Chapter 2It was drizzly and cool the next day. Not many people came in for ice cream, which was fine by Alexi because it gave them time to show one of the seasonal hires around the parlor. Her name was Ophelia. She had been a regular for a couple years, always coming in with her family, but she had recently graduated high school and her parents wanted her to get a summer job to save up her own spending money for college. Alexi got more of Ophelia’s life story than they asked for. She wasn’t quite as entitled as some of the kids who came to live in the Poconos for the summer, but it was clear that she had never really wanted for anything in her life and didn’t quite grasp how hard it actually was to earn a living.
