Hayfah was silently prowling to their theatre hall, she was a bit late, that made her prowled with a bit speed. She almost bumped into someone, petrifiedly looking up; her gaze fell on Fareeha, her bestfriend.
She squealed, and hugged her without hesitation. "Fareerah! Ya Allah!, I've missed you so much. You didn't tell me you're studying here," Hayfah jabbered, breaking their hug. Her husky voice echoing in the hallway.
Fareeha smacked her playfully, a wide grin plastered on her lips. She was worried about her, she didn't know wether she gained admission or not. But seeing her today, with a happy expression gladened her heart. "You Mumu, how would I tell you? When just a mere phone you don't have. I've missed you tho," Fareeha spoke teasingly and hugged her again.
"Ohh! I totally forgot, Abba gave me his phone, but I didn't have your number. So__I'm late for classes now, let's meet later please. I'm in Ribadu hostel, Block C, room 34," Hayfah reiterated, practically wandering off.
"You're always that serious student I knew. I'm having class too, but wait__are you by any chance in Business administration department?" Fareeha inquired, widening her eyes, as a glint of hope engulfed her heart.
"Yes I am. And you?" Hayfah questioned back.
"Oh my god! Allah has answered my prayers," Fareeha jabbered and hugged Hayfah tightly.
"We're studying the same course? God! Fareeha I couldn't be more elighted. Let's move fast, you know it's my first lecture, I don't want to be late," Hayfah enunciated and slowly dragged felicitious Fareeha.
They finished their lecture, of which Fareeha was talking ceaselessly, always distracting Hayfah. Hayfah felt gazes on her since in the theatre hall, but she choosed to ignore it, as she wasn't ready for any humiliation, that's why she hadn't reply to Fareeha's blabbings with a full sentence, only 'Uhm', 'okay', 'yeah', and 'eyyah'.
She was walking side by side with Fareeha, Hayfah was staring vacantly at the humungous university, when she felt a warm breathe so close to her ears, she abruptly turned, her infuriated gaze falling on the notorious-like guy.
She hissed amd grisped Fareeha's hand in fear, flashing her the 'help me look'. Fareeha grisped back her hand and looked at the guy, with his squad encircling them.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing? Wasn't there enough way for you to pass? Excuse us please," Fareeha tattled, glaring at him with her mirthy orbs.
The guy snorted, and blocked their way, his hands in his chained-jean's pocket. "Hey young lady, we're not here because of you; rather because of the queen-like lady. So shut your mouth off, miss," he spoke sneeringly, flashing Hayfah a flirting smile, of which she reciprocated with a grimaced look.
"Uhm__So young lady, would you tell me your name? And atleast were you reside? For visitation purposes uno," he flashed her his yellowish teeth, and winked.
He was moderate in height with a plump structure. He was ugly but fair in complexion, and has big lips with full eyebrows. His nose was short like a nicker.
"Mister! Couldn't you see? She's not into you. As you've said, she's a queen-like lady. And you look like nothing but a beggar, a street homeless one," Fareeha bellowed angrily, glaring at him.
He got infuriated, how dare this girl call him a beggar? Did she know he is? Does she knows that he's capable of dismissing her from this school? She surely is in for it, and he must have this queen-like lady.
Without hesitation, he slapped Fareeha across the face. Hayfah's eyes bulged out like a saucers. She kept looking between him and aphonic Fareeha, whom held her cheek with an equivocal expression plastered on her face. Hayfah knew when to intervene, no matter how she wouldn't want them to hear her voice.
She slapped him back, and spoke in a chafed and piqued tone. "Who do you think you are? How dare you lay that filthy hand of yours on her face? Do you by any chance knows something called__manners? I guess you don't have it at all. You should know the type of girls you're dealing with, such a mannerless person you're!" She bellowed indignantly, rolling her eyes; brimful of wrath. She was astounded as to how her voice came with a threatening and confidential tone.
Before he could reply, she held Fareeha by the shoulder and moves forward, halting when they were close to him, "We need to pass young man. Incase you're so prosy not to fathom what we're doing," Hayfah taunted, her eyes emoting how angry she was.
She thought he would retaliate in an irated tone, but his action was intrusive. He started laughing hysterically, his g**g ensuing. She looked askance at him, she doesn't need to be told of why they were laughing, she knew because they heard her voice, but it's now inevitable.
Suddenly, her Betty's words started floating in her brain, she needed to stand strong, she has a life to live too. She hissed and dragged quiescent Fareeha to the way, but he halted her by grisping her hand; of which she flashed him a hazardous look.
"So__that's why you couldn't talk huh? Ya Allah! What an omission in perfection! See how beautiful, curvey, and alluring you look. But the voice is repugnant, it sounds like a dog bark, and as husky as a generator sound. So sorry, Queen-like girl, I could sense who's a beggar now. For you have to beg for you to be loved," he encapsulated superciliously, with a tone of sarcasm.
Hayfah felt the urge to screech and yell, letting her tears fall by the way. But she knew she has to be strong, and look like his words hadn't hurt her. You need to be strong, Hayfah. You have to be zealous.
