Naeva was already smiling when she heard the squeal and had opened up her arms to hold her sister. Nyra threw herself at Naeva and said, "I missed you so much!" "I missed you too," Naeva laughed as she dragged herself and Nyra back into the house. She was pleasantly surprised to know that her uncle and aunts were not home. She could have this time to herself and catch up with her sister. "You left for three days and didn't even contact me!" Nyra complained with a red face, "I was worried about you." Naeva placed her backpack on the ground and opened it. She quickly took out a few packets and handed them to Nyra. It was no surprise that Naeva brought so many things for her sister. It was always like this. Whenever Naeva went out for more than two days, she'd bring clothes, or snacks or other things for Nyra as compensation. The two sisters saw each other after three days and there was a lot to say. Naeva wasn't very open about her job and Nyra stopped probing about it after a few times. Nyra was still curious but did not waste her time in asking. What was the use of asking if she wasn't going to receive a proper answer? Naeva, however, was very much interested in everything that went on in Nyra's life. She kept asking if their aunt bullied her or had Tristan said something to her. "Nothing like that. Yesterday, someone came to meet aunt Emily and talked about this one guy who could be a potential mateship partner for me -" "What now?" Naeva interrupted her sister halfway. Her tone was not as gentle and her eyes went dangerously narrow. Nyra chuckled and said, "Aunt Emily rejected it like she always does." "That's good. That's one thing that we both think the same. If it wasn't for that greedy attitude of theirs, I would be able to leave you here on your own while I work. Thankfully, they aren't eager to send you off." Nyra looked up at her sister's fierce eyes and smiled. She knew very well how much Naeva loathed the idea of having Nyra enter a mateship. She'd rather have Nyra stay with her for the rest of their lives than stay with someone else. And Nyra knew it was useless to convince her sister that it was the only way she could remain among the werewolves without having fingers pointed at her. She stopped saying that and just went along with their opinion. It wasn't like her words were going to change anything in this house. It was better to be quiet and let life take its course. Naeva stood up from the sofa and adjusted her pants. Standing next to Nyra, she looked especially tall and lean. Naeva had certain goals in her mind when she unlocked her wolf at the age of ten. She trained hard during school and got stronger. Her sole motivation was to protect her sister from the world. For that reason, and added that Nyra wasn't that much of an athletic person, both sisters were polar apart. Nyra stood at the average height of 5'4, while Naeva had already gone up to 5'8. Not only their height, but even their facial features were different. Naeva had sharp contours and bright, ferocious eyes. Nyra was as soft as a person could get. Her face resembled her sisters by two points, the color of their eyes and the thin lips that sisters shared by genetics. Oh, and the straight hair that they inherited from their mother. Nyra always kept her hair long because she liked it that way, but Naeva kept it short and out of her face most of the time. "Did you finish everything? I am a bit hungry." Nyra got up and brought her a serving of food from the kitchen. She didn't know when aunt Emily and uncle Gregory were returning and didn't dare slack off. After eating, the two sisters went upstairs. "What the hell is this mess?!" Naeva gasped upon seeing the room they lived in. "It got a bit messy in your absence," Nyra looked away in embarrassment. She wasn't enthusiastic about cleaning up, so she left it like that. "Did you encounter a hurricane? It's not possible to mess up a room this badly. Come, give me a hand. Clean it up!" Naeva was upset but made sure not to raise her voice around Nyra. She was well aware of her sister's nightmares and how much she hated yelling, screaming and violence. By the time the room was cleaned, it was time for Nyra to go to work. Naeva stayed in the room while Nyra left the house. As soon as Nyra was out, Naeva took out her phone and called a number. "I told you to stop texting me. I took a leave for two days." She whispered furiously to the speaker. The other side was just as frustrated as her. "Look, Crimson, I'm not very happy to have you around here either, but work is work. Didn't you read the agreement before signing it? You can't take so many leaves! How will the organization work if people start taking leaves like this?!" Naeva knew this man was angry when he called her by the codename during out of work hours. She quickly shook the responsibility off her shoulders and dumped it on someone else. "Talk to Andrew if you have a problem. He approved my day off." "f**k! Why is it Andrew again? Are you sure he's not your father?! How come he approves your leaves but not ours?! Are we in the same team or not!? His biased behaviour is pissing me off!" The man on the other side seemed to be typing something when he stopped to curse at Andrew on behalf of the entire team. Then something was smashed. Probably that poor keyboard. "Anyway, don't bother me or I will block you." "Fine." Naeva rubbed her forehead after she hung up and laid down on the bed to sleep. She had been working continuously for more than twenty hours and some sleep was much needed. When she woke up, it was already evening and her uncle and aunt seemed to have returned. With an annoyed look on her face, Naeva went downstairs and, sure enough, both of them were discussing something serious. "I'm back," Naeva announced. "Uh, Naeva." Aunt Emily said. Usually none of them were happy to see Naeva in the house because she held back an awful lot. But today Naeva noticed not only a lack of enthusiasm but also some nervousness. She could practically smell it off of them. "What's the matter? Are you planning something?" Naeva asked bluntly. Aunt Emily straightened up and asked defensively, "Who do you think you are? Be within your limits!" "Whatever. As long as it doesn't concern me and any sister." Naeva rolled her eyes and went to get a glass of water for herself. She walked with steady steps without a sound. If she hadn't spoken first, they wouldn't be able to tell she was there. Gregory and Emily looked visibly disturbed by her behaviour yet chose not to start an argument with her at the moment. Their silence had little to no affect on Naeva at first, but as she saw them whispering to each other, she heard Nyra's name being mentioned and couldn't help but be curious. It wasn't everyday that people in the house cared about Nyra and often times they tried