Chapter 5

Mimi

"This one tastes good try this" I said pushing the testing plate towards Jane.

"Ya it's really good. I'm so confused now. I like the red velvet with vanilla cream and I also like chocolate with cream cheese filling" She said evidently confused.

"We can get both if you want" I suggested.

"Can you make a two tire cake with red velvet on the bottom and chocolate on the top?" I asked the baker.

"That will be done. Don't worry about that. If you would tell me the theme then we can proceed with the design" she asked.

Jane has decided to make her wedding grand, like really grand with 250 guest. They have booked a whole cruise for their wedding and reception. She wanted Peonies and Shenzhen Nongke orchid which would compliment her summer Vintage blink theme.

After few hours we were done with the cake and headed towards the dress store.

Jane has already selected her dress and was waiting for the fitting so it was just the bridesmaid dress we needed.

"How about royal blue?" she asked.

"Let's just keep it simple. The colour shouldn't be overpowering your dress. You need to be the centre of attention" I said. She blush with my comment which was really new.

Jane was always the rough and tough girl. She liked to be intimidating but now when I see her, she is quite different. She is calm and shy and even blushes. Gabi did a great job at emphasizing this side of Jane.

"Let's check some pink then" she suggested and we walked towards those rack.

As I was searching through the dresses, suddenly I saw a reflection of a man in black suit and glasses peeking inside the store. It seems like he was searching for someone and was failing miserably due to the mannequins.

I pushed that thought aside and searched a little bit more. I was selecting the third dress when Jane came towards me and handed me five more dress.

"You should try them on now. Ella and Sandra will be here soon" she said.

"Who?"

"They are my colleague c*m friends c*m bridesmaid. They were there when I missed you" she said the last part with a pout.

"But now that you are here I'm so freaking happy. I'm getting married to Gabriel and my maid of honor will be you as we planned. I can't wait for your wedding" she said with excitement.

But that left me feeling uncomfortable. I didn't know what to say so I excused myself and went to the changing room.

I tried few dresses but nothing suited Jane's taste. Jane's colleague joined us after an hour.

"Hey let's try some of the green shades" Ella suggested.

"Why don't we try teal?" Sandra said showing a light teal colour knee length dress.

Jane and I just sat down on the couch and waited for the ladies. They came out with two beautiful dresses. Ella with a light blue long sleeve knee length dress and Sandra with a sweet heart neckline teal color toe length dress.

"I liked the blue one. It will look so good with my white dress" Jane said.

"Jane I remember you told me your wedding dress is a mermaid style lace dress with lace sleeves. So I was thinking let's get all the opposite. Like we'll go for something simple without lace and sleeves" I suggested.

"Well you have a good point. Then I'll go with the Teal color and you?" she asked pointing at me.

"Teal"

"Teal" Sandra voted as well.

"Then Teal it is" Ella said with a smile.

We gave the order and decided to stop for lunch. It was fun talking with Ella and Sandra. They were younger than me but we definitely vibed well.

They were always smiling and laughing which reminds me of the time I was so carefree like them. I had no worries and could simply life my life to the fullest but now things were different.

"Naomi or Mimi?" Ella asked me.

"Mimi. That's my name. Only few call me Naomi" I replied.

"So what's your story?" Sandra asked.

"We'll I graduated with Jane then I worked for 6 months in New York then I went back to London" less details was all that I wanted to give.

"You worked here as well? I never saw you in our office. I have known both these two from the start" Ella said pointing towards Jane and Sandra.

"She worked somewhere else. She and Chris graduated in business and I did in journalism" Jane explained.

"Oh so Chris was your childhood friend as well?"

"No stupid. We meet in college and then I dated for 3 years and then we ended" Jane said.

"That's interesting. How did you end up with Gabriel? We thought it was just a simple hook up" Sandra asked with excitement.

"It was a simple hook up but then I got to know Naomi and Gabriel were friends and we had more s*x. That's how we ended up deciding to have s*x with each other our whole life" Jane said and we busted out laughing. Jane never had filters.

"So how do you know Gabriel?" Sandra asked me.

"We worked together"

"You mean to say you worked in Ignite?"

"Yeah pretty much" I said with a not-so-interested tone.

"Damn!! You worked with Andrew Mathew?! He is hot, makes me wanna jump on to him and eat him raw" Ella said with sparkling eyes.

I felt pretty awkward. I wanted the discussion to end as soom as possible.

"He is in his early thirties and still jaw dropping sexy. His beard and oh so delicious body adds fire to my soul" Sandra said dramatically.

