Elena
" Aunt Lina," I breathed out. I feel like my heart is in my mouth. My throat went dry and my mouth went wide. My palms started to sweat. I do not doubt that she didn't hear anything.
" Well well well!! Our dear Elena is trying to go and study at a college?" She said in a mocking sing-song tone.
A drop of sweat trickles down from my temple. I knew she heard everything. Now the thing which scared me the most is coming true.
" Lina!" Uncle said, walking past me.
" Listen, it is not what you are thinking," the uncle said. I know for a fact that whatever way he tries to make her understand, she will not believe his words. And she will not let me go.
I felt like someone glued my feet and I lost both my voice and energy at the same time, knowing what was coming next.
" Tell me what it is then," she said to my uncle while glaring hard at me.
" Come on, let's go to our room and we will talk nicely there," he said, grabbing her arm and trying to make her move, but she snatched her arm from his grip and walked towards me in fast strides.
Everything had happened so fast that I didn't have time to process everything. The next thing I knew, a sharp pain shot through my scalp which made me wince in pain. She grabbed me by my hair and started to drag me out of his office.
" Aunt," I sobbed while trying to get out of her deathly grip.
" Aunt, please let me go," I said in between sobs and she snickered at me.
She stopped in the living room. When I thought that she would let go of it now, she pushed me to the floor. I was able to save myself from falling on my face but my hand got injured in the process. When I looked at my wrist, it was already red and slowly becoming purple. Tears rolled down from my eyes uncontrollably, not because of the pain in my wrist, but knowing that I don't have any chance to live my life as I wanted and now that she knows she will make my life a living hell.
" What is happening?" Sara said, coming down from her room. She must have heard the commotion that was going on there.
" This little Jinx is trying to escape from this house and your dear father is helping her achieve her goal," she said, glaring hard at me. I sat down and sobbed silently, staring at my now purple and swollen wrist.
" What? And where is she even going?" Sara asked her mother. I know that she is staring at me with a smirk on her face.
" Stop this nonsense right now, Lina," my uncle said, coming towards me, but aunt Lina blocked him by standing in front of me.
" Or else?"
" What are you going to do to me if I don't stop?" She yelled at my uncle. I heard him sigh.
" Why are you doing this to her?" He asked.
" Why am I doing this? Why am I doing this? Seriously. You are asking me why am I doing this?" She said, laughing in disbelief.
" After all the sacrifices I had been making for her all these years. After that, I let her stay there. Gave her the shelter she needed at that time. What didn't I do for her? I even let her go to the same school as them. Did I ever treat her unjustly? She is educated because of us. Don't forget that what she has now is given by us," she said, fuming in anger.
" And you don't forget that whatever we have is because of- my uncle's words cut off abruptly. But what makes me more surprised is that, in my life, since I live in this house, I have never seen my uncle raise his voice in anger. But I wanted him to finish the sentence, I wanted to know what he was going to say. I waited for him to finish but he didn't because of my aunt.
" Don't even dare to start that topic now," she said.
" So what are we going to do with her now," Sara said, crossing her arms across her chest.
Aunt finally turned around to face me. Seeing her smirk at me, a cold shiver ran down my spine. She walked towards me in small strides like a devil that wanted to throw you in the hellfire.
" What did you think? That I will let you leave this house so easily? No darling, you have yet to pay the debt of raising you and let you stay in this house for free while you enjoy all the benefits like your cousins," she said in a low whisper, loud enough for me to hear.
My blood boils hearing her words. How dare she talk to me like that. Yes, I did stay there, but she never treated me like a family hell. She never treated me like a person. I was treated worse than the maids in this house.
" How can you say something like that? And debt? What debt are you talking about? Did you ever let me live like a normal person or like my cousins? Did you ever fill my stomach with food? I was always given the leftovers and you purposely didn't leave more. What education are you talking about? I always did the chores around the house before I left for school. I was not even allowed to sleep a little bit more on weekends. Is that not enough? My thirteen years of hard work in this house even when there were maids," I said in one breath, glaring at her. If I could throw daggers with my glare I would have done that.
She crossed her limits many times in the past, but I let it slide thinking that I will leave here and tell her one day. But since she knows about me leaving here for college, I am done with her attitude and bull s**t for all these years.
Her eyes went wide, probably hearing me saying all these words, and she didn't say anything.
Someone grabbed me by my hair harshly and pulled me up. The pain was so great that I staggered, getting up on my feet.
" How dare you talk back to my mom?" Sara said. Her face went red like a ripe tomato. But before I could give her an answer, a slap came across my face and for a moment my vision went blurry and there was a sound in my ear that was buzzing. I shook my head to clear my vision.
" She did so many-
" Enough."
" I have had enough," I said. I felt like my whole body burned in anger.
" Bi.tch," aunt Lina said, coming forward and grabbing me by my hair once again. And this time I went for her wrist and held it in my grip tightly until she let go of my hair. But my hope went in vain when Sara held both of my hands on her back.
" Let go of her," uncle tried to stop them but he failed.
The front door opened and shut and I knew Liam had come back.
" What is happening?" He asked.
" We are teaching this bi. tch, a lesson. Don't get involved 'brother'," she said in a warning tone. He didn't say anything and went upstairs. I saw him walking away with a backpack on his back.
They started to drag me toward the basement and I knew what was coming next. But somehow I felt relieved that I would be staying there and knowing my uncle, maybe he would be able to come and save me.
They both pushed me away to the floor and I staggered forward and fell on my knees.
" You will stay here until the fever of leaving completely goes away," aunt Lina said with disgust.
I saw my uncle looking at me from behind with sad eyes.
I knew the lock was broken and I needed tools to fix the knob. So there is a chance to escape.
They locked the door and I heard the clicking sound of the lock and with that, a cold bucket of water poured down on my head.
