CHAPTER TWELVE Daniel felt much better once he got on dry land, although it took a few minutes of standing at the pier talking, and a ride down a narrow country road that cut along the slope of a green hill that angled down to the sea, before he felt entirely himself. He saw virtually no sign of human habitation, and so he wasn’t surprised the suspect could walk for such a distance along this road and hardly be spotted by anyone.
