CHAPTER TWELVE Remi awoke, sluggish and disoriented, just as the Egyptair plane touched down in Luxor. She and Daniel had spent a frustrating afternoon waiting for the FBI office to open in the U.S., then waiting to get travel approval and booking a flight. It was now the afternoon of the next day, and Remi was still trying to catch up on sleep. She had “crashed,” as the Americans so aptly put it, the previous afternoon, and then had an unproductive evening doing background research on the case that yielded no solid leads, followed by a tossing and turning night while her mind fretted over Cyril and her body insisted it was daytime. At least she got some sleep on the plane. Exhaustion had finally dragged her under, and her body was content once again that it was nighttime in Washington,
