CHAPTER 7

The person who had barged into Damian’s office was Luca. He held up his phone, signaling that there was video and pictorial evidence. Killian froze like a deer caught in headlights. Luca moved to Damian’s table, swiping through his gallery and showing him the surveillance videos and pictures of him transferring the money into a briefcase, before heading home. Damian’s eyes flickered from the screen to his accountant as he was rendered speechless. Damian banged his fist on his desk angrily, standing up, “Who are you doing this dirty work for?” He fumed, pointing at Killian. “Do you want to destroy my company, huh? Do you?” He sneered, shaking his head. “You’re fired, get out of my office,” he said calmly now, his voice low. “I said NOW!” He yelled as Killian scrambled outside. Damian sat back in his chair, running his hands through his hair frustratedly. Thankfully, the accountant had managed to take only 250,000 dollars out of the company’s bank account. It wouldn’t leave a dent, but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t pissed. Killian, who had worked with him for four good years, lied right to his face and denied all the accusations. How could he? He scoffed, turning to look at Luca. “Thank you, Luca.” He expressed gratitude to his friend, watching him nod his head. “No problem at all.” “But, how did you know?” He asked Luca in sheer curiosity. “Someone anonymous from his sector tipped me off yesterday. Said he had been acting weird and on edge all day and wouldn’t let anyone touch his computer. When they finally got in, boom, they found the ledgers.” He elaborated, sighing deeply. “Well, better safe than sorry, I suppose.”He arranged the scattered documents on his table, “We need another accountant now though. Find me a replacement.” He ordered. “Sure, I’ll do that.” He smiled as he waved goodbye to Damian, exiting his office. ** The next day, Luca showed up with a man called Eric, deeming him to be the new accountant. “And you’re sure he’s competent?” Damian asked wanting to be sure. He trusted Luca’s judgment, but after what had happened yesterday, he had to tread lightly. “Well, alright…he can go sort himself in the financial sector.” Damian shooed Eric away with his hand. Eric nodded, carrying his box full of his belongings with him. Back at home, Kiara was missing Luca. She hadn’t spoken to him all day and just needed to hear his voice, or see him, or touch him. She felt like her emotions were getting out of control, but she couldn’t help it. The s*x just made the feelings come on stronger and she wanted to do it over and over again until she couldn’t walk. She brought her phone out and texted him, ‘Hey, I miss you! Xoxo. When do I get to see you again?’ She sighed as the guilt set in. This was wrong, totally wrong. He was way older than her, and he had not one, but two children, Katie and Sam. The realization slowly crept in, weighing Kiara down. It wasn’t as if anyone knew, right? And no one had to know, but it still felt odd having to walk around with that huge secret. What if someone unintentionally found out, just like her mum almost did the other day? How would she explain herself then? She sighed, closing her eyes, lost in thoughts as she leaned back on the couch resting her body. Suddenly, her phone vibrated in her lap and in a split second, she sat back up. It was a picture of Luca, he was in a towel that was loosely wrapped around his waist. Droplets of water were all over his body, and he looked so hot. Underneath was a short message, ‘Wanna come over now? X.’ Kiara sent a short reply, affirming that she indeed was coming over, and then retreated to her bedroom to find what to wear. She didn’t want to look like a slut, but she also didn’t want to look like a 50-year-old mother, so she settled on a short dress with sandals. Although the image that Luca sent insinuated something else, she wasn’t going there for that. She wanted to talk and get to the bottom of how she was feeling and what her ultimate resolve would be. She drove to Luca’s house very slowly, immersed in her thoughts as she did. At some point, she parked by the side of the road, unable to think straight. She waited until she cooled off and was stable enough to get back on the road. Driving in that state could have caused a big accident and she was too young to die. She drove to Luca’s house and once she arrived, she parked and sat in the car for a few minutes, breathing in and out to calm her nerves. She wasn’t fully sure what would transpire between them but she knew she wanted something good to come out of it. When she rang the doorbell, Katie opened the door for her almost immediately. “Hi, Kiara.” She wrapped herself around Kiara, pulling her in for a cozy hug. “Hi, Katie. Oh, you’re so big now.” She chuckled, bending down to look at her more clearly. “Where’s Sam?” She asked, looking around. “On his way down.” Speaking of the devil, Sam hopped down the stairs. “Oh, hi Kiara!” He jumped excitedly as he hugged her as well.” “Hi, my love. How has school been for you both?” She asked, looking up at them. They both looked at each other before replying, “Oh, no big deal,” Katie said as she led the way to the sitting room. “Tell me everything, I want to know everything.” Kiara smiled, pinching their cheeks. “Fine, where do I start? So much has happened that I’ve lost count,” Little Katie said throwing her arms up in exasperation, “I know where to.” “Mhm.” She nodded. “Kiara.” A familiar voice said.
