Chapter 2 : The Unforgettable Night

1691 Words
Once Primrose was behind the cover of the door, she threw the wedding certificate on the desk and fell on the bed with a grin. "Primrose was a coward." The voice in her head chuckled. Femininity oozed from it as it questioned, "Coward?" "Wasn't she? You must have seen their faces. It doesn't take much to pull them off their horse. What was Primrose if not a coward to be suppressed under them for twenty years?" Complex matters of life and death, strength and power, were never Primrose's speciality. It was the sudden accident of being transported into a strange world that made her into a scheming woman. Precisely three months ago, Primrose was still residing in her mansion. Her parents, uncles and aunts and various cousins had gathered in the mansion to celebrate the grand event of her turning twenty one. Primrose enjoyed the luxury of being pampered by everyone in the family as she was the youngest and also the only female in her generation, with six male cousins to dote on her. Life and worry were not to be included in the same sentence by her. Her life was already set in a path of success and a frown was only ever seen on her face when she was watching a sad TV show. Unexpected events that change the trajectory of life were not just a concept in tv dramas and novels. Primrose experienced it first hand at the graduation trip down south with her classmates when the bus filled with young adults, music and laughter flipped over the road and crashed all it's windows in fine shimmering powder. The last thing Primrose remembered thinking was : Oh s**t. Then, she woke up in the strange forest in the middle of nowhere with a little husky nuzzling on her face. If that wasn't strange enough, Primrose also witnessed that little husky puppy turning into a little naked boy. The pampered heart of hers couldn't comprehend it. Primrose couldn't hold on and fainted again, only to wake up in the room she was in right now. A lot happened since then. Primrose actually did not find it too hard to accept the fact that somehow she had jumped into another world and taken over the body who conveniently enough also had the same name and was of the same age. The world where shifters roamed under the sun, where vampires came out only at night and the dragons who once soared the sky and rumbled the earth, was where Primrose had landed after her presumed death. Sighing, Primrose turned over on her stomach. At the edge of the bed was an open album that she had been diligently studying for the past few weeks. Three months definitely wasn't a long time to get to know a world entirely in it's essence. Her knowledge of fantasy worlds from novels were negligible and utter false at this point and Primrose had to fend for herself. The situation in her case was especially difficult because of who she was now. An ordinary girl born in the family of shifter and mages. A person who had nothing to add to the noble bloodine. A few crawls was all it took for her fingers to claw at the edge of the album and drag it under her chin. The photo was of herself as a baby in her mother's arm and her father stood right next to the beautiful woman. An elderly couple sat on two chairs in front of them and smiled. Primrose smiled as well, but the sadness was a contrast to their happy ones. Because the Rose in the photo was not here anymore. She was long gone for some unknown reason and the Primrose was now someone else. The page was flipped with a soft rustle. The next photo was of Primrose as a three year old and Helena as a baby in her mother's arms. It was the same picture with an additional baby. The old couple looked older and the young couple was happier. Only Primrose, who wasn't carried by her father, held onto his trousers with her entire fist and looked passively at the camera. The signs were present from as early as then. "Don't be disheartened. You are recognised by me. If there is anyone who can flip right and wrong in this world, it is currently only you." Primrose stiffled a laugh. Without answering, she grabbed the towel from the chair and went to take a shower. It was an act of entirely disregarding the meaning of her heavy words. Being in the presence of the regent was sticky and hot and Primrose couldn't wait to get rid of the smell of his air from her body. As much as his handsome face was enamoring to the core, she couldn't get over his sharp tongue that cut with every word. As the hot water cascaded down the contours of her face, Primrose went through the events that led to their first encounter. It happened exactly two months ago. Back then Primrose was still trying to navigate her way through the new world. She was rejected by her family and humiliated by her younger sister. Helena's behaviour was excessively indulged. At first Primrose tried to be accomodating and tried to smooth things out with gentle means. However, she soon found out that their behaviour towards her had nothing to do with anything else but their own mentality. They believed she was useless with no mage powers. Hence, it was right to treat her badly. The young miss who never suffered injustice in her entire life was by no means a coward like the old Primrose. The first day she landed a slap on Helena's gentle face was on the day when the letter from the palace arrived, inviting the family to attend the crowning of the eldest prince. The eldest prince was officially being titled as the crown prince and the heir to the throne and the banquet was set to be of a high scale with every influencal family in attendance. Including her own Santiago family as they had a close relationship with the royal family. That day was so significant that Primrose could never forget it. Not only did she find out that the third prince was her boyfriend, but the events that followed after were just as bizzare. It was her wolf who narrated the entire incident to her before she could make a joke out of herself. The Santiago family was close to the Alpha family of the pack they resided in as well as the Royal family as they were the only ones who had both shifter as well as mage powers running in their bloodline. As the eldest daughter of the family, Primrose was highly sought after. Because the family never disclosed the disgraceful secret of their daughter being a mere powerless girl with no mage powers. It's natural for someone like her to be discriminated against. Only the families who were well off could afford to raise such people. They were more or less 'Defective' after all. Hence, it wasn't surprising that the third prince and Primrose were a thing in the past. With an emphasis on the past. Because on that fatefully bizarre day, Primrose was met with another letter from the palace that spoke about the eldest prince's coronation as the offical heir. The supposed invite came in the name of his new fiancee. He had sent a special invitation to Helena, inviting her family as honoured guests. It was obviously predetermined to be landed as a bomb. Primrose wasn't particularly sad that day. After all, the one with the relationship wasn't her. Nor did she have the memory. She was ready to go up and congratulate her sister. It was precisely the gloating expression on Helena's face that made Primrose's palm itch. The situation ended up with Primrose's palm making a crisp landing on Helen's cheek. The sound was so loud that her family didn't have any soul left in their body to react. It was the first time Primrose had taken action to stand up for herself and it was so excessive that the family refused to take her along to the banquet after that. Claiming she was a potential hazard for their family name. "You should be happy that your sister is chosen to marry the prince. You are of no use to the royal family anyway. Did you really think that the young prince was truly in love with you?" Lily's sharp words cut through the air amidst the intermittent whimpering of Helena. Their father must be imitating a scarecrow as he silently gazed at his crying daughter with a glaring red mark on her cheeks and Primrose being reprimanded. That was the day Primrose decided to shed away the pretence of an obedient daughter and went full out to showcase exactly what she was. The young miss of a rich family didn't want to be wronged anymore. Despite their objection, she wrote to the Alpha that very same afternoon. The letter was lowkey threatening. Since the family wasn't willing to take her to the banquet, she would go to the palace and explain to them how she was discriminated against for being an Alpha. Ultimately, it would be the Alpha who is implicated for allowing such a practice to prevail. Although the royal family didn't intervene in the lives of the common people, it condoned such oppressive behaviour in name. They wouldn't take action otherwise. But if someone from an influential family as hers were to make an appeal, the uproar from it would be unimaginable. That night, Primrose leaned on the railing above the staircase and heard the Alpha personally deliver the message that she had to be taken to the banquet. Primrose met Helena's vicious eyes and smiled like a blooming rose. The anger in her younger sisters eyes was pleasant like drops of honey falling into her tongue. The night at the banquet was the first time Primrose met the regent. Oh, and the night she would never forget.
