CHAPTER SEVEN Daniel cursed when he saw Pierre Côté run off with Remi going after him. He ran along the terrace to the nearest staircase and risked his neck taking them four at a time. The crowd gawked. Those who didn’t get out of the way fast enough got knocked to the side. By the time he got to the bottom of the steps, Côté was dwindling fast toward a thick growth of trees and underbrush. Remi was in hot pursuit, but already lagging. Damn, that guy is fast, he thought, taking off after them. Why are the guilty always such good runners? He glanced at the two businessmen, who had stopped talking to stare at the chase.
