Chapter 4Adam The smell of bacon roused me from a deep sleep and my stomach growled in response. I opened my eyes, and for just a second, I didn’t recognize where I was until memories of the night before flooded in. Cooper. I smiled and rolled over, but instead of Cooper, I found Sugar curled up in his spot, eyeing me warily. “Morning, Sugar,” I whispered, carefully stroked the fur between her ears. “Aren’t you a pretty kitty?” I knew that just because I rescued her last night didn’t mean she was ready to welcome me with open paws. Luckily she accepted my praise and allowed me to move closer. I settled my cheek on Cooper’s pillow and continued stroking Sugar’s fur, pleased when she began purring.
