Chapter 5

Ella's POV “Okay breathe Ella... just breathe, you can do this," I said to myself as I took in a deep breath, calming myself down. We had been at the mall for 5 hours now and I was slowly losing it. Alex was currently having the time of her life right now, but I was miserable because she kept on pulling me from one store to the other and my legs just couldn't take it anymore. “Alex please, let's just pick a simple dress and leave," I grumbled as I walked behind her. “Simple?" she stopped looking back at me. “Hell no, I can't allow you to wear a simple dress for your first date after 5 years. No, I would rather break an arm than allow you to do that," she said, shaking her head as she continued walking. “You are always so dramatic," I huffed behind her and she chuckled softly. “Yeah, I know that already," she smirked, looking at me. “Come on let's go, I think I just saw something I liked," she said as she took my hand and pulled me into another shop. “God give me the strength" I murmured to myself. Alex scrambled through the aisles looking for the perfect dress for me and if anyone could see her right now they would think she was the one going on this date, not me. “Yes...Yes...Yes, I found it," she screamed, as if she had just seen a lost treasure. “Ella... I'm a genius, I just found you the perfect dress for this Friday," Alex chirped happily, the excitement I saw in her eyes was so canny that I couldn't help myself but smile as well. “Wait... What are you waiting for? Hurry up and try it on," Alex squealed as she practically pushed me into the dressing room. Trying on the royal blue dress Alex had handed over to me, I wouldn't lie. The dress was phenomenal. It was a knee-length dress with crystal droplets that sparked so brightly under the fluorescent lights, and did I say it held me in places I didn't know was possible? “Come out Ella... let me see you," I heard Alex's voice from outside. Walking out of the dressing room slowly, Alex gasped as soon as she laid her eyes on me. “Goodness Ella... you look amazing,” Alex smiled, saying “Yeah, I feel amazing too," I let out, smiling. “That's it, my work here is done, I have completed my mission and we have found ourselves a dress," She chirped in excitement. “Thanks... and here I was doubting you for a second," I laughed and a frown grew on Alex's face. “Well, I'm happy that at least I proved you wrong," Alex grinned as she pulled me closer to herself. “Why don't we go and pay for this dress, then get ourselves some food to eat, I'm starving," Alex whispered and I smiled, nodding my head in response. We paid for the dress at the cashier and soon we were off and I couldn't have been happier leaving the mall. (Friday Evening) I spent all my week at the shop trying to pass the time, just dreading the moment that Friday would come. Evelyn was excited to have me back, but it looked like she didn't need me at all because she did such an amazing job running the place. “Evelyn, can you close up for the evening? I have to leave early," I said to her. Evelyn smiled, she had those smiles that could melt anyone's heart. “Of course, Ella, go have fun tonight, okay, trust me. You deserve it," Evelyn let out. “Wait, who told you about tonight," I asked, but I soon realized it was a foolish question because I knew exactly who told her. “Alex!" we both said her name at the same time and also laughed instantly about it. “Alex and her big mouth," I let out, shaking my head. “Okay, off you go, I will take care of everything," Evelyn said, hurrying me out of the shop. Driving home, I walked up to my apartment. It was like Alex was waiting for me because her eyes shone brightly as soon as she saw me come in. “Are you ready for the night?" she chirped as she rushed up to my side. “I'm not sure," I answered, her excitement was kind of making me nervous. “Even though I still feel you could have waited, I think it would be good for you, so well then come on let's get you ready," She smiled, pulling me into the room. I had a bubble bath. Alex insisted on a minute bubble bath. She said it would relax me. But trust me, it didn't help at all, because my nerves were slowly getting to me. After that, Alex did my hair and glam makeup on my face, turning me into a goddess. I soon slipped into the dress we had brought from the mall, and. Soon I was ready. Standing in front of the mirror, I took a deep breath to keep my nerves at bay. “Wow look at you, you look amazing babe," Alex said, standing close to me. Arthur's jaw will drop when he sees you," Alex smiled as he held on to me. Where did he say he was taking you too," she asked. He didn't say, he just said he would be picking me up," I answered as I looked at myself once more in the mirror, trying to control my breathing. 5 years... maybe I wasn't ready like I had thought, maybe I was just jumping the gun and I didn't think this through," I screamed to myself as the fear soon settled deep within my thought. “Hey, what's wrong," Alex asked as she looked at me with concern in her eyes. “Alex, what if I'm not ready, what if this was a bad idea," I mumbled out. Alex looked at me for a while as if she was studying me, then she said. “Yeah it is probably a bad idea," she said, and I nodded in agreement as I dropped my purse. I was about to take off my shoes as well when I heard her say again. “But you wouldn't know if you didn't try. I know it's nerves talking. Hell, I think you should give yourself time as well. But I don't think you should allow fear to control you, and it is just a date," she said, and I breathed out heavily, knowing she was right. Soon my phone dinged. Looking at it, it was a text from Arthur. He is at the door," I said to Alex and she nodded. “You can do this," she smiled and I nodded as I picked up my purse, walking out of the room. Alex opened the door, and Arthur walked in, seeing me. It looked like his breath had been lost or something. “You look beautiful," he let out softly as he moved closer to me. “Thanks," I whispered nervously. We both stood there just staring at each other until Alex broke us out of whatever trance we were in. “That's okay, lovebirds, I think it is time to leave," she said, and we both laughed, walking to the door. “Take care of her, Arthur," Alex yelled and he nodded slowly in response. We soon walked out and into the elevator, when I got a text from Alex. “If he is a creep and you need saving, just call me immediately," the text read. Smiling wildly, I couldn't help but laugh. ''Alex... I smiled to myself. She is always looking out for me.
