Chapter 4: Get The Hint

1323 Words
Victor P.O.V   I watched her run into the treeline from my balcony and I couldn’t help but smile after her. She was incredible, beautiful, and I wanted her so badly. Rex had been purring and growling the whole time I had her within my reach. He will want to meet her wolf again soon, I’m sure. With only a few hours before I was due to meet with my Beta and lead warrior to go over today's training program, I aimed to get some sleep. I crawled back onto my bed and drifted off with the smell of Elizabeth’s scent spread all over my room.   I awoke a few hours later to the sound of knocking on my door. I knew I must have been late meeting my brother and Nora, so I jumped up to answer and apologise. As I opened the door, I was shoved back by Nicki. Her red hair danced in front of my face as she pushed me against the closest wall and sealed us inside my bedroom. “Nicki? What are you doing here?” Nicki was one of the many shewolves with a hidden agenda to be my Luna. She had always managed to get closest to me out of the lot of them. She was my father’s Beta’s daughter. I couldn’t deny that she was beautiful. Her wavy red hair cradled her face and shoulders, and I hate to admit, a few drunken nights when we were teens, had led me to previously kiss her. I was, however, no longer interested. “Oh honey, why are you surprised to see me? I know you’ve missed me.” She was running her hands over my bare chest before she stopped and sniffed the air around us. She glared at me with her forest-green eyes, and I smiled inwardly thinking of Elizabeth's smell swirling around me. “You’ve had another woman in here! Another slut?” I stared down at her and grabbed her shoulders. “You will never call her that again. Get out of here; I no longer want you hanging around me.” Her jaw dropped and I almost laughed. I hadn’t expressed my interest in her in years, so why was she here now, taking so much offence to my behaviour? I opened the door and gestured for her to leave. She stood there, with her arms folded, staring at me. “For Goddess sake, Ash!” I called. Nicki continued to glare at me until Ash had appeared at my door. “Please remove Nicki from my floor, and ensure that she does not access it again”. He looked at her and frowned. “Come on love, I’ll walk you down.” Nicki had soon turned on her heels and left, but not without a loud huff and an aggravated side glance at me. Ash chuckled as he followed close behind her. He was always a gentleman with her. They had been ‘close’ once, before he had met his mate. Nicki was never embarrassed to express her displeasure at not being wanted by either of the Bane brothers. Relieved to see the back of her, I quickly ran into the bathroom and stripped off my bottoms. I was soon under the warm water, thinking of Elizabeth. Thinking of having her here with me, her wet curves and parted lips, inviting me. Oh Goddess, what are you doing to me? I didn’t linger in the shower with my thoughts for too long. I jumped out and dried myself off. I quickly ran into the closet and grabbed a pair of dark blue jeans and a casual shirt, and made my way to my office. It’s crazy to think that just a few hours ago I had been in here, not knowing that Elizabeth had been just outside.   As I entered the room, Ash and Nora stood from the two chairs in front of my desk. Ash simply nodded, and Nora smiled at me. Nora had been a young shewolf that had been taken in with her family by the pack around the time I was born. I had grown up training to fight with her, and she had undoubtedly become one, if not ‘the’ strongest fighter. It earned her the position of head warrior, my Gamma, when I became Alpha. “Morning both. Sorry I’m late. I didn’t get much sleep and had an uninvited guest this morning. Please sit.” Ash laughed in amusement. “How does she even get up here? How has she not gotten the hint yet?” Nora smiled at what Ash had just said. “Nora, please see to it that she ‘gets the message’, and does not intrude past the ground floor into mine and Ash’s residence again.” Nora smiled. “With pleasure Alpha. You know I don't like the girl anyway!” I ruffled a few of the papers on my desk and then started the debrief. “So, what's new?”.     Elizabeth P.O.V   There were so many of them! I had never seen so many wolves in one place. Children, hunters, warriors, trackers. This pack had someone doing everything. It looked like a beehive first thing in the morning. I had decided to stay hidden not far from the treeline just behind the packhouse. I was up in the tree off the forest floor and hidden by the foliage. I didn’t want to be seen, and I couldn't bear to be too far from Victor.   I knew Victor was the Alpha. When I saw his wolf, I knew he wasn’t just some average werewolf. His aura was strong, intoxicating, and oozed dominance. I felt I could trust him, I guess that’s why I didn’t run from him, along with the pull I could feel with every strand of hair on my body, like static energy. If I was to stay here, I knew I would have to take up the mantle of Luna. I spent hours daydreaming about what it might be like to live in a pack, to be loved by someone. But, I had my doubts. How could one person run a pack this size, while knowing they were all loyal. I am hunted and have been since the day of my birth. I have spent my life running and feel tired of it, but it's necessary to stay alive. What would happen if a pack member figured out who I was and betrayed me? What if I was captured and taken away from Victor? We would both go insane; I'd heard stories from my mother about separated mates. It’s not something I had ever wished for myself!   The day dragged on. I kept my eye on the packhouse in case I saw Victor again. I saw him flitting in and out throughout the day, and every so often, he would stop and look towards the treeline. I knew he could sense me here.  If there had been an easy way to get into his room during the day, I know I would have already snuck back in there. The pull was too great. Luckily, the situation I found myself in meant that wasn’t possible, and it just lengthened my longing for him! I honestly didn’t know what I was doing! My mother had always told me to be careful. She had never met her mate. She had seduced another wolf to conceive me and had lived with me in solitude ever since. We rarely saw another wolf, apart from when we were running away from them. Two white wolves were always easy to spot.   My stomach was doing somersaults when the daylight finally started to fade; I became more restless. I knew it wouldn’t be long before I could see him again. The urge ate away at me; I wanted to feel his lips on mine. Once the night had drawn in, the number of pack members thinned out and I slowly climbed down from the tree and stretched. I was still wearing his t-shirt, and his scent was all over me. It eased my nervousness. I carefully made my way back up to his balcony the way I had the night before and waited outside his glass doors until he returned to his room.
