I shuddered in fright as I began to recount the incidents of the nightmare that just passed. The room had fallen silent, Luciana and Ethan seemed lost in deep thought as their faces contorted into different expressions as I watched the both of them keenly.
I gulped as I kept on trying as hard as I could to suppress the tears from running down my cheeks. I couldn’t show how weak I was in front of them, I had to toughen up like I always had whenever I was bullied in high school. I had to wait out the storm coming and face whatever obstacle life would throw my way.
I cradled my stomach, feeling worried about my unborn child. If I didn’t know how to protect myself, how was I going to protect him?
I felt Luciana’s hands on my shoulder, jolting me out of my daydreaming as I turned to face her. I smiled fondly at her as she sat next to me, her presence offering a comforting solace to my frightened self. She gently stroked my hair, soothing me with every gentle touch. I couldn’t help it any longer as I broke into sobs.
“Shh, my dear, it's alright. I’m here now. You had a very terrible dream and you’re scared that something bad is going to happen to you very soon, don’t you?”
I nodded, tears streaming down my cheeks.
My voice was trembling as she tried to explain the horrors that had plagued her sleep. I didn’t know how to start, there was no possible way to explain how empty and deserted I felt, it was like I was suffocating and trying to clutch at air but I failed.
“It was so scary, Luciana. I know I had relieved it before, twice even but it felt new tonight. It was like I hadn’t been through the previous episodes before, the pain was raw and when they severed our bond, I could feel my heart shatter into pieces all over again.”
“Oh, sweetheart, I'm so sorry you had to experience such a frightful dream.” Luciana began in a soothing voice, as she continued to stroke my hair reassuringly. “But remember, not all dreams aren't real. They're like movies playing in our minds while we sleep.”
I opened my mouth to argue. “But—“
“I understand you, child.” Luciana smiled, cutting her short.
“I do but what I am certain of is that not all visions are as seen, they sometimes have a different meaning to what meets our eye. The past cannot repeat itself and that was what your nightmare was about tonight, I would say you were only relieving what could’ve been the happiest moment of your life and what was the saddest moment of your life as well too.”
I clung to her, seeking solace in her embrace.
Luciana continued to speak, her voice steady and filled with love.
“Dreams can sometimes feel very real, my dear, but they're not a reflection of the world around us. They're like shadows passing through our thoughts, sometimes showing us things we fear. But just like shadows, they can't hurt us.”
I sniffled, my sobs subsiding as I listened to her comforting words. It was just what I needed to make me feel better and lighter from the load I carried with me.
I looked up at Luciana, my eyes still filled with lingering fear and doubt.
“But what if the bad things from my dream come true? What if they find me? I know I’ve been through it before and the past doesn’t repeat itself but what if it means something else? Something worse than I have already been through?”
Luciana cupped my face, her touch gentle yet firm, conveying a sense of strength and protection.
“My darling, you have a strong spirit within you. You are brave, and you have the power to overcome any fear that tries to hold you back. Dreams might show us scary things, but they don't determine our reality.” Luciana smiled at me.
We shape our destinies and from now on, I want you to think about positive things only. You have a child within you now and that’s all you should care about, being strong for your pup. Nothing else matters.”
I smiled into her eyes, finding solace and reassurance in their depths as I could see the wisdom etched on her face.
Luciana continued to smile at me as she spoke even further, her voice filled with unwavering confidence.
Remember, Arielle, you have a beautiful life ahead of you. I don’t know what direction you came from and how harshly you were treated in the Silver pack but right now, under this roof, you’re surrounded by people who care for you deeply. We'll always be here to keep you safe, to guide you through life's ups and downs as you become your own woman.”
My trembling slowly subsided, replaced by a sense of peace and security. Luciana’s words resonated within me, casting away the remnants of the nightmarish dream.
“Thank you for taking me in and treating me like one of your own. I feel better now, knowing that I have someone like you in my corner. I'm grateful for you and Ethan.” I said, stealing a glance at Ethan who sent a small smile my way.
Luciana smiled warmly at me before pressing a gentle kiss on my forehead.
“You're welcome, sweet child. Always remember, even in the darkest moments, love and courage will light the way. If there’s anything you ever need, please, do not hesitate to tell either of us.”
I nodded, wiping my eyes with the back of my hand as I took a deep breath, allowing the serenity of the moment to wash over me before settling back into bed, hoping the horrors that once plagued my sleep wouldn’t return.
