Lise - When have you seem him in such a bad condition? - I asked Conrad and he leaned against the wall. - I haven't seen him personally, but I can imagine what he could've looked like when he saw her condition. - I took a step closer to Conrad and pulled the knife that I had with me before the world ended. The same one Berke gifted me. I pointed it at Conrad's throat and asked. - Who are you? - Conrad gently pushed the point of my dagger to the left and smiled. - I used to be who she is today! - I felt my jaw dropping and the dagger fell from my grip landing loudly on the marble floor. Conrad bend down to pick it up for me and I felt tears falling from my eyes. -Hey! Why are you crying? - he asked without any formalities and I smiled but couldn't stop crying. My chest felt so much lighter now. - You said she is now, who you used to be, that means she is alive! Berke is alive! - Conrad smiled and gently wiped off my tears. As he touched my cheeks I felt them burning up with a blush. He grinned at my reaction and I had to take a step back to keep my composure. - Yes, she is alive. - But, rumors say she is a witch... That means you... - I couldn't finish the sentence. Conrad bowed deeply and kissed the back of my hand. - Greetings your Highness Princess Annalise, my name used to be Prince Conrad from the Emelest Empire, and I was a wizard. - How did you meet Berke? Why are you so sure that you switched places? - Conrad pulled a chair closer and gently pushed me down on it, after that he grabbed another one and put it with its back to me. He sat down leaning his arms at the back of the chair and started. - She escaped as I said. We found her unconscious and tried to tend her wounds. I've tried to stop her from going back until she gets better, but she was too worried of you and of Emmett. I know understand the later better. Anyway, I opened a travel portal for her to help, but seems like I failed this time as well. - Hold your horses! This time as well? How many times have this happened already?! - Conrad smiled and lifted two of his fingers. - Twice exactly. - But, why do I only remember the second time? - Because the first and second were the exact copies of each other, with the only difference that the second time, I was looking for Berke and found her still alive. The first time she could only tell me to send her home and died on her way back. Your brother tried to bring her back as well and just like the second time, the world reset itself. - If you knew this would happen, why didn't you send us a letter or something?! Letting us know that she was alive and safe? - Honestly, would have your brother believe me? Hey Prince Emmett, I have your lovely lady, she has been beaten up and she is hanging between life and death, don't destroy the world please? - I rolled my eyes, but he was right. Emmett would've rushed there immediately and with him entering to another Empire, without previously letting that Emperor know, it would've ended up in a war. - Wait a minute... Was Damien's plan to lure my brother there with Berke and get a reason to attack our Empire? - I asked and Conrad shrugged. - I don't think so, he probably just wanted to know what your ability is. - So Berke died because of me... - I said and felt tears falling from my eyes again. She died protecting me... Twice already! - Anna! Calm down please, her deaths are not your fault. She loved you a lot and wanted to protect you. - Why didn't she tell them what my power is?! - Because she didn't know. - we both turned to the door and Sébastien was standing there. - Sebby! How long have you been standing there?! - I asked in a trembling voice. He walked in and closed the door behind him. - Since you left. - he turned to Conrad. - When you mentioned your "sister", I knew I wasn't going crazy and what I saw in my dreams were real at some point. - So you remember as well? - I asked and he nodded. - Not as clear as you two do, obviously, but I remember a few things. And one thing I remember clearly. Once Berke told me "You can keep a secret the best, if you don't know it." Lizzy, she didn't tell your secret because as Conrad said, she loved you and also, because she didn't know for certain. - Berke protected you knowing that her life could depend on keeping your secret and she made sure, no one would ever hear it from her. - Conrad said and I cried again. I just couldn't stop. I loved her so much, and missed her. Sébastien hugged me to comfort me and Conrad was about to leave when I said. - Do you think she remembers as well? - Conrad stopped at the door and shrugged. - She didn't remember the first time, but you neither, it looks like this time is really different.
