brother as he whispered something so discreet. Not a human would have caught it, but I am not a human. It seemed like Matthew realized what he had said and grinned.
“He’s just worried about you.” He added.
I smiled, slowly averting my head away from him. “Your older brother is a good friend.”
“I’m still stuck with that?”
My body jumped, holding my chest as I was surprised by his voice. The look on my grandparents’ faces had already made me realize that they plan on talking to me as soon as this party ends.
Despite my worries about that issue, I found myself answering the man. “You’ve become one of my great friends. After all, nobody else would have visited me.”
“See?” Somi chuckled, biting her stifles. “I told you she appreciates you too, Clayton. As her good and dependable friend.”
The small glimmer in his lips made me worried, and not only did my grandparents seem to have a look away from me… but they seemed guilty. I fear for the worse with the happy smile printed into the man’s face.
