Chapter 2: Present *** “Wait…” Suddenly the panic he felt before filled Ciel’s eyes once more. “What is it?” Frank asked as he stared at the man that began scouting the room looking for something. “It’s not here…” Ciel said while looking up with his eyes looking like he was about to cry again. “What isn’t?” Frank asked him once more with more urgency this time. “The scarf… the scarf the cute girl gave me…” Ciel explained as he fell to the ground ever so dramatically. Frank’s eyes widened in realization. “Don’t tell me… you lost is while running away from Dante?!” He asked him in a loud voice. Another knock from upstairs was heard. “I probably did… I have to go back and look for it. Come with me.” Ciel said as he grabbed his roommate’s arm and dragged him towards the door. “No way what if we see him out there?!” Frank asked him as he pulled himself back. They were almost outside he was holding on by the heels of his legs. “That’s exactly why you have to tag along?! Are you my friend or not?!” Ciel asked him as he continued pulling with all his strength but he couldn’t really win over the man when it comes to strength. “I’m seriously starting to wonder as well.” Frank remarked in a careless manner. Ciel kicked the man from behind and pulled him out the door with force. “Just come with me!” They headed to down street and traced back the way the man had ran. “s**t… it’s so cold outside… do you have any idea when you lost it? Like you ran through a bunch of blocks and small alleyways, I don’t even think we can cover all that ground before it gets dark.” Frank admitted through his shivering teeth. “Then we’ll just continue looking after dark…” Ciel said while going back and forward, looking through various bushes and anywhere it could have even remotely fallen. “Why are you so hell bent on that anyways? It’s just a scarf.” Frank asked as he looked around as well. “It’s not like it’s made of gold or anything…” He continued in a solemn voice. “Because I want to see that girl again.” Ciel admitted. “She was really beautiful and came to me at a moment where I had completely lost hope… so I have to continue looking and maybe this is… destiny…” Ciel spoke with a hope filled voice. “The lame thing about fate right?” Frank remarked in a disinterested manner. “It’s not lame it’s real and she’s going to be my lover.” Ciel declared with confidence. “There’s no way it can go wrong… if I just find it and then find her and it’s going to be-” “Sure…” Frank interrupted him. He looked completely exhausted from just talking with the man. They spent about two hours tracing back the man’s steps and searching through absolutely every nook and cranny that the scarf could have possibly ended up being… “We won’t find it… let’s just go back…” Frank suggested as he watched his friend still digging through dirt. “What if it was thrown in the trash?” Ciel wondered as he tried to hop inside without thinking but his friend grabbed him by the collar and stopped him. “There’s no point to this anymore… maybe someone picked it up along the way, or it was blown by the wind, either way just forget about it… it’s so dark we can barely see anything anymore…” Frank said as he glanced down at his phone. “I’m running out of battery as well… How about we end this?” He questioned but the expression upon his friend’s face was so saddening. “I just wish… I could see her one more time… is that too much to ask?” Ciel stopped looking and headed back with Frank along his side. His friend couldn’t offer him any reassuring words at that moment. “It’s just not fair that…” As Ciel tried to complain more he bumped into his friend who walked in front of him but had stopped suddenly. “What’s the matter?” He asked tilting his head to the side. “Is that the girl? Long blond hair to her waist… light skin and a Christmas themes dress…” Frank described her the same way Ciel had described her to him. Only at that moment he was staring at the person in question. “That’s her! Incredible! So there is a God after all! Thank you God you truly are the greatest!” Ciel began to rejoice with so much jumping up and down one would think he was mentally unstable… which wouldn’t be too far off the mark but that wouldn’t be the reason he behaved erratically. “Okay, fix yourself up, if you’re going to go and talk to her you have to look decent at least… but you’re so dirty…” Frank remarked while looking his friend up and down. “Doesn’t matter actually you should go and shower then come back here and-” As he tried to give the man a suggestion, he turned around and Ciel was already gone. Frank turned his attention forward where he watched his friend approach the woman with such confidence he was wondering if that was the same person he’d known for years… “Hey…” Ciel’s expression remained stiff as he faced the woman. She smiled his way and asked. “A table for how many?” Turns out she was a hostess at the restaurant on that street. “I’d like…” Before Ciel could utter another syllable however he noticed something in the distance. On one of the tables the same scarf he’d lost that day was just sitting there… Ciel quickly walked past the woman and towards the unoccupied table, or so he thought until the person that was supposed to be there returned… “Oh? So you came back after all, I thought you were avoiding me.” A rough voice sounded from behind him. Ciel slowly turned around although he already had a strange feeling who would be there when he did… “Anything to say for yourself?” Dante asked him with his arms crossed standing there and blocking the man’s escape path. “I’d love to tell you if you stepped aside and-” Ciel was denied instantly. “If I move even an inch you’ll run away again so sit down in the booth and I’ll sit next to you.” Dante was going to take measures the man doesn’t disappear again. “Um… sure…” Ciel slowly followed the man’s instructions while signaling to Frank who was outside the restaurant to come in and save him quickly. “Oh, brother, do you know him? I guess that’s why you wanted a table for two although you almost always dine alone!” Surprisingly the same cute girl from before had approached them and Ciel stared into nothingness. “B-brother? You two are related…?” Ciel looked at the beautiful blond and then back at his ex Dante and didn’t see a single similarity, everything from their eye and hair color was different, their face shapes… their bodies, height… not a single thing was similar between them. “I have to go back to work but have another menu, alright. Enjoy!” The beautiful blond went back to welcoming guests and left the two men sitting side by side looking uncomfortable with each other… ‘Just what kind of a mess did I get myself into now?!’ Ciel wondered to himself quietly as he was forced to stay still next to the one man he didn’t want to be around…
