“General Loid.”
I followed Loid outside, and Melinda did the same, but when we reached the door, his soldiers blocked me, while Melinda passed through.
“Hey, why is she allowed to pass while we’re not?” My maid, Choco, voiced her discontent.
But no one paid attention to us.
Melinda stood facing Loid. She took out a small cardboard box, then carefully handed it over:
“This is a cake I made, nothing precious, but I hope you’ll accept it. Please take care of Luna Fiona. She is truly a kind-hearted person, incapable of doing anything against her conscience or morals...”
Before Melinda could finish her sentence, Loid accepted the box of cake, “Alright, I’ll remember.” Then he promptly left.
Watching his departing figure, I felt a mix of complex emotions.
...
“Men, when faced with a situation where their wife betrays them, are prone to losing their composure and easily believe others, prone to making wrong judgments. Miss, why don’t you go find Beta? I’m sure he’s calmer now. Explain things to him.”
Choco had said that to me, and now I’m on my way to find my father.
I don’t believe my father would abandon my mother like that. Normally, my father loves my mother very much. He just momentarily trusted outsiders. Anyone in that situation would lose control. My father is no exception. Surely that’s the case.
I arrived at the door to my father’s office and was about to knock when, at that moment, a servant passed by and said:
“Miss, are you looking for Beta? He’s with Prince Damian in the office, not in his room.”
Damian hasn’t left yet? It’s good that he’s here. I will plead with him to help my mother, even if it’s not much. At least it will avoid Loid’s torture.
Loid has always been notorious for his brutal and terrifying torture methods. The prisoners under his command couldn’t bear it and confessed everything.
Quickly, I stood in front of his office, raised my hand to knock on the door, then at that moment, a sentence from inside made my hand freeze in mid-air.
“What!? Are you planning to kill her?”
Usually, my father’s office is well soundproofed. If the person inside doesn’t raise their voice, no one outside can hear.
That voice... it’s Damian’s.
My hand froze, or in other words, my whole body froze. A chill ran down my spine to the top of my head. I trembled.
What did he just say? Is my father planning to kill someone? Is she in his words my mother?
I swallowed the saliva, trying to keep myself calm, then pressed my ear against the door.
My ears are sharp, and my senses are even sharper than normal people’s. That’s why I could hear the conversation inside, albeit faintly.
“Yes, she knows too much now, and besides, there’s no guarantee she won’t break under pressure and confess everything. Right now, Yuri is her weakness. It’s easy for Loid to see that. If Loid uses Yuri to threaten her, things will get worse...”
That’s my father’s voice.
I couldn’t believe what my father just said was real.
Tears flowed uncontrollably from my eyes. I couldn’t control them. I covered my mouth with my hand, trying not to make a sound. I couldn’t stand anymore. I collapsed to the ground.
My father wants to kill my mother, so the one Sharon is truly related to is him and Damian. He’s planning a coup, and my mother is just his scapegoat.
Where’s the father I know? This isn’t my father. How could my father be such a ruthless and cruel person?
I couldn’t believe it.
My heart felt like it was being squeezed so tight I couldn’t breathe. My breathing became more difficult than ever.
At that moment, from inside the room, my father’s voice rang out again:
“Tonight, I’ll arrange for a fire at the prison. That way Luna Fiona will die in an accidental incident. The clue will be covered up. Loid won’t be able to investigate anything anymore.”
Arson? He... is truly heartless.
I’m frantic. He wants to kill my mother. I have to save her.
I don’t need material things, luxury, or anything else. I just need my mother. After rescuing her, I’ll take her to another pack. I don’t want to stay here anymore.
Dizzy, I quickly run outside. Subconsciously, my feet lead me to the national prison.
I arrive when Loid isn’t here. I bribe the guard, then sneak in.
This is the first time I’ve set foot here. It’s colder and scarier than I imagined. On either side of the corridor are the cells designed like tiger cages with iron bars on the outside, woven together into small squares. Inside, no one is calm. Some are moaning, some are cursing, some are just sitting quietly, staring blankly outside.
I tremble as I walk. Although I asked the guard for my mother’s cell number, I still feel lost when I enter, not knowing which way to go.
“Mother... mother...”
Out of sheer panic and not knowing what else to do, I’m afraid all the time, afraid someone will appear. I call out for my mother as I walk and scan my surroundings.
Then, at that moment, my call was suddenly answered by a familiar voice.
“Yuri, Yuri...”
It’s my mother’s voice. My ears perk up. I’ve determined her direction. I’m relieved, but as I step forward to quickly run ahead, my wrist is suddenly grabbed, and my whole body is pulled backward. And I bump into someone’s chest.
“Who let you in here!?”
A familiar scent emerges, and I know it’s Loid.
Why is he appearing now, at this exact moment? It seems I’m only a few steps away from my mother, but it seems fate wants to stop me.
Loid’s appearance is so timely...
“I... I came to visit my mother. I’m worried about her.”
I answer truthfully, but Loid seems not to notice. He lets go of me and says:
“Get out.”
Of course, at this moment, the wise thing I shouldn’t do is resist. I bow my head, obediently walking out.
He walks right behind me.
But having come this far, am I going to give up so easily? My arm furtively pulls out an iron stick from inside my clothes. This is the tool I prepared to pick the lock. And then, I spin around, wielding the stick wanting to stab Loid in the neck.
