Chapter Six: Fatherly Advice

1802 Words
Sawyer I rubbed my tired eyes as I tried to concentrate on the paper in front of me, feeling my irritation and anger grow every f*cking second. The small, stupid words were bouncing, changing, laughing at me and I felt like a total moron. A knock on my office door snapped me back into reality as my father appeared in the doorway. “Hello son,” he said as he stepped inside his old office that now belonged to me and made his way towards the desk I was seated at. His dark blond hair was intertwined with a few silver strands revealing the years he had lived as the vivid dark blue eyes were shinning with love and affection while looking at me. His firm muscular body moved with elegance and determination, showing his still enormously strong Alpha dominance, even if he was not officially one anymore. He still screamed power and respect with every move he made. Standing tall and proud, he was a man I looked up to, knowing I could always rely on him. “Hey dad,” I beamed as he sat on the chair opposite me and gave me his warm, comforting smile. “I heard what happened, Jonah caught me up with everything.” He announced and I nodded my head, of course nothing slipped pass by my father. He was still very much involved with pack matters, helping me from time to time, advising and leading me when I needed. I was entirely grateful. “You look tired Sawyer, are you alright?” he asked, his dark blue eyes matching my own were looking concerned. “It´s such a mess, dad.” I sighed heavily as I confessed to him. I knew he could read me like a book, so I didn´t want to hide anything, “I don´t know what to do, where to look…” “Everything will be alright. You are doing the best you can, son. I believe in you.” He reassured me and I felt better knowing he had my back. “Why didn´t you tell me about Lucas?” I wondered. “About him being a hybrid?” he asked, surprised, and I nodded. “I guess I didn´t consider it important at the time, I mean he is just a pup after all.” He explained and I understood, nobody could have known this would happen. I sighed, tired looking at him, as he was already watching me carefully with his knowing eyes. “I truly hope the visit to the coven will help. The Oracle seems to have prediction that could be of use to us,” I explained, still not really believing in such things. I was a pragmatic person, but I would welcome any help at this point. “So, I´ve heard,” he nodded his head, “What do you think about it?” he asked curiously and c****d his head to the side, watching me intensely. “I am not sure to be honest, but I don´t want to be the Alpha blinded or influenced by prejudice. Alpha should be strong and independent, but not afraid to accept help. If it will help to find Lucas and stop the rogues, I will go there even with a smile on my face,” I concluded, seeing as my dad was nodding his head in appreciation and smiling at me. “Spoken as a great Alpha,” he said, his dark blue eyes that I inherited shone with pride, it calmed my heart and made me happy. “What coven is that again?” “The Raising Sun Coven,” I stated stoically, but then I saw something flicker inside his eyes like some sort of recognition and for a moment a sorrowful expression passed his face. I was gone as fast as light. “Do you know them?” I asked, intrigued, shifting slightly forward as if I was expecting to hear some dark looming secret. “I do,” he admitted slowly, like he was measuring every word, his eyes hard and guarded, “I met their leader Georgiana. a few times over the years, I was an Alpha.” I had a feeling there was more to it than just meetings, but I didn´t want to push. If he wanted, he would have told me. I was not the type to pry on and he wouldn´t tell me anyway if I pushed. “Is she trustworthy?” I was interested to know his opinion as I held it in high regard. “Yes, but she is also a powerful and skilled witch. Don´t be fooled by her appearance,” he warned me, smiling knowingly. “Never underestimate your opponent,” I recited his advice that he gave me so many times, seeing him nod his head with a small smile. “Alright, thank you for your advice. I appreciate it,” I sighed weary, as I glanced back to the paper still spread in front of me. My biggest nightmare awaited as my eyes went over the words. My father was watching me intently, knowing about my eternal battle. “Don´t overwork yourself Sawyer,” dad said, looking at me with worry as my eyes flew over the changing letters. His hand came to rest over mine as he took the papers away from my hand that I didn´t realise was trembling slightly. I was just so tired, frustrated and guilty. “Son?” he squeezed my hand in a reassuring gesture as he used to do when I was pup, making me look up to him, “I´m very proud of the man you have become Sawyer. Never forget that. I´m here for you whenever you need me.” I signed heavily, “I just feel like it is not enough dad, I am falling back into a dark hole…” “What was it that I always tell you?” he asked, raising his eyebrows with a stern look in his face. “I was born to be real, not perfect,” I answered, remembering the times my dad told me this and he smiled, nodding. “Exactly, nobody is perfect Sawyer. We are all real people that face real challenges, deal with real struggles and live a real life.” His dark blue eyes grew even darker, almost challenging me to oppose him. When I didn´t, he continued to lecture, “You fought the battle and you won Sawyer. You challenged your demons and you came as a victor. Never forget how strong and resilient you are, my boy.” I acknowledged his stance with a smile, “Thanks dad,” “I just wish you had your mate to help and support you in this difficult time, son,” he said, suddenly leaning back on the chair. “I know dad, but I believe the Moon Goddess has a plan for me and when it is my time, I will meet her.” I spoke not really believing what I said, but I just didn´t want to trouble him. After my words came out, I heard Soren barking sarcastically. ´Zip it! ´ I snapped at him. “Well, I am glad. I hope when you meet her, she will be everything you desire and more,” He said, sounding sincere, looking at me with love and kindness only a parent has for a child. “I do hope, too, she will be a Luna after all that requires some basic qualities,” I told him, seeing how his eyebrows perked up, “Oh, really? Do tell which ones,” he pried with a small lop-sided smile. “Nothing unusual really, she should be a strong she-wolf, able to protect herself and pack, kind and honest, fun to be around, loyal and caring...” I trailed, my eyes clouded as I thought about how she would look. I was attracted to dark-haired women more than blonds, shorter and softer rather than athletic. Kind and gentle, but strong and confident to be my partner and co-leader of our pack. I wanted someone who would challenge me, brave and a fighter, not a meek or arrogant woman. “Just not some arrogant wench, who will be just thinking about herself. I mean she will be a Luna, the mother of the pack after all. She will have a big shoe to fill after mum,” I explained, seeing him nod in approval, his eyes gleaming with love after mentioning mum. “That´s fair, just wait when you meet her,” he chuckled, “in that moment everything around you will disappear and your solemn focus will be on her," he continued, “you will very easily forget all about your requirements.” He said with determination and I saw the sparkle of mischief in his blue eyes. “Now, I think you should get some rest before your journey tomorrow,” he was still ordering me like I was some little pup, but I knew he had the best interest in mind, so I nodded and gave him a hug, taking his familiar clove scent to calm me immediately. “I love you Sawyer,” dad said, patting my head, and even now, after all these years, the gesture brought me a feeling of belonging and safety. “I love you too,” I mumbled and smiled as I watched him walking away from my office, stopping at the door before turning to me, “Oh, and please give Georgiana my greetings,” he spoke before leaving. I felt better after talking with my dad. He was like a pillar, I knew. I could always lean on. I closed my eyes feeling exhausted as I sat on the office chair before deciding to finish for today. I didn´t even know how I got into my house and my room, like a drunken lad, but suddenly I was lying on the bed, my eyes closing like a vision of how my mate would look and like clouded my mind. I dreamt about extraordinary smoky grey eyes like a storm taking me away and long obsidian hair curling as the wind flew through them while the person was smiling at me with the most beautiful smile I had ever seen in my life. With the happy thought I was floating in the abyss finally feeling at peace. With a strange content and harmony crawling and spreading inside me, my mind found rest, my body felt heavy and I was lured into deep serene sleep.
