Chapter 10
Life is good. Things have been going great at work and home. After a few uneventful weeks, things are starting to look good for our future. The wedding plans are coming on great. Donna has been helping find the perfect dress and Trent reluctantly helped with choosing the flowers and cake. He says it is my choice on what we have but I need him to have some input, it is his wedding too. We had decided together that it was not to be a big wedding, as I don’t have family apart from Liz and Danny and any friends I have are mutual friends of Trents.
I’m currently sitting at the dining table, trying to sort out the seating plan for the meal. About 25 guests for the meal and about 50 for the evening reception. Evening guests mainly some employees from the company and some business associates that Trent has known for years. “Need a hand baby?” Trent asks as he comes in from the kitchen with a pot of coffee and some cakes. “Yeah, not sure where to put some of your family?” I tell him as I shuffle the seating plan around to show him. “Well, Uncle Joe and Aunt Vi have just not long divorced, have the replied to the invite yet?” he asks as he looks at the list of names that have replied. “Yeah, they both have replied and both bringing a plus one. That might be awkward, should we put them on different sides of the hall?” I ask as I shuffle the name tags about to cater for this. “Might be best.” He says as he sips his coffee.
I take a deep breath to try to relax myself with all this stress and the smell of the coffee makes my stomach flip. “What type of coffee is that, it smells different?” I ask Trent as I have the sudden sicky feeling. Scrunching up my nose at the awful smell. “Just the normal coffee babe.” Trent tells me as he takes another sip. “No it smells different” I tell him as I rush out of the dining room and head to the bathroom to throw up. After a few minutes I rinse my mouth and wash my face, to try lift the nausea feeling. “Sweetie, are you ok?” Trent asks as he enters the bathroom with a glass of water. “Not sure, the smell of the coffee made me sick” I tell him as I sip my water. Heading back to the dining room, I notice that Trent has taken the coffee pot and cups away, no longer able to smell it. We get stuck into the seating plan. Once we have fitted all the guests in, making sure that those in the family will not have to sit beside anyone they don’t get on with, we head to the lounge to snuggle and watch some tele, waiting for Aiden and Donna to arrive with dinner.
“You feeling better, sweetie?” Trent asks as he snuggles me closer to his side. “Yeah, fine now. Totally weird early though” I tell him. Not completely convincing myself, don’t think he was convinced either.
Donna and Aiden soon arrive with dinner. We are all sitting around the dinning table talking and have a great laugh. Aiden telling me about some of the family that are attending the wedding. About why Uncle Joe and Aunt Vi divorced. Apparently, after 25 years of marriage and 5 kids and a few grandkids they fell out of love but the divorce didn’t end well. It might get awkward at the wedding but Trents parents have promised that they will get involved if any drama happens. I’m not worried about it, I will be enjoying myself on my special day.
After dinner, Trent goes to bring the tea through, “No coffee?” Aiden asks in surprise when Trent places the teapot on the table. “The coffee smell made Avery sick earlier” he tells them and Donnas head snaps up to look at me. “Avery!” she gasps, slapping her hand over her mouth. “What?” I ask, confused by her reaction. “Its only coffee, I’m not sure why I was sick. It was so sudden, I’ve been fine since” I tell her, still confused by the way she is looking at me. “Really?, nothing else making you feel nauseous?” she asks looking straight at me, ignoring the looks Aiden and Trent are giving her. “I don’t think there is anything else. Why?” I ask her looking at Trent and Aiden for some help. I think Donna has lost it. “I remember when my sister found out that she was pregnant that the smell of coffee made her sick” she says as she pours herself a cup of tea. “Pregnant?” I shout out. I look at Trent and he is pale. Like ghost white. “I’m not pregnant” I state as I calmly pour my tea. “Are you sure?” Trent asks as he kneels at my side taking my hand in his. “No, I’m not.” I say as tears roll from my eyes. I lift my head to look him in the eye, he has a small grin on his face. “Why are you grinning? This is serious” I shout as I jump up from the table and run to our room.
They all follow me upstairs, Trent comes and sits beside me on the bed. “Baby, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. But Donna might be right, we have to check to make sure.” He says as he pulls me into a hug. He squeezes me tightly, to calm me down. “I cant be a mom, I’m not mom material” I sob into his shirt. “Sweetie, lets get a test and check first before you get too worked up” Donna says, as she and Aiden head out to the pharmacy to get some tests. Trent and I sit and calmly talk about the possibility of having a baby. “We will work this out together baby, ok? We are getting married anyway, babies would be coming into the equation eventually. Maybe a bit earlier than we had thought, but its not the end of the world” he says soothingly in my ear. I have now stopped sobbing and go to the bathroom to wash my face.
Donna and Aiden come back after half hour, hand me a bag with 3 tests inside. I go to the bathroom to do the business, I tell you peeing on the tiny sticks is not an easy job. Luckily, I managed, and I don’t make mess. I leave the tests on the side of the sink unit, set my alarm for 5 minutes on my phone and go to the bedroom to find Trent standing looking out the window. I walked up behind him and wrap my arms around his waist. “I’m scared” I whisper into his back. He turns around and pulls me to his chest, kissing my temple. “We will work it out” he says running his hand up and down my back to sooth me. We stand for five minutes as the alarm on my phone starts to beep. We walk to the bathroom hand and hand, standing looking at all 3 tests. All read positive. “We are having a baby” Trent screams at the top of voice and lifts me up and starts spinning me around. Donna and Aiden come running into the bathroom after hearing Trent scream. “What, what happened?” Donna shouts over Trent and I giggling. Eventually he stops spinning us around, places me on the floor. “We are having a baby” he screams again. As Aiden and Donna come into the bathroom to congratulate us. Party in the bathroom, why not?