their best to poach benefits from her. Did they really think Naeva was that easy to fool? With an eye roll, she strolled over and stood before them. "I heard Nyra's name. What is this about? Let me tell you first, if you are going to hurt her, then I will burn this house and burn your family of three with it. Think again before you make any plans with my sister involved in it," Naeva blatantly threatened, "I mean it." Gregory was thoroughly displeased by her threats. He was Naeva's uncle but had no control over her behaviour, so it hurt his self-respect. They were helpless in front of Naeva, who had a strong will and wasn't afraid of tough consequences of her actions. "We will not do anything hurtful towards Nyra. But we do have something to say to both of you. Let her come back so we can talk properly." Gregory did not elaborate much after that and Emily kept her mouth shut as well. Naeva wasn't fond of talking to them either. With a little bit of uncertainty in her heart, she went back to her room to wait for Nyra's return from work. She should be back home within an hour or so if she wasn't working overtime. Naeva did not waste time though. She checked a few good places for an outing with Nyra. Naeva remembered her coworker's angry complaints about her leaving. Actually, it wasn't that they easily gave her holidays. She had at least half of her pay cut off for taking a minimum of ten days' leave in a month. It wasn't cheap, but leaving her sister all alone while she worked all the time wasn't what she wanted. So, every few days she'd come back home and take Nyra out. Nyra always thought that Naeva had to work overtime for two or three days, but in fact, Naeva's work continued over the span of a month with only two days off, but she often worked extra hard to spare time for Nyra. With a sigh, Naeva bookmarked a few places they hadn't visited yet. Soon, Naeva caught a whif of Nyra's scent, indicating she was back home. Nyra had a very different scent. While werewolves had a proper scent, one with different undertones, Nyra had a singular floral scent. Nyra smelled of tuberose. Sweet and refreshing. "I'm back," Nyra greeted her uncle and aunt when she spotted them in the living room. "Wash up quickly. We have to tell you something," aunt Emily said in a slightly stern tone. Nyra hurriedly went to her room to see Naeva leaning against the door frame looking bored out of her mind. ----------------- (At the same time as the Lycan organization headquarters) "Sir, today we received an emergency alert from Downstone Park in the northeast. 3:49 am to be exact. It was a rogue. We failed to save three underage teenagers." The young man behind the large desk took the file from his subordinate who was reporting the case to him. With a frown, he quickly went through the highlighted details and let out a sigh. "Another one?" The young man raked his fingers through his long blonde hair. Frustration leaked from his face as he tried to think of a way to explain this to his superiors. This was the sixth case this month and it was only the fifteenth! "Sir, I suggest an emergency meeting with my superiors. With so many rogue attacks this month, I think it's time we updated our plans. It's time to think of new preventive measures, sir." "You are right, this isn't my problem alone. I just manage stuff around here," the blonde man finally caught onto a ray of hope. He turned to the man with grey hair and said, "Andrew, send out a message to your team. An emergency meeting will be held in three days. Alpha Darcy is going to be visiting Surming town during that time, so I will ask him to attend as well." "Very well, sir," Andrew wrote it down in his memo and bowed before leaving. The blonde man flipped through the file again, highlighted some more and placed it on the side. That stack of six files was going to haunt him for days. He had his face planted on his desk and took a deep breath to calm down. Although rogues weren't the biggest problem they've faced so far, it was still a matter of concern when a large number of them actively started attacking packs all of a sudden. He raised his head back and leaned against the chair, slowly rotating the chair as he connected to Alpha Darcy on mind link. The connection was instant and the Alpha accepted it. "Alpha, emergency." He stated as simply. Alpha Darcy was a busy man with way more responsibilities than him. As a Lycan, one of the heads of the Lycan organization, Alpha, of his own pack, Alpha Darcy, had his hands full of many responsibilities, so the organization rarely contacted him or the other two heads until necessary. Today was one of those days. "What emergency, Liam?" Alpha Darcy's slow voice answered. He wasn't rushed or stressed like Liam. "Sir, we have received six rogue attack reports within fifteen days. I have issued an emergency meeting in three days. Are you available to attend?" Alpha Darcy raised his head from the notebook and frowned, "In three days? At the headquarters?" Liam hurriedly replied, "Yes, it will take an hour at most. I know you are coming to Surming, please don't refuse!" Surming was a human city which was very close to their headquarters. If he could make a trip to the city, then sparing an hour of his time wouldn't be a problem! Darcy easily agreed to it,"Alright. I'll be there. What about the other two? Are they attending as well?" "I haven't asked them yet...." "Don't ask them. Both of them are busy." Darcy's dark brown eyes went over the words in the notebook as he replied. In front of him, a five-year-old boy stood with his legs stuck together and a nervous look in his eyes. After cutting off the mind link, he closed the book and took off his silver-framed glasses. "Is it done, uncle?" Daniel asked softly. He cautiously climbed on the bed and watched as Darcy stacked the three books together. "Yes, but make sure your mom doesn't see it or she will know it was me who wrote the homework for you. Hand it over to your teacher..." Darcy placed the notebooks and pencil box in his nephew's arms before issuing a set of instructions to prevent being caught. Daniel's face lit up. He clutched the books to his chest and planted a noisy kiss on Darcy's face. "You are the best!" Daniel giggled. "Alright, go play now. If your mother knows about it, I won't do it for you next time!" Darcy quickly shooed away his nephew. He watched as the five-year-old ran out of the door and then sprawled on the bed. He couldn't help but laughing at the antics he had to play with his nephew. But if his sister caught him spoiling her son..... Sigh. It won't end well. "Darcy! Did you write Danny's homework again?!" A loud, bone-shilling female voice rang through the villa. Darcy groaned and stood up, ready to face the wrath of his sister. He had to teach his nephew how not to get caught by his mother!