She looked at him, with a fleeting smile on her lips. "Young mister! Me being a masterpiece; makes me perfect in my imperfections. Having a husky voice wasn't a flaw to be deplorable about, for the body that displays the husky voice was the first thing that got you stocked. And for the love thingy__it's so unfortunate, that a guy has been all glum about me, hoping to take a glimpse of the angel-like lady in front of you. So mind you__I was created like this, and it's a blessing in disguise. Now, would you give us way? You ugly b*tch," she bellowed angrily, taking all the might in her not to burst out.
He opened his mouth to retaliate, but procrastinated; as the saliva she spurted got directly into his mouth. She smiled triumphantly and dragged Fareeha, before they sprinted off.
He stood there, unable to make a move nor could he think of what to do. His boys brought him water, he rinsed his mouth and muttered "We'll meet again," enigmatically.
Hayfah and Fareeha were half-walking, half-running; when they bumped into someone, Hayfah falling in his chest, which caused an electrifying feeling in her body.
Before she could hold onto herself, he shrugged her off; roughly, and yelled "What kind of nonsense is this, are you by any chance in secondary school again? What were you thinking to just run around in a university? Such irresponsible ladies you're," he spatted angrily, glaring at befuddled Hayfah, for he has also felt the shock.
"We're sorry please! Why are people so inconsiderate!" Hayfah's husky voice bellowed, as she stood up from the ground, dusting her body.
"Will you keep shut? How dare you talk to me like that? With that husky voice of your's. Don't be a ninny, learn some manners of talking, young girl," he retaliated, as she looked up; their eyes met.
She gasped in shock, is it really him? Or she is hallucinating? "You?" She smiled widely, forgetting about what she intended to retaliate, she was happy that she could see him again.
"Who is you? Abeg! Don't be a creepy-crawly girl. I'm not like those guys you think of, so mind your language and make way for me to pass," he snarled, getting pissed off with her intense look.
Ohh! She gasped. It wasn't him, he couldn't be the one, it must be someone else. "Okay mister, I will make way for__that is because I too have a place to be, than to exchange words with an imperious person like you. And for that word, you looked like someone I knew, albeit he's a benevolent person, I couldn't have abated him to think you was him.
For your words of my husky voice__have you ever been in an islamic school? Or by any chance comes across something called 'creation'? Even on street banners? I guess you didn't. So__I was created like this, and surely; it's a blessing in disguise. I'm done here, you can pass," she articulated in a harsh tone, hissed and walked off; majestically.
He got astounded, this was the first time a lady ignored his handsomeness and snarled at him, it was the first time a lady spoke in such a harsh tone with irksome words. He looked at the path she followed, nodded his head enigmatically and sauntered off.
***
Adyan has been crest fallen since he saw them, he hardly smile genuinely, nor could he laugh wholeheartedly. All his time had been wasted on thinking about her, the smile and look she flashed to that guy was__always piercing through his heart.
He didn't heard when the door creaked ajar and Mom entered his room, despondently. She tapped his shoulder; which jolted him out of his trance, he looked at her, smiled fleetingly and rested his head on her laps.
She stroked his trimmed curly hair with her hand before she spoke "What happened to my dear Adyan? What made you down hearted? What has been tormenting you all these day? Do you want to visit Kassim? You can go now before it's time for your flight. You don't want to go for the business study anymore? We can cancel everything. But this new you is detrimenting my heart. Your Sorella mia, missed her jocund Amore," She whimpered, stroking his hair woefully.
He stood up and held her hands in his, with a warm smile on his lips. "Sorella mia, I too didn't like this new Adyan. It hurts to he always ruminative, the heart always yearning for someone you knew wouldn't be yours. I have no chance, I can't control the heart. It hurts to see you hurting," he slurred and rested his head on her shoulder.
"Who is she?" Was all Mom could utter, with a grin plastered on her lips. She had been longing for this day, she had always wanted her Adyan to find someone he could love.
"Her name is, Hayfah Talhah Muhammad. She lives in Zaria," he elaborated the whole story to Mom, how they met, her graduation day, the accident day, when he last saw her with another guy, how he felt and every single detail. His mood has lighten up a bit, just the mention of her name could embed a wide grin on his lips.
Mom was looking at him fascinatingly, it was a sight to behold, as her son was telling her the story of his__girlfriend; to be said. She could smile when it comes to the happy moments, and could grimace when it comes to the sad.
He finished with a sigh, "Mom, it's not like I love her or something, it just that I want to see her always, and thinking of her with another guy hurts. Don't misinterpret, I knew you so well," he laughed at her pouted lips.
"It seems my Amore would soon become someones Amore, poor me. I'm already jealous of this lucky girl, that has unlocked, entered, locked and threw away the key to my Amore's heart," Mom encapsulated, hugging him tight.
He pouted amidst her embrace,"Sorella mia, I've told, I'm not in love, it just that__how would I put it? And she has someone else sef," he choked the last words.
"It's okay, Amore. Go get your bathe, you have a flight to catch. We will talk about how to get her back__aren't we the love gurus? Even Williams Shakespeare has to salute," she extolled, amd pushed him towards the bathroom.
He entered with a hysterical laugh "That's why Dad couldn't even look at other ladies. You have to teach Hayfah all those secrets, Sorella Mia. Dad indeed is lucky to have a lover woman," he swiftly closed the bathroom door with a hearty laugh, it was good talking to her.
A triumphant smile plastered on her lips, she has finally brought the old Adyan back, it was a truimp to be suave of.
