Chapter Five

1512 Words
Odessas POV The butterflies were never ending when I was with Sampson. Hell even just thinking about him brought them back. Whenever we were apart I felt cold, and very sad. I didn't like it but pushed through it. I mean we don't really know each other so I don't understand why I'm feeling this way. I wanted to punch the guy who kept trying to get my number...especially when he asked if Sampson was my dad. I figured that was the reason why he left so quickly. I made my way home and saw my a strange care in my driveway. I parked my car behind my dad's and got out to look at it. Whoever owned it definitely had money that was for sure. I walked into the house and kicked my shoes off. "Mom, Dad I'm home!" I called out as I tossed my keys onto the table. My mom popped her head out of the kitchen with a big smile. "Oh sweetie come here we'd like to introduce you to someone" She said. "Sure" I said following her. When I walked in a guy sat across from my dad. He had short brown hair that was spiked up. He was definitely built like my parents so he had to be into fitness as well. His brown eyes looked me up and down with a slight smirk. I crossed my arms over my chest feeling a little uncomfortable. "Honey this is Mason" Dad introduced us. "Mason this is our daughter Odessa" He said. "Nice to meet you" I said with an uncomfortable smile. "Same" He said before turning back to my dad. "You got a deal" Mason said sticking his hand out for my dad to shake. With a big proud smile he did then showed Mason out as they quietly spoke to each other. "Who was that Mom?" I asked her taking a seat at the kitchen island. "Dad and I are looking to expand our company and Mason is an investor" She said. "Him? He looks like he's my age" I said shocked. "He's young but he comes from a powerful family with a lot of money" Mom said. "So what was the deal?" I asked. "Don't worry about it precious" Dad said coming back and kissing the back of my head. "It's boring math stuff" He said. I shrugged my shoulders as Mom started making dinner. "So how was your day?" Dad asked. "Good went and got some coffee" I said. I didn't want to tell them about Sampson because I wasn't sure how they would feel. Sure without him my parents would have never found me. However sometimes they didn't like talking about my past so I didn't bring it up much. "That's nice" Mom said. We continued talking for a bit as we ate dinner. Once we were done I cleared the table and did the dishes before heading to my room for the night. On my way up the stairs I pulled my phone out and sent a text to Sampson. 'I'm glad we got to see each other today' I typed out. I put my phone back into my pocket once I reached my room and changed into my pajamas. I sprawled out on my bed and turned the television on so I could watch something. I felt my phone buzz and looked to see Sampson had responded. 'Me too. Sorry again that I had to cut it short' He apologized. 'It's okay. I understand work is important' I said. 'Let me make it up to you. How about I take you out for dinner one night?' He said. I couldn't help the smile as I texted back 'Sure. I'll see what my work schedule is like then let you know'. I put my phone down still smiling as I focused on the tv again. I heard a knock on my door frame and saw my mom standing there. She leaned on the frame with her arms crossed over her chest, a knowing smile on her face. "What's got you smiling like that? Is it a boy?" She asked excitedly. I laughed a little "Maybe" I said shyly. Mom pushed herself into my room and sat on my bed. "Well just make sure to take things slow okay" She said. "Oh jeeze mom!" I said grossed out at 'the talk'.  "I'm not saying that!" She said with a laugh. "I meant you just turned eighteen not too long ago. Enjoy this single time" She said. "Anyways good night kiddo" She said leaning over and giving me a kiss. "Night mom" I said. She walked out but popped her head back in quickly. "Oh before I forget. Let me know your next day off okay. We're going to have a big neighborhood cook out" Mom said. "Okay I'll check with Kayla tomorrow" I told her. She gave me a thumbs up before disappearing into the hallway again. The next day I clocked in at work and tied my apron around my waist. "Hey Kayla" I said moving past my manager to see what tables I had. "Hey yourself" She said as she loaded up a tray of food. "Is the new schedule out yet?" I asked her. "Not technically but go in my office and it's on my desk" She said before walking out of the kitchen door. I made my way into the room and saw what days I had off and texted them to my mom. 'Thanks honey!' She texted back before I put my phone away. I went about my shift relatively peaceful. I dropped off a tables food when the hostess told me there was a man at the bar requesting me. I looked over confused trying to see who it could be. When I made my way over I saw Mason sitting there with a glass of water. "Oh uh hey...Mason right?" I asked. Again he looked me up and down with a smirk before he spoke. "That's right" He said. "I was told you asked for me?" I asked. "Yeah your parents mentioned you worked here and I thought I'd come check out the place" He said with a shrug of his shoulder. "Okay then" I said before getting back to work. Once his food was ready I took it to him. "So you're going to invest in my parents company?" I asked him. "Yeah I am. The deal was too good to pass up" He said holding my gaze. It made me really uncomfortable so I looked away. "Well I know they appreciate it" I said. "I think I'm getting the better end of it though" He said brushing a piece of hair behind my ear. It felt so odd to have another man touch me. It didn't feel warm like Sampson's. Wait why am I thinking about him? I asked myself.  I took a step back and smiled. "Well I'll let you enjoy your meal" I said before turning and walking away. I went back to the kitchen and took my break. I was scrolling through my phone when I got a text. 'Hey peaches you working?' Sampson asked. The butterflies came back and Mason was forgotten. 'Yeah I'm on my break now' I responded. 'Awesome come out back' He said. Confused I walked out of the back door and saw him leaning against his car. "Hey" I said excitedly and walked over to give him a hug. I was just so warm and it felt so right. God I could get used to this I thought to myself. "How's work tonight?" He asked me. "It's going pretty good" I said stepping back a little. "Oh by the way I'm off Wednesday and Friday" I told him. "Excellent want to go to dinner on Friday?" He asked him. "I can't that day because my parents are having a big cook out" I said. "It's okay Wednesday it is" He said with a smile. The alarm on my phone went off and I quickly silenced it. "Well I need to get back" I said. "Okay have a good night. Text me when you get home" Sampson said pulling me into another hug. "See you Wednesday peaches" He said before I headed back in. I printed out Mason's check and brought it over to him. "Here you go" I said placing it down for him. There were other people at the bar now so I brushed against him when I did. He tensed up and seemed to glare at me with his nostril flared a little. "You okay?" I asked him taking a step back. "Yeah fine" He said throwing some cash onto the bill. Mason got up and straightened his shirt. "See you at the cook out Friday" He said before walking out the door. I picked up his check and the cash as I muttered to myself "what the f**k is his problem?" I went to the register and put the money away. "Ugh! Great...didn't even f*****g tip" I said before returning to work.
