Chapter Seven

DAN. I willed myself not to shed any f*****g tears as I left the house, she doesn’t deserve me. With that mantra in my head, I entered my car and drove out of the building without looking back, f**k anyone who says love was beautiful. They are lying, with how much I can feel my heart aching I will say that love hurt more than any f*****g thing in this world. As I made my way down the road leading to the mansion, I will admit that I wasn’t looking at where I was going. The next thing I heard was people yelling and that grabbed my attention, I looked at my front and cursed then pressed my leg on the brake. I cursed and looked at the lady who walked aimlessly into the road. What the f**k is wrong with her? Looking closely I could see that she was still sitting on the ground, maybe in shock or what. I let out low profanities as I stepped out of my car, I made my way towards her and saw her shivering slightly. She was shivering slightly and I could tell it was as a result of the shock. But what the hell was she thinking entering the road like that without thinking? Seeing that she wouldn’t get up anytime soon, I had to kneel beside her and hold her hand for some comfort. And I gulped when I felt a slight shiver rush down my spine. “Hey, are you alright?” I asked and she did the least thing I could expect from someone who was trying to get herself killed just now. She started crying like she was gravely wounded. “Hey, are you hurt anywhere?” I’d to ask. She let out a low sad chuckle but didn’t say anything instead she went on crying her eyes out. I opened my mouth today something else but had to shut it when she raised her head to look at me. An angel. That was the only thought on my mind on seeing her, she had the most delicate and soft face I’ve ever seen and I had the urge to wipe those tears from her beautiful face. I could also feel her eyes on my face and I smiled internally, I wasn’t the only one who was admiring god’s perfect creation. My thoughts were cut short as she suddenly took my hand off hers and shifted backward like I was a thug intending to hurt her or something. Staring at her in disbelief I wanted to ask what was wrong but her next word shut me up. “Stop touching me you pervert!” She yelled at me, startling both herself and myself. She got up so quickly like she wasn’t the one in a trance earlier. With no other choice, I had to get up with her as I watched her worriedly, “Are you sure you’re fine miss? I can take you to the hospital and get you checked up.” I suggested and she sniffed. ‘Rich people, always trying to flaunt their money in our faces.’ She whispered to herself but I heard her clearly. I mused, so she thought that I was offering to send her to the hospital because I was rich and wanted to flaunt it in her face. “I’m not rich miss but I’m a doctor and can check if you are fine that’s if you agree.” He explained with a small smile and I almost burst into laughter when I saw how her cheeks became red after saying that. This lady is so cute. And she looked even cuter with her red cheeks. “You almost ran me over mister.” She said staring accusingly at him. What? Me? I almost ran her over, wasn’t she the one who walked into the road without looking if an upcoming vehicle was coming? She should be grateful I was able to stop the car on time before it hit her. My face hardened, “you were the one who wasn’t looking at where she was going to miss.” I snapped back and I heard her scoff. She folded her hands under her boobs, making it more visible as she glared defiantly at me. “If you were watching where you are going this wouldn’t have happened. I wouldn’t have been almost ran over if you had stopped your car on time.” She said. What on earth was this crazy miss talking about, I stopped the car on time so it wouldn’t hit her. I saved her life and instead of her being appreciative she was being sassy and talking back at me. “I will also say the same thing to you miss, you weren’t looking at where you were going and you entered the road without watching the traffic signs,” I yelled, and a loud honk from the cars behind drew our attention. Right, I totally forgot there were other cars behind me. I turned to look at the cars and their impatient driver before raising five fingers for indication. “Five more minutes,” I said before looking back at the miss. “You are supposed to be apologizing miss and not throwing blame at an innocent person.” I could see something snapped in her when I said the word ‘innocent’ she glared at me like she wanted to kill me with her eyes. I bet if eyes could kill I would be six feet under by now. “You aren’t innocent bastard, all you guys do is chase everything in skirts, and then once you have gotten that person’s body, you either dump the girl or you cheat on her. You all are scum!” She snapped at me and her eyes watered again. I became tongue-tied as she lashed out at me, I know that look very well. She was hurt or rather had been hurt by a man and now she thinks all men are scumbags because of a mistake one man made. I opened my mouth to speak but had to shut it close again, “Look miss, I don’t know what happened to you or who hurt you but you should know that not all men are scum and you shouldn’t take your problems out on other people. How about I give you a small remedy, it isn’t much but I’m sure it will help you a lot if you have any hateful words you’ll like to say about that person why don’t you get a little diary and write down those words. You can even draw a picture of that person as a monster or even draw that person just to poke it with your pen every night.” I suggested, hoping it would alleviate her mood and it did. I felt accomplished when a little laugh left her mouth. Honks. Could those bastards turn it down a bit? I glared at the cars behind me and sighed, I guess this was it. I looked at the young Miss again, “I hope this works for you miss and from the look of things, I can see that you are alright. Take care of yourself and don’t let any f*****g asshole bring you down.” I gave her one last glance before entering my car. It was hard to leave her that way but I know I had to do so, we didn’t know each other before today but why does it feel like I’ve known her for years now? Sighing I started the car and as I drove away from there I could feel her eyes on me. I didn’t look back because I knew one look at her and it would be hard to go home. Home. Can that place even be considered as my home after these past few years? It couldn’t possibly be home when the people you call your family want nothing but to see your downfall. I knew why Lucas did that, I knew he felt threatened because I was my father’s first son. He would do anything to get me out of the way and get my inheritance. But do I even want that, do I want to gain more power and then lose my family—lose the people who would be around me when I’m down, when I’m feeling happy, or on my deathbed? My answer was a bold letter NO. I would trade anything to bring back the peace in my family. This drama was getting out of hand and I needed to do something to stop it. As I drove in speed back to the mansion, the cute and angelic face of Erica flashed in my head and I clenched the steering. I trusted her, I love her with my being and this was what I got instead of her devotion and love. While I was trying to make her my wife she was going behind me f*****g my stepbrother like her life depended on it. I wouldn't blame her though, I mean who wouldn't go for the bigger fish? Obviously, she thinks that I don't have a say or anything in my father's company, Lucas has always been the one who placed the company on his head like it was his. Working in my father's company has never been on my to-do list or even in my dream but that had always been Lucas's dream. Aiming for something higher, something that would elevate him to a higher place without working hard. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, I wouldn’t let those things bother me again. Erica must have had her reasons why she did what she did and like I said earlier I don’t blame her. In a blink of an eye, I was already in the mansion parking my car in the parking lot. After turning off the car engine, I stayed inside the car and rested my head on the steering. This was a big f*****g mess. Someone whom I trusted had to backstab me. Someone who I was going to make my wife. A single bitter laugh left my mouth as I stepped out of the car. I walked into the house twirling the keys between my fingers and luckily for me there was nobody in the living room. I headed straight to my bedroom and almost screamed in shock when I saw a figure sitting on my bed. “What the hell are you doing here Evelyn?” I asked, slowly shutting the door and making my way inside. Sensing my presence she brought her head up from her phone and looked at me….was that pity I was seeing in her eyes? I shook the thought off, there was no way Evelyn would pity me. She would rather trouble my life and see that I was in pain rather than pity me then maybe I was overthinking this. I closed my eyes and opened them only to see the same look in her eyes—pity. Why was she looking at me like that? She didn’t know what happened to me unless….
