CHAPTER 5

RUBI'S POV “What!” Kelly asked. A bit to loudly, that a few of the customers at the cafe turned to look at us. “Hush, lower your voice kel. You are distracting your customers.” She turned to look at everyone, before offering an apology with a tight smile. “Sorry, everyone.” We are sitting down at Kelly’s cafe after my shift drinking coffee as I had just told her about my current situation since Hector’s arrival in just twenty four hours. “Damn, that guy is so into you.” She whispered to me. “What? Who?” “That guy in the black suit. He’s always watching you. He only comes around when you are here.” I turned around a bit and tried not to be so obvious. And true to her words, the guy in the black suit is looking right at me. As soon as our eyes meet, he hurriedly looked away and I blushed. It’s strange though, he looks familiar yet I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him before. I would definitely have remembered his face. He is a handsome man, muscled yet lean with his black hair and olive skin. Almost identical to Hector’s, but not even close to Hector’s dominance. I immediately turned back to face Kelly, who immediately started laughing when she noticed my blushed face. “Rubi, you are blushing.” Embarrassed, I tried to deny. “No, I am not.” She smiled mischievously. “Of course you are. And I’m intrigued, you get this looks all the time, but I’ve never seen you blush so hard before.” She knows me better than anyone though. She’s just as close to me as my dad was. “That’s not true.” “Of course, it’s true. I know you better than anyone. Anyways we were talking about Hector.” Right. My mood is ruined now. “Yeah.” She leaned over to me. “Please correct me if I’m wrong. He brought his mistress to your home? Then sent you packing out of your room for his mistress?” It hurts even harder to say it out loud. “Yes, kel. That’s exactly what Hector did.” “And you just left the room? Just like that.” “What do you expect me to do? Fight over it?” Kelly snorted. Face all serious at once. “For starters, that’s exactly what I expect you to do. You just don’t sit around and let people walk over you. You get the hell up and fight back.” She is right though. I do need to do something about it. I can’t live the rest of my life like that. But what do I do? “About what you said happened in the kitchen, looks like there is something going on with him though. Seems he’s more affected by you than he lets on.” "That is an understatement. There is something wrong with him, he’s a shameless jerk.” “That dude, is messed up…” she whispered. “Does he have bipolar?” I laughed at that. “ I doubt that. He’s just being mean.” “He’s being an asshole.” “Exactly. And you are letting him play on your emotions.” That caught me off guard, and I looked at her confused. “No, I am not. I just told you what he did to me, kel. He brought his mistress into our home.” She nodded, and took a sip from her coffee. “That’s exactly what I’m talking about. He is your husband. Yours. So stand your ground, don’t let him treat you like that.” “How am I supposed to do that?” “Demand your rights. Play your cards right. Take legal action if need be. I would have advised you to get a divorce, but I know you made a dying oath to your father, so it’s likely you’ll never break that.” She’s right. There is no way I could ask for a divorce, and Hector knows this. That’s why he has been trying to make my life a living hell. Kelly stared at me, to see if what she was trying to say was sinking in or not. Satisfied that I got where she was going with this, she continued. “Since you can’t leave this marriage, why not make it work for you? You are a woman who knows what you want, you are determined, resourceful, and worthy of your dreams and ambitions.” I was suddenly emotional and couldn’t help the peaceful smile that made itself known on my face. Seeing that Kelly smiled too, and reached out to hold my hands lightly squeezing them. “Don’t let anyone disrespect you like that. You are his wife, so don’t just lean on the corner. Fight for you right, and put that b***h in her goddamn place.” I nodded. “ You are right.” “What? I’m always right, girl.” We both burst out laughing. Then she gave me that serious look again and said. “Go make the most out of your marriage girl, I have fate in you and your abilities.” That was all the push I needed. I need to make the most of this marriage if I’m in it for good. Hector will have to put up with my presence in his life and get over whatever s**t that he holds against me. “Thank you, Kel. It means a lot. I don’t know what I’ll ever do without you.” She smiled wickedly. “You’d be miserable without my corny jokes.” We both laughed at that, sipping our coffee at the same time. I loved this woman to death, and I need to express that more often than I do. She’s always been my source of strength. “Seriously though, love you, Kel.” “I love you too, Rubi. Now get your ass up and go show them who is in charge.” I leaned back on my chair. More determined now more than ever. “With pleasure kel. With pleasure.” I am not backing out from my fight, no matter what happens. This is a fight for me and my pride. ************** When I got home, I met a very angry Hector pacing around the living room. Immediately he saw me, he strolled towards me with angry steps and grabbed my arms before pushing me against the wall. “Where the f**k were you?” He growled angrily. I tried to jerk my arms from his hold, but he was holding me too tight and close to his body. “Answer me when I’m asking you a goddamn question!” His hold on my hands was starting to hurt. “Hector, you are hurting me.” At that, he immediately released my hand, but he was invading my personal space. “Speak up then. Where were you?” He drawled every word out viciously. “I’ve been working my shift at the cafe.” I answered, rubbing the arm he had just released. “You work?” He asked shockingly, as if in disbelief that he’d ever picture me working. “Since when? And at a goddamn cafe? Who gave you permission?” Oh, the nerve of this man. “I don’t need anyone’s permission. Much less yours.” He snarled at me. Pinning me against the wall, with both his hands against the wall beside my head. “Seems you still don’t understand this, Rubina. I f*****g own you! You are my wife! Do you hear that? You are mine!” With that, he crushed his lips against mine. Owning and devouring me. This is my first kiss, my first kiss, and it’s with my husband. We had a court wedding, and we didn't share any kisses because Hector ignored me like a plague throughout the whole day, even at the house party. He never looked my way once. God, I’ve never felt this way before. Hector grabbed my ass, pushing me against his hard length. He cupped my breast, bringing his lips down my neck to my collarbone, licking and sucking like his life depended on it. We were making out in the damn living room anyone could walk in. But I don’t care. I just want him to continue touching me. He slipped his hands down my mini dress causing me to moan loudly. I couldn’t help it. I was so wet and waiting for his hands to find me. Returning his lips back to mine, he growled against my mouth, breathless like I was. “You are mine, Rubi. f*****g mine.”
