Katherine's P.O.V
I was so proud of Casey and how she was handling everything, yeah she had a few wobbles, but she remained strong. If I had to go through this I would be a nervous wreck and wouldn't have even been able to come back here. I don't know what to say to her though, there's only so many times I can ask if she's okay before she's going to get annoyed, but what do you say in a situation like this?
"Katherine, where are you? Why aren't you and Casey in school?" My mom mind-linked me, s**t! I completely forgot to tell her, but it was a last minute thing.
"Sorry mom, I forgot to tell you. Casey and I spoke last night and she wanted to come back to her house one last time to sort everything out, but after I thought about it I realised that we wouldn't be able to sort everything out in such a short amount of time, so this morning I suggested skipping school and coming right here instead. I'm sorry, I hope you don't mind." I mind-linked back, but there was only silence.
"It's okay, I understand. I just wish you had told me and I could have helped out. How is Casey doing? Are you both alright?" My mom replied after a few minutes.
"She's actually handling it quite well, better than I expected. We have done all the rooms except for the family room. We put that off until last because that's where her parents….well you know." I replied, packing some more stuff into my truck, I dont think I'm going to have enough room for all of this, but I'll try.
"I know what you mean, I'm proud of you sweetheart, you're standing by your friend and helping her through this. I'll leave you to it, but if you need me just mind-link me. I'll see you when you get back." My mom said, making me smile.
"Thanks mom, will do. I'll see you later….oh and mom. I love you." I replied, after seeing what Casey was going through I needed my mom and dad to know how I truly felt about them.
"I love you too." My mom said, I cut the link off and turned around to go back in the house.
Casey's P.O.V
Katherine was just walking back into the house as I walked out of the kitchen with a scrubbing brush, a bowl of hot soapy water and the mop and bucket.
"What are you doing with those?" Katherine asked me and then she must have realised why, because she shook her head and took the mop and bucket from me. I stood in front of the door and looked back at Katherine, who gave me a nod and a weak smile. I took a deep breath and opened the door, with tears running down my cheeks. I felt sad, but most of all I felt angry, angry that my parents had been taken from me, angry that I was all alone and angry that my parents had to have suffered, judging by the amount of blood at the hands of the monster that killed them. Why them? That was the one question that kept creeping into my mind. I tried to calm myself down as I walked into the room, but as soon as I got in there I dropped to my knees and the bowl of water splashed everywhere.
"WHY? WHY THEM?" I screamed, sobbing into my hands, Katherine put the mop and bucket down, rushing over to my side and pulling me into a hug.
"I don't know sweetie, I honestly don't know." Katherine said, stroking my hair and cooing me. After a few minutes of sitting in that position I wiped my eyes and looked around the room.
"Do you want me to call the thrift shop and tell them not to come? I can take you back to mine and we can come back another time, if you don't feel up to it." Katherine said, but I shook my head.
"No i would rather just get it over and done with, i just wanted to clean it up. You know how house proud my mom was." I replied, Katherine nodded and smiled, like she was remembering my mom.
"Yeah, I remember when you spilt nail varnish and she was straight out with the cleaning supplies." Katherine said, both of us chuckling at the memory. I nodded and bent forward picking up the scrubbing brush, while Katherine went and got the mom and bucket. We both scrubbed and cleaned every drop of blood that had been spilled and the room returned to how it used to look, before any of this happened, but the memory was still there in both our minds. Katherine took the cleaning supplies away while I started taking down family pictures and odd ball photos, packing them safely away in a box. I threw the magazines away and pulled everything out of the end tables, throwing most of that away as well. Everything was finally cleaned in the family room and the only thing left was the closets, I opened the first one and there was nothing in it, so I moved onto the second one. I opened the door and it was full of coats and jackets, I took each one down and went through the pockets, finding tissues, old movie tickets and ten dollars.
I chuckled as I packed the coats away for the thrift shop and put the ten dollars in an envelope with the rest of the money I had found, in total I had found four hundred dollars, which surprised me. I took one last look in the closet and saw two boxes on the top shelf, I reached up and got them down, but decided I would go through them later and just put them in the truck with the other stuff I was keeping. Everything that I was keeping was nearly packed away in the truck and everything else had been packed up to make it easier for the ones collecting for the thrift shop.
