Chapter 3 - The Wolf

2036 Words
---- Amaryllis ---- Later that night I jump out my bedroom window and again Raven is fast at healing the pain. Slowly I move down the street, in the opposite direction to the night before. This enables me to find a line of large oak trees, with all their leaves that led to the edge of our hidden coven bubble. I work backwards from there and stop when I find I am behind the school. I remember what Willow had said, that the door was in an old sycamore tree covered with ivy. There is a lot of ivy. It definitely isn't supposed to be found. But it is there all the same. Once through I did what Raven asked me to do the previous night and to walk further in so she can shift. I can feel her excitement and I smile. "Are you ready Raven?" I ask her. "Oh yes, thank you Amaryllis. Remember this will still hurt," she replies. I take my clothes off and hang them over a tree and let Raven re-emerge. Today Raven races through the forest and takes a new turning. "Where are we going?" I ask her. "Somewhere new, I have a pull," she replies with earnest. She follows the bubbling river through the forest and we end up in a big clearing full of lush grass, surrounded by trees and underneath a blanket of stars and the moon. Then there is a heavenly scent of spices and Raven suddenly stops. I thought it was to admire the clearing but what she says next leaves me gobsmacked. "Mate." There infront of us is a huge werewolf rolling around on his back in the grass. He has what looks like soft, white fur that shines in the moonlight. When he turns his head and looks at us I can see amber eyes trying to bore deep into my soul. Raven can feel it too. The attraction, the sudden pull. Raven starts to walk slowly towards this strange werewolf. She puts her head up against the side of this wolfs soft white face and nudges it. Shivers run through her body. Little electrical sparks that shock me into silence. She looks deep into his shining amber eyes and I wonder who he is. His eyes are looking deep into Raven's violet ones, trying to reach her soul. She tenses up. Before I can mind link with her and ask her what the hell is happening she turns around, raising her head and howls at the moon. Then she races off, as fast as she can in the direction we came from. I didn't know where he was from. He definitely shouldn't be near witching land though. I dread to think what would happen to him if he were to be caught. It would cause an uproar, pure chaos. "Raven! What's going on?" I ask her. "He's our mate, the one we are supposed to spend the rest of our days with," she replies. "Well that explained the s****l attraction and electricity, but not why you ran from him," I almost cry. "Well, when I looked deep into his eyes I felt him trying to reach me and understand us. I just couldn't take the risk of letting him know you are a witch too. It makes you very powerful to be both and I'm not sure whether they would even consider us if they knew. They as in the same respect of you and I." "Oh" that's all I can think of to say. Disappointment is coursing through my veins and I know that Raven can feel it too. "Why don't I feel strong?" "Because we have not evolved properly yet. I cannot risk showing myself in your coven for your safety. We will know when the time is right." Raven tries to console me. ----- Keiran ----- I am so eager to go out and find the werewolf I heard last night, that I haven't been able to concentrate on anything all day. So when the time was right I left and ran to the beautiful place under the stars that I know. I am letting Goliath, roll around, when we smell a most intoxicating smell. Palm violets. "Mate" Goliath says. We look up and there, far away at the entrance to the clearing, is a beautiful werewolf that smells of palm violets. It looks like she is frozen to the spot but then slowly she moves closer and closer. She looks stunning in the moonlight. Black with purple hues the like I've never seen before. Her eyes are like violet jewels. The next thing I know is she is rubbing her head against Goliath's. The shivers that shoot through him and the fire I know he already has for her. Electricity zaps the brain, jolting me. We look deep into those violet eyes and I know Goliath is trying to see if he can mind link. Before he gets a proper chance she turns around, howls at the moon and races off. I want to run after her but Goliath holds me back and refuses. " There is something not quite right here," he says to me. "So wait for her. Her wolf felt us too, I'm sure, but I sense something else." As I trust Goliath 100% I know there must be a very good reason for him to let our mate go. "We will see her again," he reassures me, although I'm not sure whether he's consoling himself or me. "Next time it must be you who meets her and not me," he finishes. It takes me a good hour long run to get back to my pack. Shifting back, I enter into the pack grounds. Before going to my room I find my feet walking in the direction of the kitchens to see if there is anything already made to eat. After I check four large fridges I discover that there isn't and that my only option is to toast some bread