"Excuse me. I need to use the washroom" I said and walked towards the direction without waiting for them to respond.

I slammed the door shut as soon as I reached the washroom. Splashed water on my face to get myself cool.

Even after so many years, he still had an effect on me. Why? I hate him to the core. Why did he effect me so much? God damnit!!

The last time I saw him he didn't have beard. Is he still the sexy hot boss I feel in love with? Aahhhhhh!! Stop it! Just stop messing my head!

I splashed some more water and wiped my face.

Okay! Now you go and sit there and act like nothing happened. Wait! No No... You go and sit like nothing happened because nothing happened. Yes!!

I walked back towards our table when I saw the same suit guy standing outside our restaurant. Something is fishy!.

I sat back on my chair and looked out again. This time the guy was just standing outside not looking like before.

I did a mental note and started eating. The girls seem to be discussing about something else now which was a relieve.

We soon finished our lunch and departed towards our own way.

As me and Jane sat on the car, my mind was drifting on the suit guy.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know they'll take up that topic" Jane said getting me out of my thoughts.

"It's fine. It's an old story now so it doesn't matter anymore" I said simply.

"Can I ask you something? like it's pretty weird question" I hesitated.

"Yeah"

"Do you by any chance have a bodyguard or something like that?" I said not quite sure how to put up the question.

"What! No. Why would I have a bodyguard for no reason. I'm not some celebrity" she said.

"After looking at the way your wedding is going to be, I doubt that" I said sarcastically.

"I mean I'm not that important of a person to have a bodyguard. I don't need them" she said. She did have a point.

I grabbed my phone and messaged Chris

'Need your help. Call me when you are free'

We reached soon and went back to our rooms to get some rest. I took a shower and got my laptop to do some work.

beep-beep-beep

"Hellow"

"You needed help?"

"Yeah. When are you coming?" I asked.

"Day after tomorrow. Why? Do you need me to get something for you?"

"No I don't need anything from London. Actually I saw a guy in suit following us. I'm not sure whether he was following us or someone else but can you get a guy to check on it"

"Okay. I'll ask someone to get on the work. I'll be there soon so don't worry"

"Thanks. Did you meet Andrea?" I asked.

Chris was close to Andrea. Chris was just like David, spoiling her with love and gifts. He was one of the person she relied on more than me.

"She is just like you. Always dominating me and getting me to do her work. The other day she made me do her homework with her puppy eyes" he said and we both ended up laughing at her.

"She reminds me of you. She is such a good girl in class but at the same time knows how to get her work done by me just like you did in college" He said. I smiled remembering those days.

"She needs to know the truth" he said.

"I need some time. You know that. I'm waiting for the right time" I said trying ti justify my point.

"There is no right time for the truth. You need to make the time right by telling her the truth" he insisted.

"Yeah I know. I'll see you soon" I said trying to end the conversation.

"You can't avoid it always. see you soon" he said and hung up.

I walked towards the window to get some air. I closed my eyes as the memories came rushing.

*flashback*

"What the hell happened?" Emily said opening the front door.

"Mom Dad, Mi is here" she yelled.

"I just wanna get some sleep" I said and walked towards my room.

"Did you leave New York?" Emily's sudden question made me stop.

"I'm never going back" I said and ran towards my room.

I shut the door and sat on the floor. I didn't realise I was crying again.

The next few days I avoided everyone. Emily would just get me food and leave immediate. I wasn't hungry at all so I would just leave the food until she would came back and get it.

I was sitting in my bed and thinking about it all for weeks. I have been avoiding everyone's call and asked Emily to do the same.

"Can I come in?" Emily said popping her head through the door.

"I'm not hungry" I said.

"What happened Mi. You were never like this. What happened to do? Why do you look so broken?" she asked as she placed herself on the edge of the bed.

"Everything is over. I lost it. I lost to a guy. I let him invade my life and control my heart and body. He f****d my life, my heart and my career" I said crying again.

"The Mi I knew would never loose no matter what. She would always stand up and get her strength back to fight with anything that comes in her way. She would never quit" Emily said and stood up and left my room.

She was right. I can't quit. I can't loose. I need to make myself strong and start again.

I jumped out of the bed and got my laptop and started hunting for jobs. I remember Mr. Macboon offer letter.

I scheduled an appointment with the company and other more.

To my surprise, after a week or so I got a reply from Mr. Macboon himself offering me to work in the marketing department.

My life was getting back on track but then another storm hit me.

Or should I say the biggest storm of my life.
