Chapter 15

401 Words
Chapter 15When I heard that Khalid was coming to fly the Carmine team down to Guyana, my first thought was that she might be then abandoning her objective – eliminating me from the face of the earth. Talya must have been of two minds. She had promised everyone around her that she wouldn’t go on chasing drug lords anymore and that she was done with her escape stunts, but she knew in her heart of hearts that she would not rest until this man was dead. What’s more, whether she was in South America, or anywhere else on the planet, wouldn’t matter to me – I was determined to take her out of the picture. However, for now, she couldn’t do anything about it, since she had none of the resources or the support needed to put any plan into action. After all, she was not an Intelligence Agent; she was a secretary from Vancouver. Weighing the pros and cons quickly, and realizing that she would be better off away from a place where I could easily find her, she obviously accepted to travel down to Guyana. She started cleaning house. Talya did that when she was unable to concentrate on anything else but dirt, and there was plenty to go round. Yet, her place was a small one and it didn’t take twelve hours to dust the furniture. “May I come up?” “Khalid, yes, yes...” She pressed the intercom button. She was wide-awake now, but she was still in her jeans and T-shirt. Her hair was a mess and her face... She opened the door when he knocked. “Let’s go in ... I need to rest for a while.” Khalid was tired. Talya was putting this man through the wringer, driving him round the bend. “Are you hungry?” She sat down beside him on the sofa. “No thank you. I just wanted to set my eyes on you before going to sleep. Pierre and John are already in bed at the Sands, I’m sure. And I’ll go and join them as soon as I see that you’re sound asleep...” She didn’t let him finish the sentence, relaxed again and snuggled into his arms. “You have no restraint,” he whispered, caressing her hair. “But..., Talya, before I go..., you’ll have to promise me that if I ever go to my bedroom without talking to you first, you will stop me.” He looked into her eyes for an answer. Obviously, this was important to him. “I will, Khalid. I’ve done enough running away to last me a lifetime, I promise you.” He smiled.