and put butter and jam on top. Nope, I wasn't supposed to use the kitchen. I know I am going to get a ticking off tomorrow but running that far takes the energy out of you. Besides, I am Alpha! I sit at one of the tables and eat my toast in peace contemplating the next day and what it might bring. Now I felt ready for bed, but all I can think about is that wolf, my mate!. Where is she? Where does she come from, but then again I realise it works both ways. Why did Goliath stop me from running after her. He has been very quiet on that subject. I would have thought he would be ecstatic, craving the mate bond. Instead he told me to let her go. If Goliath thinks we should wait then that is what we must do. -- I have been summoned to the library by my father by mind link. He has rudely interrupted my thoughts about my mate and what Goliath had said. My father uses the library when he can't get in my office. "What is it father that you can't have mindlinked me with," I say annoyed. The library is vast with four rows of ceiling high book shelves to the right and on the left is a desk where my father was sat with red leather Chesterfield sofas in front of it. On the wall behind the desk are the family portraits, large and forebearing. "Sit," he says to me pointing at one of the sofas. For the sake of humouring him I do as he asks. It was comfier than standing if he was going to have a stern word. "Now son, as I'm sure you are aware you are 22 and have been Alpha of this pack for two years. I told you at the start that you had until now to find your mate else I would give you a chosen one." Oh no! I knew where this was going and it wasn't going to end in a beneficial way for me. "But father..."I tried to butt in. "Save it Kieran. Your time is up. You are to have a Chosen Luna. You will take Tiffany" I had no choice, I had to let him know. "I've found my mate father," I blurted out. Silence. "YOU'VE WHAT?" he roared, slamming his fist down on the table. "I've..found..my..mate," I roared back into his face snarling at the thought of being trapped with Tiffany. I have no wish to fight but I am also not going to be spoken to like a five year old. NO ONE was going to tell me who my Luna was going to be. "Then where is she? Why isn't she here? Why do you not bear her mark?" my dad carried on. All reasonable questions. "I've literally only just met her father," I was trying to get my temper in check. "And I'm supposed to believe you am I? I know you don't want a chosen mate. If she exists then we must meet her." "No father, I'm not scaring her with you. Don't you dare go ahead and organise anything, especially Tiffany, " I growled at him menacingly. "Just give me a bit more time." My father looked gravely at me across the desk, obviously considering what I've just said. He knew how precious the mate bond was. Both my father and mother have been dedicated to each other and much in love. My father was an Alpha to respect and my mother the same as Luna. Well she had made this pack whole. I totally understood why my father wanted me to have my own Luna for the pack but a chosen Luna just wouldn't be the same. "What's all the racket going on in here?" my mother suddenly flung the door wide open, leaving the hinges all but broken. "You'll wake the whole household!" "I was just explaining to our son that it was time for him to take a Chosen Luna and that I had chosen Tiffany. Then he turns round and tells me that he has found his mate!" My father filled my mother in. "You have found your mate my darling boy, that's wonderful," my mother said to me, joyfully. "So, when do we get to meet her, what's her name, where does she come from," she carried on excitedly. "Oh, please, just leave it, I don't know," I responded. "Okay son. You have a week to bring her to meet us," my father spoke solemnly. "A week!" "Yes, a week and if not then we will start the chosen process." "Mother, help me out," I pleaded, really riled up. "Sorry son, but I have to back your father; this has been the agreement since you became Alpha. I'm sure with your charms and if the bond is as strong for you as it is for your father and I, then you will have the lucky future Luna here within seven days." ---- I walked slowly back to my room and willed Goliath to open up. "Goliath I know you can hear me. Please stop playing with me and let us try and find our mate," I silently plead with him. "I told you, I do not know why, I could not tell, but it is she who must find us," Goliath finally responded to me. "Did you not hear my father and mother down there? They want us to forsake our mate and take a chosen one. If we do then the bond with our mate will be gone forever." "I know Kieran. Technically they don't want us to fail. Just because you can't say anything about her they think that you are unfortunately lying. This is why I am prepared to do what's must. We can go back to the clearing with you in human form in the hope that she shows," Goliath replied. "But other than that we can not look for her." "Okay we will go tomorrow night then Goliath," I told him. "Very well then," he replied and then shut me out again. I'm not used to him shutting me out.
