Chapter 8 Connor glared at the driver through the rearview mirror. The driver immediately shifted his gaze away and focused on driving. "What happened?" Annette and Connor sat in the back of the car. After nearly five minutes of silence, Connor finally opened his mouth. "Nothing. It's just that... I find it funny watching people in fancy cars get stuck in traffic. It turns out that money can't do everything." "She is lying," Leo said to Connor. Connor felt a little dissatisfied. He asked, "Then why were you crying?" "Because I'm poor. I'm not even qualified to sit in my car and complain about the traffic, since I don't have a car." Connor glanced at Annette. He knew that she was lying again. He remembered that though Annette had a driver's license, she didn't know how to drive. Connor said to the driver, "Leonard, stop the car." Leonard hurriedly pulled over. "Leonard, you're off duty." Leonard looked back. He was a little worried. Before Leonard could say anything, Connor's gaze turned cold. "What is it? Didn't you hear me?" "I did hear you, Alpha Connor. Yes, Alpha Connor." Leonard hurriedly unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the car. The moment Leonard closed the car door, his gaze met Annette's. It looked like Leonard was saying to Annette, "Ms. Hall, best of luck." After Leonard left, Connor looked at Annette and said, "Now that you have a car, you can drive it." "Me?" She felt guilty and lowered her voice a few decibels. "Didn't you say you envied others for driving? I'm giving you this chance." "Isn't your car worth a lot? What if I crash it? Besides, it might be nothing if I crash the car, but what if you get hurt? I won't be able to live with that." She flattered him deliberately, but he didn't fall for it. "It doesn't matter. I won't get hurt." Connor's tone was full of confidence. Annette failed to persuade him. She sat in the driver's seat, worried. She started the car and was about to step on the accelerator when he said calmly, "The car is less than two million dollars. If you crash it, I'll give you a 50 percent discount when you compensate for my car. It's a sweet deal, so, no pressure. Right?" Annette knew Connor was putting pressure on her by saying this, and she was annoyed. She gritted her teeth and stepped on the accelerator. Annette drove the car to the middle of the road. She saw the red light, so she quickly hit the brake. Yet she braked too fast, and the car behind her rear-ended Connor's car. She looked back and saw the car owner sitting in the car without moving. She then looked at Connor with a face full of fear. "What should I do? Is it my fault? Because I stepped on the brake." "He didn't keep a safe distance, and that makes him responsible as well, but I think he is more afraid than you now." "Why?" "Because he can't afford to compensate for my car. Sit here. Don't come out." She nodded. Connor got out of the car and walked to the car behind them. The car owner got out of the car. She turned around and saw the two men talking about something. Then Connor took out his wallet and gave the car owner some money. The car owner took it and got into the car. Connor came back. The whole process took no more than three minutes. "You gave him money?" she asked anxiously. "Yes. It's on your tab now. You will pay me back all at once. Now drive." She was speechless for a second. Then she asked, "You still want me to drive?" "You have to pay me anyway now. Why don't you relax and just drive the car back? My car has been hit already. Being hit once or twice won't make a difference. Now go." She was about to cry. How could he comfort people in such a way? She drove the car back to the villa, feeling scared. Her whole body stiffened. When Annette and Connor reached the door of the villa, the housekeeper, Dwayne, walked over. As Dwayne saw Annette, he said, "Alpha Connor, Ms. Hall's room is ready." Connor looked at Dwayne. Dwayne immediately said, "Alpha Connor, is there anything else I can do for you?" Connor turned around. As he walked, he said, "Tomorrow, send the car for repair and give the receipt to Annette." "OK." Then Dwayne invited Annette into the villa. After settling her in the room next to the stairs, Dwayne left. Not long after, Dwayne knocked on the door and brought Annette some new clothes for change. They were brand-new, with tags on. She thanked Dwayne after taking the clothes over. Annette thought that she would not be able to sleep well since she was sleeping in a different place. To her surprise, she slept exceptionally well for the night. Early in the morning, the bell rang. When she woke up, she felt refreshed. She washed up and then came out of her room. Connor came downstairs at the same time. Her room was next to the stairs, so they bumped into each other. There was a trace of embarrassment on her face. "Alpha Connor, good morning." He raised his eyebrows and sized her up. "Well, you looked refreshed, and quite appetizing." She was puzzled. What did he mean? He said evilly, "The outfit suits you well. You look sexy." She glanced down at her clothes. It was from Dwayne yesterday, which was already less revealing than the rest. Her body was well covered. How did he conclude that she looked sexy? Connor saw her puzzled gaze, and he walked towards the dining table. Dwayne had already had someone prepare breakfast. After breakfast, Annette got in Connor's car, and they left the villa together. The driver sent Annette to the university first and then sent Connor to work because it was in the same direction. After class in the afternoon, Annette went back to the dorm to pack her things. After packing, she left a note for Roxanne, her roommate, and then she dragged her luggage and left. Passing the school garden, Annette came face to face with Kyle. They both saw each other, and there was no sideroad, so she had to brace herself and walk forward. Kyle looked at her, his eyes full of resentment. He walked up to her and stopped. Seeing that she was about to continue walking, he grabbed her wrist. "Annette, don't you have anything to say to me?" "No." Her expression was cold. "No? Alright then. I'll talk. My mother told me everything. I can't believe you traded me for a job. You promised her you'd reject me. So, that was what you wanted, right? You were using me. Right?"
