Chapter 3 Annette had a shift in the convenience store today. Though her mate had cheated on her, she still had to carry on with her life. After all, she was a Rogue and she needed the money since she wouldn't get support from any packs. When Annette reached the gate, a car stopped in front of her and it looked familiar. The doors opened, and two people got out of the car. It was Kyle and Lena. Annette halted her steps. She was going to turn around to avoid them, but Lena called her. "Annette." Lena ran toward Annette from under the umbrella. She clasped Annette's hands. "Annette, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault. I'm such an awful person. I'll do anything, as long as you forgive me." Kyle dashed over and held the umbrella for Annette and Lena. Kyle looked at Annette with guilt on his face. "Annette, I don't know what got into me yesterday. I..." Annette looked at them standing in front of her. Her heart ached again, but this time, it was not as painful. She thought that such plots should only exist in TV dramas. One of them was her mate, and the other was her roommate. She never thought that her mate would betray her. He slept with her friend, and she caught them in the act. Annette did not respond to Lena. She looked at Kyle and said, "When I first came to the werewolf university, I had a lot of admirers. I could have rejected you, but I did not. Do you know why?" Kyle did not speak, and his face was full of guilt. Annette smiled and said, "Because I believe in the Moon Goddess. I believe in the mate that the Moon Goddess chose for me." Lena stepped forward and stood in between Annette and Kyle. Lena said, "Annette, it's all my fault. I started it first. So, don't blame him, OK?" Annette tried to remain calm. She glanced at Lena. Annette said to Kyle, "Everyone has to pay a price to find true love. Thanks to you, I've learned my lesson. Kyle, because of you, now that I know the Moon Goddess will make mistakes too. I shouldn't have trusted my mate so blindly." "I am sorry, Annette," Kyle kept apologizing. Annette sighed. She shook her head and smiled, "Kyle, you don't have to apologize to me. We are even now. Because of you, I got the job I wanted. You owe me nothing. And you, Lena, since you slept with Kyle, you and I were no longer friends. He is all yours now. So, from now on, don't pretend that we are still close, because you don't deserve to be my friend anymore. Now, I need to go to work." After Annette finished speaking, she stepped back and ran toward the curb. She was running fast and didn't notice a black car that was taking a turn toward the university. When she noticed the car, it was too late and she was hit by it. She staggered back a few steps and fell to the ground. Kyle shouted from behind, "Annette!" He was about to rush over, when he saw Annette dragging herself to her feet, using the car as a prop. Without a word, she limped to the car, opened the door, and got it. Besides the driver, there was another man in the car. She did not take a closer look and only looked out the window at Kyle. He was approaching, and shouting at the driver, "Take me to the convenience store on the second street, or I will call the police about the car accident." The driver was a little hesitant. Meanwhile, the man sitting in the back seat said, "Take her to the place she mentioned." The voice sounded familiar. She turned around in surprise and said, "Alpha Connor?" Connor handed over a handkerchief and said, "You are drenched. Dry yourself first. "Are you surprised to see me?" Annette took the handkerchief and apologized, "Sorry for messing up your car. I'll wash your car when the rain stops." The car stopped at the convenience store at the intersection. Annette opened the door and was about to get off. Connor said to the driver, "Give her an umbrella." The driver handed an umbrella to Annette. Annette opened the umbrella. She turned to Connor and said, "Alpha Connor, thanks for helping me out." "It takes more than paying lip service." Connor's expression was cold. "Bye." She took a step back and limped toward the convenience store. "Stop the car," Connor said to the driver, who had just started the engine. He got out of the car with another umbrella. He caught up with Annette and pulled her. Annette turned around and was surprised. "Alpha Connor?" "Are you injured? Come with me to the pack. I'll get the doctor to check on you," Connor said. "I'm fine, and I need to work," Annette refused. "A job at a convenience store?" Connor glanced at the store not far from them. He said, "You can clean my home for me. I don't know how much they pay you, but I'll pay you three times more." "I told you before that I didn't want to see you again, so no," Annette said. "You know that I have many ways to keep you from getting any kind of job," Connor said nonchalantly. "You can't do that to me." Annette gritted her teeth. Then she snorted, "Then I want more money." "Are you raising the price?" "That's right." "Sure. As you wish. But you'd better not be late." After Connor finished speaking, he left. Annette was late because of her conversation with Connor. The manager of the convenience store was kind. He did not deduct money from Annette's salary, so she worked half an hour longer. When Annette returned to the dorm of the werewolf university, she saw Lena sitting on the bed, reading a book. Lena wasn't happy to see Annette. Annette walked toward Lena, looked at her, and said coldly, "Lena, I think you should move out."
