Stepping into the bathtub, Kayleen sunk into the warm water. It was relaxing but nowhere near Kingston’s warmth that she experienced last night. Waking up in the arms of a man had been surprising for her, especially when that man was her soulmate. It was very unexpected that a lycan shared a bed with a she-wolf. They were known for acknowledging the werewolves were insignificance.
Kayleen slowly poured the water on her shoulder. Closing her eyes, she remembered how much larger Kingston’s body was than hers when he held her that morning. Even though his eyes were closed, his handsome face still held dominance and authority that had softened in her presence.
His arms had been protective, even in sleep he stubbornly embraced her as if he could bury her into the warmth of his chest. Kayleen had a hard time slipping out of the bed without disturbing him.
“I still smell like him,” she ran her hand gently over her neck as her cheeks flushed. His effect on her wolf was so positive that it was the first time she slept well in days and her barely present wolf showed no signs of depression.
‘I never knew Lycan Prince Kingston was into us,’ Ebbe’s voice pulled Kayleen out of her thoughts about Kingston. She found her wolf peering up at her from the surface of the water in the bathtub.
“It’s surprising to me as well,” Kayleen admitted while unconsciously touching her lips.
Childhood memories were vague in her mind, but for as long as she could remember, Kingston would not get within a hundred meters' range of her. She had no memory of them talking to each other either. His gaze had always been empty, emotionless, and indifferent whenever it landed on her, which had led Kayleen to believe that he disliked her. Yesterday’s events seemed to indicate otherwise.
He had been the one to initiate physical contact, he did not seem to hesitate when kissing a married woman, and then confessed about his hard on. Kayleen’s heart had jumped out of her chest when she felt his bulging c**k, but pretended not to understand.
‘He came to visit King Basil’s residence like you predicted. He made his move towards us and it gave us a golden opportunity to get him. Why did you change your mind and leave?’ Ebbe inquired. Time was slipping through Kayleen's fingers like sand. Her blood had lost its healthy red color, leaving her condition worse than before.
“It’s okay. One has to let the kite loose if you want to take a long flight,” Kayleen smiled, getting out of the bathtub.
‘But…’
“I know what I am doing,” Kayleen cut Ebbe off, wrapping a towel around her body, then exited the bathroom only to be surprised by the person in her room.
“Kingston!” Kayleen exclaimed, immediately clutching her chest in an attempt to stop her crazed heartbeat. The Lycan Prince was leaning against the wall. His long legs were crossed, both hands tucked in his pockets, and eyes shining at the sight of the beauty before him. The little white towel gave him a perfect view of her long smooth legs. It did not cover much, but it still bothered him as it managed to hide her precious assets. His brown eyes trailed the water that rolled down from her slender neck to her cleavage.
Kingston forgot to breathe when he imagined how soft those perfect round mounds would feel in his hands.
“Dry your hair before you catch a cold,” Kingston advised, handing her another towel. Kayleen nodded.
“How did you get in…” her eyes were filled with so many questions.
“The doors were open,” he pointed. Kayleen peeked over his shoulders, finding the main door and her room’s door were wide open.
“I forgot,” she mentally slapped herself. She had to remember that Gert was no longer there to do these things.
“Putting clothes on too?” Kingston asked, tucking her behind her hair. Kayleen c****d her brows.
“Oh…” she covered her chest. Her face turned in red shame at being so exposed. She had been so surprised earlier that she forgot about her state of dress. She shot Kingston a meaningful look. Kingston slowly turned on his heel to leave the room to meet with Nate in the hallway.
“Lycan Prince, isn't this Princess Kayleen’s residence?” Nate was confused and surprised. He needed to report an urgent matter to Kingston as soon as possible, but Nate had not been able to find him at Basil’s home. After being ignored at least fifty times via mind-link, when he successfully received Kingston’s reply and came to visit him at his current location, Nate was surprised to learn that it was a werewolf princess’ residence.
“Get to the point,” Kingston cutoff the inquiry. “You have five minutes.”
“It’s about my investigation into Alpha Prince Wallace and his soulmate Omega Anne,” Nate began to speak in haste. “Whatever the rumors say about Alpha Prince Wallace are true. Princess Kayleen and Prince Wallace were childhood friends that fell in love, then married. They separated because the Prince found his soulmate. He is just following his heart as both he and his wolf are head over heels in love with their soulmate, so he easily set aside the Princess. Though Omega’s case seems interesting. She was once Princess Kayleen’s maid.”
“A maid?” Kingston raised his brows. The jump from maid to mistress was quite amusing.
“Yes, a maid who served the Princess for more than eight years. I learned that the princess treated her very well and had brought Anne with her as part of her dowry. That’s the reason Wallace was able to recognize Anne as his soulmate when she turned eighteen on the night of the wedding,” Nate explained.
Kingston recalled how Wallace had accused Kayleen of swimming in the freezing cold lake just to gain his attention, when in reality he was never there to witness the act. Kingston never believed that she had willingly gone in. It only indicated that someone else had fed Wallace the false information and the way he easily devoured it without hesitation indicated who was behind it.
“What a mutt, leaving a diamond for dirt?” Kingston grumbled with a shake of his head.
Nate’s ears perked up and his eyes shone particularly over one word. Had his master just referred to a woman as a diamond? It was perfectly clear to him who he had been calling dirt, so he did not care about that. So the diamond he mentioned was Princess Kayleen!!
“Don't tell me you rushed over here to tell me this ‘important’ information?” Kingston shot Nate a sideways glance.
“Actually, the Alpha Prince’s Beta has visited King Basil’s residence once again today with a letter from the Alpha Prince. He was sent many times, it got to the point that I could no longer ignore him. The Alpha Prince wants to have a meeting with you,” he reported, passing a letter to Kingston.
Kingston glanced at the letter where he learns of Wallace’s intentions to get in Kingston’s graces for his own future profit.
“The Alpha Prince has invited you to get together for evening tea. He is in a hurry, so he wishes to visit you personally at your current location….” Nate started to speak but bit his tongue as he witnessed Kingston tossing the letter in the trash bin.
“Lycan Prince,” Nate gasped. A letter with a royal seal could not be treated that poorly!
“Visit me personally where I currently am?” Kingston sneered. He was in Kayleen’s home, which meant Kayleen was going to see Wallace! “Don’t let that bastard get anywhere within a hundred meters of this residence,” Kingston ordered.
Nate swallowed hard at Kingston’s hostile glare over Wallace. Why would the Prince guard the Princess' residence? Refusing to allow her ex-husband entrance?
“I understand!” Nate nodded in confusion, only to find a beautiful woman standing in the distance down the hall. She looked like one of the princesses but those innocent blue eyes gave away her identity as Princess Kayleen, the woman he had heard the rumors about. While Nate was lost in his admiration, Kingston took Kayleen away.
“Why is the Lycan Prince here in my house?” Kayleen asked. Kingston instantly stopped. He never bothered to think of an excuse. After managing Basil’s care, his only aim had been to follow Kayleen.
“You forgot your handkerchief with me,” he passed her the white silk fabric square that had been washed clean.
“Oh…” Kayleen smiled, taking it back.
Nate blinked at their backs a couple of times, his eyes widened at Kayleen, daring to walk alongside Kingston. Their shoulders touched from time to time. She called his master by his given name and his master did not react at all. Rather, he kept looking in her direction, the corner of his lips slightly rising at her words.
“What the f**k!” Nate gasped in realization. “The Lycan Prince is interested in Princess Kayleen!!” His heart threatened to burst in his chest. The reason for the Prince's intentions behind keeping Alpha Prince Wallace away from the Princess' residence became clear to him.
