Chapter 5 - Present
Harley talked distracted with the young blonde when Elizabeth returned to his side. Smiling politely, she greeted the other wolf who spoke to the Warlock, and the woman easily noticed that she didn't want her there...
"Well, now that your company is back, allow me to go away,"
Katrina said, saying goodbye to them before going across the room, searching for someone who would dance with her tonight, but she made sure to wink at the male, who face soon flushed as wasn't waiting for this action from the She-wolf.
"... Did I... Interrupt something?" Eli immediately asked him, taking her drink from his hand.
"No, you didn't." He answered her, still red as he drank from his cocktail. "She was just asking me if I was alone, and if so, if I wouldn't enjoy dancing with her."
The Warlock told her, clearly trying to change the subject.
It was obvious to the Werewolf that they hadn't only talked about it, based on how the man's features changed as he talked to Katrina, yet, like him, she preferred to pretend no realize it. Talking a little more about something else with Harley before they joined the other couples dancing...
They danced three or four songs, enjoy the old music, or at least, old to Elizabeth before Harley said it would be better for them to have a little break. Pulling the young woman back to the bar, ordering themselves some simple drinks as they spoke about how much fun they were having.
"Don't you usually come to these places?" Harley asked, confused, he believed Eli would go out a lot, based on how some people already knew her in there.
"Not much," she answered him, eating a french fry as she noted that he was waiting for her to complete the answer. "In the past, when I was a teenager, I used to come here as I preferred places like this than the parties that my friends threw, but after my... Ex-fiance, Caleb and I started dating, I rarely would come because he doesn't enjoy dancing so much. "
"Is that possible? Exist someone who doesn't like dance?" Harley noticed her dismay at the mention of the man, so the tone of his voice was more dramatic than necessary even though he remembered about her mentioning about the two left foot, his reaction drew a light giggle from her before keep going.
"Yes, to my sadness, Caleb seemed to have two left foot, so dancing was something we rarely did." See, he wasn't wrong.
"I can imagine how hard it was for you," Harley ordered his third drink of the night, but that was nothing to them, creatures of the supernatural. "My… Mate? She wasn't a good dancer either, I would always let her step on my feet so we could enjoy it more."
"That was so sweet of you." Like the Warlock, the woman ordered another drink for herself. "I used to dance like this with my dad too when I was young, although at the time I wasn't a big fan of dancing and stuff like that, those moments with him were so nice that I enjoyed so much."
"Must be good memories."
"They are. The best ones with my father before him..." Again, sadness dominated her voice.
"... Penelope once told me this was the reason why you joined Mingan." Harley commented, not knowing exactly how it would be the best way to change the subject at that delicate moment.
"Yes, my family lived as a Family Pack until then." She said, taking a sip of her drink. "In fact. It was a friend of my father's, a Sorcerer just like you, who recommended us to find a pack to live with."
The part about he be a Sorcerer, Elizabeth whispered next to the Witch's ear, preventing anyone else, human or not, who was close to hear. Surprising Harley, who hadn't yet told this to anyone else but his brother.
... He was becoming one in the last few years...
"How do you know!" He whispered screamed it, more as a statement than a question to the Wolf who just smiled, ordering another drink for them, but this time something unique to supernatural beings.
"Do you know the best part of this bar beside the old songs?" She asked him but didn't wait for his answer. "Both the owner and the bartenders are supernatural beings, so they have special drinks for our kind here."
What she meant by special drinks was something that would make them drunk a lot easier than Humans drink, as wine and other stuff were almost like juice to them.
"Two glasses of a midnight kiss, moon type please." She asked, specifying that they weren't simple Humans before returning her attention to the Sorcerer. "My father's friend lived with us for six months trying to help him, and I was to one who would always help him while my brother and my mother were out trying to raise some extra money, so, being around him made easier for me to notice the difference between your kind from others. "
"Wow, I didn't expect this," Harley commented laughing, he didn't expect a Werewolf to be able to spot the difference between Witches types just by looking or smelling them.
"But that doesn't mean I know the difference between other kinds of Witches. I just know your brother is a Warlock because everyone in the Pack knows that." Once again, the woman made Harley laugh at her words.
Elizabeth was very different from her best friend. She could be quiet when she wanted, very expressive, and sometimes even with a happy smile on her face, she could be sad, but it was only noticed in her aura, not in her face or words.
"But if you helped him, why didn't you become a doctor? Or a nurse?"
"Exactly because of that!" Her index finger almost touched the Sorcerer's nose when she spoke such words, both already slightly drunk. "I didn't want to live that again, seeing someone slowly die before you is very painful, especially when it's someone you love."
Despite the smile that Harley gave her, the memories of Charlotte's death rushed through his mind, causing him to turn the glass down at once, the burn of the drink being nothing compared to the pain in his heart.
"Charles! Two more, please!" Eli asked the bartender that she had known for years, who reluctantly made the drinks, telling the couple that they had already drunk enough, and they should go now. "C'mon, this is nothing!"
Elizabeth spoke with small chuckles, and although she didn't refuse the sweet poison, she was also starting to agree with the older Werewolf.
"I think we should go now, Elizabeth." For a second, Harley was dizzy as he got up, and now he was sure they had more than enough tonight, be it dancing or drinking.
"Ehhhh!!! But I want to dance more, Harley!" The young woman spoke contradicting the Witch as she followed him, after placing the glass on the counter, not bothering with money, because the man had already paid for both of them. "And it's Eli, Harley! Not Elizabeth, Eli!"
"Ok! Ok, Eli. Let's go." He agreed with her, already outside, putting his jacket over her shoulders, the night was cold even though it was springtime. "It's better we go back now."
Elizabeth didn't say anything to him, just giggled, tucking his jacket over her shoulders, feeling the Sorcerer's sweet scent invade her nose, even though she wasn't a fan of sweets when she was young that was something that had changed in her pregnancy.
Making she think that Harley's scent was extremely pleasing at the moment, though she didn't know if it was his cologne or his natural smell that pleased her so much...
... Or maybe it was a mixture of both...
When Harley suddenly stopped as he walked to the car, the wolf eventually bumped against his back absently, asking him what the problem was, just to be told that they couldn't drive like that.
Harley might look less drunk than Elizabeth, but his condition wasn't much better than hers, the mostly blurred vision proved that to himself, as well as the dizziness he'd fought against since he left the bar.
"I sho-"
"We can stay there," Eli spoke, cutting him off when he would say that he could call his brother to meet them, it would a lot more safe if they waited to he drives them back.
"What?"
"There, we can stay there until we get better." She answered him with little giggles, which didn't match the seriousness of her words, even though she was drunk. "... And sober."
Following Elizabeth's finger, Harley saw to where the She-wolf pointed to...
... On the other side of the road, in this virtually deserted spot between the woods that separated both towns, was an old motel, just like those showed in horror movies...
"C'mon! Let's go!" Elizabeth called him, pulling Harley to the middle of the road, not even noticing the farther hole that made her stumble, almost falling against the asphalt if it wasn't for the arms that quickly held her around the waist. "... Thank you..."
Shyly she thanked him, still turning in the Warlock's arms to look at him, and the sight seemed to have stopped her heart, Harley's eyes seemed to swallow her as the stars enhanced the features of the Latin man who held her, and before she could understand what she was doing...
Elizabeth's lips connected themselves to his.
