Chapter 5Taithur levered his mind away from the problem and activated the sensor display. There was no real need to do this as the sensors were routinely programmed to wake him in the event of an emergency, but he felt the need to fill his thoughts with something else if only for a few moments. The sensor readings and recommendations floated into his field of view, apparently suspended in mid-air. In reality the images were fed directly into his visual cortex through his personal link to the stand-by bunk. He closed his eyes to eliminate the slightly disorientating effect of the subdued lighting in the cubicle, and then glanced quickly across the display.
