CHAPTER 8

“Kiara,” Luca said, dressed in a shirt and joggers. “Hey, how are you doing?” “I’m talking to my precious babies right now, leave us alone. They want to spill the beans,” She giggled, turning back to Katie and Sam. “So, Zach Mclaughlin got caught by the teacher, looking into a girl, Amanda's skirt. So, basically they like suspended him for a week because of his provocative behavior.” She laughed, shaking her head, “On the other hand, Sarah and Jack were caught holding hands during recess, and now everyone thinks they’re dating when they aren’t. Sarah also told me that she’s scared that Jack has cooties.” She rolled her eyes. Kiara talked and talked with Katie and Sam, learning about past events that had happened in school amongst other gist. Katie glanced at the clock on the wall beside her, before looking back at Kiara. “Well, Sam and I have to go. We have a picnic to attend,” she stated happily, “Sam, get up!” She nudged him gently. “Oh, where?” Kiara asked, ruffling her brows. It seemed dangerous to let the kids wander on their own, so she considered carrying them. “Well, it’s two houses away from here, so we’d walk, it’s okay. Emma’s parents will be there,” Katie nodded confidently. “Okay, well if you say so.” Kiara nodded. She leaned forward, jiggling her hand around in her purse. She pulled out two 5-dollar bills from her purse, handing them to each sibling. “Oh, thank you, Aunt Kiara!” Katie and Sam both leaped on her in a deathly hug. She rubbed their back soothingly, “Yeah, that’s okay my babies. Now, you guys stay safe, okay?” She warned them sternly, looking them dead in the eyes. A tinge of guilt overcame her, as she observed the two children. How would they feel if they found out that she was involved with a man, their father, twice her age and old enough to even be her father? She shook her head, distracting herself from the anxious thoughts. She forced a smile, patting their heads. “Okay, we promise we will!” Sam said, rushing out of the house with Katie as they slammed the door shut. “Quite a lengthy conversation you guys had, hm?” Luca looked at her, leaning against the doorway with a napkin in his hands. He looked hot today, as usual, his muscles flexing on the shirt clinging to his body. He dropped the napkin and moved closer to her, “I missed you, princess, a lot.” He extended his arms out for a hug. “I missed you too…” she murmured, the corners of her mouth drawn downwards. Her heart dropped as he stood in front of her now. She covered her face with her hands. Luca noticed the sad expression on her face and crouched down in front of her, gently moving her hands away from her face. “What’s wrong, princess?” “Why are you sad? It’s written all over your pretty face.” He frowned, as his eyebrows furrowed. He didn’t like seeing her sad, it felt like a stab in his heart. He cared about Kiara so much that whatever her emotions were reflected off of him. “I don’t think we should continue any longer. This is a bad, terrible idea.” She snorted, rolling her eyes annoyed. It’s all a lot to take in right now. It’s like I’ve been on this high for too long,” She sighed rubbing her temples. “This will hurt our loved ones around us if they ever find out.” “I mean, you have Katie and Sam. I don’t think I’d be able to face them ever again if they found out. They look up to me so much, I’m like a role model to them. This could ruin a lot of things and I’m just scared,” she huffed trying immensely to stop tears from welling up in her eyes. “We should just go back to being how we were before. Maybe that’s all we were ever meant to be.” She finalized, wiping tears off her cheek. Luca stared at her, shaking his head. “Where’s all this coming from sweetheart? I know you’re scared. You don’t think I am too?” He looked at her quizzically. “It’s been so long since I’ve felt this giddy about a woman, not since my ex-wife. You’re like a blessing to me.” He held her hands lovingly, “I lose control whenever I’m around you. And I love it just that way. Darling, please. Just trust me on this, we’ll be fine.” She squinted her eyes, “How are you so calm and collected about this? What gives you the assurance that we’ll be fine? Jesus Christ, it’s like you don’t understand a word I’m trying to say,” she yelled at him, angrily. “I do, I really do. And I’m trying my best to make things work out. It’s been a while, I’m a bit rusty when it comes to romance because it has been a while, but I want you. You know this, and I’d do anything to keep us together.” Kiara couldn’t think straight, her head was hot, and she had to stand up and start pacing around the room. “You aren’t worried about what people will say? Or how they’ll react if they find out you’re dating a lady you could literally give birth to?” “No, Kiara. As long as it’s me and you, who cares what they say? I’ve told you before, and I’ll keep saying it over and over until you believe me—I want you!” He grasped her cheek. “No, let’s stop, let’s end this relationship right here, right now. This is where our story ends. End of the road for us now,” she laughed, “Otherwise, we’re literally calling out for mass destruction.” “Ah!” She clenched her fists, sniffling as tears flowed down her face harder than before. “Wait, you think we’re in a relationship?” He laughed heartily as if she had just cracked a funny joke, “Darling, we were never in one, what are you talking about?”
