Chapter 14“James?”
“What can I do for you, Khalid? Where are you?”
“We’re still in Paris, ready to file our flight plans. But you must have surmised the same as I did, that there may be a contract on Talya’s head.”
Silence.
“What makes you think that’s the case?” James asked. “Could you clarify your deductions for me...? Besides, I am not at all ready to send Talya anywhere at the moment. Even if there was such a contract on her head, I would rather think she’d be better off to stay home where she’d be well protected locally.”
“That’s my point, James, and my question to you; was she well protected when she was nearly abducted in Victoria before we left for Africa?”
James had to agree. At the time, Talya would have probably been killed. “Yes, I remember, Khalid, but things are not the same now, are they? Osnoir is on his way out, one way or the other and we need to close the book on that affair.”
“Yes, we do, but even if Osnoir died today, things would not change, and they haven’t. I’d say, the situation is even worse – the Florida cartel needs to eliminate her...”
“Sorry, Khalid, but even if I agree with you that Talya would make a very incriminating witness in any court, there are many others like her in this affair – you for one...”
“I know, I know, and the only way to protect her is for me to take her down to Sinosetu...”
“Alright, alright. Ultimately, the decision is not ours to make, Khalid. Talya will need to decide whether she goes or she stays.”
Khalid was not used to have his suggestions rebuffed or even questioned, yet he had to admit, Talya would have to decide for herself whether she went to South America or not. “In any event, I think it would be better for all concerned if I came to fetch Terry, Louis and Talya, if she decides to accompany us to Guyana,” Khalid said.
“And when would you plan to be here then?”
“We’ll land in about 12 hours from now. Don’t bother with a car at the airport; we’ll find our way to the Sands and stay there overnight before we take off.”
“Okay, we’ll see you then.”
