Ch.10 ~ Please... let her be okay

1551 Words
Kai’s POV When Luca came to my office this morning, informing me about the bridge at the southern border. I took it as one of those chances to enter my territory. But they had the biggest surprise in their life, and I also got one when my daughter got injured. I carried her small form through the forest to the gravel road. Her pretty smile was the last thing I saw when she shuddered in my arms. Her weight increasing. “Wilona.” I called out as I enter with her in the car and laid her on the seat. She didn’t respond, and my heart skipped with fear. “Come on, Jordan, step on it.” I growled at the driver. Making him stutter, "Yes Alpha." Oh, goddess, I cannot lose her too… She is my only daughter. I know I have been stern towards her for the past weeks, but please… let her be okay; I silently prayed. Luca gave me sweatpants and a t-shirt that I gladly slipped into, before the huge grey and white building of the hospital came into view. The car stopped at the emergency entrance. I watched as the medical staff take Wilona from my arms. Her blood smearing my clean clothes, but I didn’t care. “Alpha, she lost a lot of blood, and she will need a transfusion during her operation.” Dr. Lou spoke in a hurry. I hurried next to the stretcher as they wheeled Wilona inside a small cubicle where they prepared her for surgery. “Please, do everything that is needed to save her.” I told him through gritted teeth. Watching them wheel her through the double doors. I paced the foyer, replaying everything that happened when those wolves noticed her. ‘I am sorry, Kai. I took long to protect her.’ Nova, my wolf, whimpered. ‘It’s not your fault. She was too distracted to check her blind spots.’ I replied as I went to the private waiting room. ‘Yet, she was the only female those wolves reacted to. Why?’ Nova asked. Resting my back on the chair with my head facing the white ceiling. Pondering on what he asked. “Kai!” Annuziata came running to me. I caught her in my arms, stroking her long brunette hair. “First it was Laila, now Wilona.” She sobbed. “I am sorry, my love. I...” “I told you she wasn’t ready and yet you let her join the fight.” Amedeo growled. Interrupting us. I ignored his scolding and kissed my mate’s tears. ‘Stupid uncle.’ Nova remarked, annoyingly. “She will be fine. She is strong.” I reassured her. She flinched when Amedeo punched the wall, popping his knuckles in the process. I took a lungful of her peaches and cream scent. Calming my senses before staring at Amedeo. “I am talking to you, Kai.” “Wilona is a WARD. She was born ready, and... she will be fine.” I said, glaring at him over Annuziata’s shoulder. He flared his nose, and I could see his blue eyes shining with blame. “Amedeo, take a walk.” Annuziata turned, pouting her lips in anger. He threw his hands in the air and walked away. Mumbling goddess knows what. I watched Luca limp his way to the sofa. “Please get that leg checked and go home to your mate.” I told him. He protested, but eventually went away. Annuziata and I rested quietly on the sofa. We stayed for two hours and a half hours in the waiting area. She even fell asleep on my chest. I entwined my hand with hers and brushed my lips over her soft skin. Zara came into the room panting, with her eyes red and puffy. Amedeo rumbling behind her. I shook Annuziata, waking her up. She hugged Annuziata, asking about Wilona. “She is still in surgery.” She shrugged and I could see in her dark blue eyes that she wanted to go be with her daughter. My phone vibrated in my pocket. “I need to take this.” I said to her while kissing her cheek. “Alpha Kai... My sincere condolences.” I heard alpha Fillipo’s mincing voice. It confused me as to why he would think one of my family member passed. “What are you talking about?” I blew air through my nostrils, flaring them in annoyance. “Word travels fast in case you forget... I heard your daughter is with the goddess. Bless her soul.” “And that makes you happy, right?” I interjected. There was a brief silence until I broke it. “My daughter is still breathing. Goodbye.” I hung up with a huff. ‘What if he is behind the attack?’ Nova grumbled. ‘It’s likely since he didn’t agree about Wilona being selected as the next Alpha of our region.’ My phone vibrated again, and I answered angrily. “What?” “Alpha, it’s Steven.” His shaky voice sounded on the phone. He updated me on the interrogation. “Okay, I will see you tomorrow.” My wolf growled, telling me to go kill the prisoner. ‘We need information first, Nova.’ I entered the room wanting to talk to Annuziata, but the doctor walked in before I uttered a word. His face wavered, and I held Annuziata’s hand with worry. “The surgery went well, with minor complications due to blood loss. But she is not in any danger.” He spoke, fixing his glasses. I let out a heavy breath while squeezing my mate in my arms. “But…” I raised my brow. “… because of the shock her body sustained; she is in a temporary coma as part of the healing process. She almost lost her shoulder, but we saved it.” He said, looking at us with hopeful eyes. After he explained everything, he let us go to her room. As soon as we walked inside, her small figure lay underneath the sheet. Looking pale, but rested. Annuziata cried, quietly stroking her hand. I kept my feelings neutral to avoid her feeling my agony. Since I didn’t want to bother her with my suspicion. ‘Do you think her life is in danger?’ I asked Nova. He pondered before responding. ‘You saw how those wolves reacted in the last minute.’ He replied. ‘I will get at the bottom of this if it’s the last thing I do.’ I grounded my teeth and sat on the chair next to my mate. After seeing her, we went home to rest. “What are you going to do about that man you caught.? Is he still not talking?” Annuziata sighed as she gets inside the covers, lying next to me. “I hate that they almost killed our pup.” She added, facing me. “He hasn’t spoken a word nor look at Steven when he interrogated him and that made me mad. Nova wanted to go kill him out of rage, but I had to convince him we need information before killing him.” I replied and scooped her warm body closer to me. I breathed in her scent, calming my racing heart. She hummed in response and went silent. I fell into a dreamless sleep, holding her in my arms. -*- We woke up early and attended the pack business before going to the hospital. Annuziata requested the doctor to put Laila and Wilona in the same cubicle this morning. I looked at them covered in white sheets. “Any changes?” I asked Doctor Lou as soon as he walked through the door. He pushed his glasses back with his finger, squinting his eyes on Wilona’s file. “I gave her anti-inflammatory injection last night and pain medication through the drip. She is responsive thanks to the healing of her wolf.” He said with a soft smile. “When is she going to wake up?” Annuziata asked while stroking her short, bleached haircut. “I can’t say for sure. We just have to wait for her to wake up.” He replied, checking her drip before updating us on Laila. I sat on the chair, watching Wilona’s lungs rise and drop comfortably. ‘She looks peaceful.’ Nova whimpered. ‘She does.’ I replied with a sigh. She moaned in her sleep and stirred, then went silent. I was about to talk when my phone rang. I hurried out of the room to answer it. “Kai, hello.” I sighed, glad to hear from the person I was waiting for since yesterday. “I got your email. How is Wilona?” He asked, his voice concerned. “She is out of the woods and waiting for her to wake up.” I replied, hopefully. “Did you speak to them?” I continued. “I will send them first thing tomorrow morning. I hope he can be able to get you the answers you need.” He told me and I thanked him then hung up. This is the only chance to deal with whoever dared to attack my pack. ‘I can taste the blood in my mouth already.’ Nova chirped.
