Chapter Six     Sarah      I kept looking at him out of the corner of my eye. I was meant to be sleeping or at the very least resting. But I couldn’t help it. Bat was sat at my bedside, the scan picture clutched in his hands. He had been alternating between staring at me and then staring at it for hours. I had never seen him look so vulnerable. Not in all the years I had known him, which ha been my entire life. “I know you’re awake woman.” He growled softly. His eyes lifting to me. The smile I had been holding in, erupted across my face.  My eyes opened fully as he grinned at me. “How long have you known?” “A while.” He chuckled. “Your heartbeat is erratic as fuck.” He c****d an eyebrow at me, his face puzzled. “What keeps getting you all excited? You are meant to be resting so I can take you both home tomorrow.” I paused; it would be so easy to lie to him now. I had got surprisingly good at it.  But things were good between us. I didn’t want to lie. I wanted us to have a totally honest relationship from here on out. “You are.” I said softly. Bats eyes widened. “What have I done?” “Sitting there looking all handsome and being all …” I struggled to find the right words. “The way you are looking at that photo.” I shrugged. “I’ve never seen this side of you before and its hot as hell.” He was off his chair in a second, leaning over the bed he captured my lips with his.  Sighing happily, I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him down so his forehead was against mine. This close his brown eyes seem more golden. Tiny flecks of green making them sparkle. He really did have the prettiest eyes in the world. I hoped our baby had his eyes. The thought made me pause. The smile slipped from my face. If the baby was his. There was a chance it wouldn’t be. Suddenly the adoring look he was giving the scan phot made me want to vomit. What if the baby wasn’t his? How would I tell him? How would he cope? It would break him. And it would shatter us. “I don’t care if the baby is mine Sarah.” As usual it seemed like he could read my mind.   “You say that now but when it comes to it, when it….” “Woman. “He growled again, louder this time and the sound made something flutter in my stomach. What was it about this man and the way he growled at me that gave me butterflies? Hell, he didn’t even to growl. He could just look at me and I got all quivery inside.  “I don’t care if the cub is my blood. I will love them because they are part of you. I already love them.” “Bat.” Tears pricked my eyes. We had been through so much. Fought so hard to be together. Granted we had fought each more than once as well.  But it had always been him for me. My older brothers, gorgeously gruff best friend. This was finally our time. Everyone knew about us. We didn’t have to hide our feelings or the fact we wanted to be together anymore. It was all finally falling into place. But I wanted the baby to be his, I wanted it with everything I had.  It didn’t matter what he said now. I knew he would feel differently when the baby was here. “Don’t cry Sarah,” He wiped the rough pad of his thumb under my eye, catching my silently falling tears.  “Please don’t cry. You doubt me and that’s ok. I hurt you today. Hell, vie been hurting you all your life but its not going to happen again. I can’t stand the thought f not having you and our baby in my life. And it is my baby. Whether its my blood or not Sarah, so don’t argue with me.” He paused, and the smallest of smiles curved the corners of his mouth.  “Which is why when the cubs born its going to have my name.” “Your name?” “Yes.” He nodded thoughtfully. “Both of you will have my name.” “Bat I don’t understand.” “Marry me, Sarah. You can’t shift now so I cant mark you but I can put a ring on your finger. Make it human official.” “You want to marry me?” “f**k Sarah, you know I want to marry you. I’ve known you would be my wife since you were placed screaming into my arms. So yeah.” His grin was a flash of white. “Will you marry me”
