CHAPTER SIXTEEN They walked in silence, the mechanic taking point with an assault rifle wrapped in a blanket tucked under his arm. The other CIA agents had UZIs hidden under their windbreakers. Remi, walking a little behind with Daniel, kept touching the butt of her pistol, hiding under a thin sweater, for reassurance. The driver had called it a town, but it barely qualified as a hamlet. Remi tried to control her breathing as they walked up the darkened country road, leaving the few lights of the bar, convenience store, and about ten houses behind them. The air felt sharp, clean, and cool. Slovenia was a mountainous country and Remi guessed they were at a fairly high altitude.
