Chapter 9Thursday Reed watched Bear clutch the wheel of the GL. He didn’t want to distract him. Traveling over sixty miles per hour on back roads took all of Bear’s concentration. On leaving the office, he didn’t even ask why Bear was running, he followed. All Reed knew was Brian needed Bear and Brian was with Jim. That was enough. The trip took fifteen minutes. Reed looked down at the palm of his hand as they turned into Jim’s drive. There were four oval circles where his nails bit into the flesh of his palm. Bear flew into the house without closing the GL’s door. Reed exited from the passenger door and followed close at his heels. He ran up the three steps to the porch and into the house. The acrid smell of ammonia hit his nostrils and he almost gagged. He regained control of his stoma
