Book One of three.
Mate. She realized it when he broke the kiss and rested his forehead against hers. She felt tears drip onto her forehead. He knew. He knew all this time.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”
Why is he apologizing? Wait.
“You’ve known this entire time? Why did you lie about not finding your mate?” She pulled away from him.
Cal didn’t speak. Just stared at her. Waiting for her to figure it out. It wouldn’t be long now.
“You’ve even been betraying the bond the past three months-“ she stopped. “Oh my-oh my God.” She paused and looked at him incredulously. “You-you’re rejecting me?”
Bingo.
“Am I that…unappealing to you?”
Silence.
“You just want to w***e around? Is that it?”
Nothing.
“What is it, Cal? You couldn’t bare being mated to your best friend? Need your freedom?”
He continued staring at her.
“If that was your plan, why kiss me? Why did you-today-what? Was it your one day to see what life would be like with me? Was it awful for you? Or maybe I intimidate you, too.”
She wasn’t getting anything out of him. He just watched her with a hardened look on his face.
Tears falling, she lunged forward beating her fists at his chest.
“ANSWER ME!”
He grabbed her wrists, maintaining what little composure he had left, he looked her in the eye. “You know the pain of the betrayal is going to set in from the past three months. Unless you want to feel it, you know what needs to be done.”
She didn’t miss a beat, and this cut deep wounds in his already pained heart. She squared her shoulders and composed herself. She wouldn’t appear weak for this. “I, Kaiya Reign Thompson, reject you, Callum Everette Jackson, as my mate. May our bond be severed without regret.”
He felt it. He felt the pain from the rejection. Honestly, he had been feeling the pains for months and thought of himself already numb to most of it. He took a few breaths prolonging the moment as long as possible.
“Do it,” she gritted out.
“I…”
“NOW!” she screamed not caring who heard at this point.
“I, Callum Everette Jackson, reject you, Kaiya Reign Thompson, as my mate. May this bond be severed.”
