The Grandfather's Warning
He couldn't help but tap his chest multiple times. It helped ease his nerves as the distance between the room where Sun's grandfather is.
He glanced at Clark as they walked towards the private lounge where Sun's grandfather is.
He cleared his throat. "So, uh, Clark, what kind of man is he?" He asked while fumbling on his fingers.
"He? Who might you be talking about?"
"Ah- I mean Sun's grandad? What's he like?"
"Oh," Clark nods his head with a hint of realization. "I'm sorry, I thought you might be talking about Young Master Sun." He chuckles lowly.
Seth chuckles awkwardly too upon hearing that. "I might ask you about him soon." He jokingly said with a side glance.
"Is that so? Then, I'll be waiting for that day, Young Master Seth." Clark replied with a small nod.
Clark still hasn't changed. He still talks to him formally. He is being treated as a super VIP it almost feels like he's part of the royalty. He doubts he will get used to it anytime soon.
"We're here. The Master is waiting inside," Clark announced as they stopped.
He can feel his heart hammering inside his chest, his knees are shaking a little. To be honest, right now what he really wanted to do is just to turn his back and run. Run.
But... Sun's face came to his mind. Sun's smiling beaming face. It would be disrespectful for him to not meet his grandfather especially if his grandfather is wanting to talk to him. Specifically him. The grandson's wife, which is him. How could he ever do that to Sun's grandfather?
'Sun is kind so maybe his grandfather too...?' He contemplated.
"Young Master Seth?" He snapped out of his thoughts because of Clark's voice.
"Ah, yes," he mumbled and heaved a deep sigh.
He can feel Clark's eyes on him. "Are you okay, Young Master Seth?"
"I'm nervous," he admitted while smiling nervously unable to look at Clark.
He heard Clark sighs, "I understand that this is sudden but... If this may help then, Master Edmondo is a peculiar man. He's different." He looked at Clark wondering what he meant but instead of explaining further, Clark simply smiled. "I would like you to find out about his peculiarity yourself." He said and then nodding his head, encouraging him to get inside.
Still nervous and hesitant, he closed his eyes and heaved a deep sigh. "All right," he breathed.
Clark smiled before he opened the door for him. He walked towards the open door carefully, as much as possible keeping the sound of his footsteps low, he's considering tiptoeing but it would be too weird if he got caught doing so.
The room is just like the other rooms in the mansion, it's spacious with outstanding furniture and interior. In the middle of the room are a set of L-shaped couches on both sides and a single couch in the middle with a glass table. Sitting on the single couch is a man with grey hair, his cane placed on the side, like the usual businessman, the man is wearing a formal suit. The wrinkles on his face are visible, his grey hair is arranged neatly, his beard is also grey, and the expression on his face gives away nothing about what he might be thinking. He is simply looking at him, Seth on the other hand doesn't know what exactly he needs to do so...
"H-Hi," he cleared his throat before he bowed formally, his hips bent so he can bow lowly, it's so low his head might hit the floor. "Hello, I'm Seth Lucero, it's a pleasure to meet you!" He bit his lips and shut his eyes when his voice raised than he intended it to.
"Mhm..." The old man, err. Mister Edmondo hummed. "Let's see, how long will you keep bowing that way? Your hips may break."
"YES!" He quickly replied and straightened his back standing straight. He almost saluted too! How he looked like a soldier. None is going according to what he wants to do! He's doing the exact opposite of what he wants to do!
What was his plan again? To leave a proper impression! Where the hell is proper with all he's doing?!
'Damn... I might as well bury myself alive.' He thought while standing still.
"You're a weird one," Master Edmondo commented. "I didn't know Sun's into weird lads like you."
'No, he's actually not. I think...' He wanted to respond but his tongue is no longer working.
He's too nervous to even speak properly. His knees aren't trembling that he's even surprised at himself. He thought he might fall on his knees the moment Sun's grandpa speaks, it must be because of his tense muscles. That's how nervous he is, he is literally frozen. Even his tongues won't properly work. Only his eyes are!
"Have a seat lad. I don't forbid people talking to me from seating."
"Yes, thank you very much!" He walked like a robot.
Still tensed with a straight back, he sat and waited for Mister Edmondo to speak because he can't.
Suddenly, the old man burst into a fit of laughter.
Bewildered, he watches as the old man's serious face morphed into that of a youthful laughter. "Ah..." He whispered not noticing that all the tension on his body is gone.
"Aha... How amusing you are lad!" Mister Edmondo complimented him, he thinks.
"... Thank... you...?" He trailed off, unsure.
The old man chuckles once again before he cleared his throat. This time, he's back to being serious but compared to a while back where Seth felt intimidated from his gaze alone, this time Master Edmondo is serious but his expression is softer.
"Now then, was it Seth?"
He flinched, "yes?"
The old man raised his eyebrows, "Your name lad, was it, Seth?"
"Yes!" He exclaimed. Surprised of his response he cleared his throat, "Y-Yes... My name is Seth. It's an honor to meet you Mister Edmondo." He replied respectfully with a small bow.
"Oh?" Mister Edmondo responded before he chuckled, ""Mister Edmondo" was it? Haha! Lad, I mean, Seth, drop the 'Mister', you can simply call me Edmondo. You see, 'Mister Edmondo' is too formal it's hurting my ears." Edmondo said with a low chuckle.
"E...ehem, it's an honor to meet you Mis— I mean Edmondo." He corrected.
Edmondo smiled. "Likewise."
Then, the room fell into silence. A nerve-wracking silence. Edmondo is simply staring at him without saying anything, his eyes squinted while he looks at him like analyzing an experiment subject. Seth is now sweating. Honestly, he wants to say something but he can't think of anything.
"Ah, forgive me for openly staring at like that. Say, lad, why did you introduced yourself as Seth Lucero and not Seth Clawstone?"
"Huh? Ah, that's-"
"-Are you ashamed of bearing my grandson's surname?"
"No! Of cou-"
"Perhaps he forced you into this marriage?"
"N-No, that's-"
"Did he kidnapped you?"
"Ah..." Yeah. Something like that.
"You don't like him, I see. Well then, let's annul your marriage-"
"No, wait! I like him!" He exclaimed standing up.
"That's good!" The old man grinned.
His eyes widen before he slumped back on his seat, he's slightly panting from exclaiming like that.
What was that? Why did he react like that?
"Let's annul your marriage..."
His ears rang. He looks down on the floor while cupping his chest where his racing heart is. It's beating uncontrollably it's making him breathless.
Was he nervous? What was that feeling back then?
Hearing from Sun's grandpa about their marriage's annulment got him panicked. So panicked he completely forgot who the man in front of him is! He even raised his voice at him!
"I'm glad that you like my grandson," Edmondo stated happily.
His face burned, "No, it's not like that... I..." He tried to defend himself to take back what be said but he couldn't find the right words to say. He's not sure of what to say himself.
Instead of saying anything further, he just pressed his lips together and sighed.
"Aha, it seems like you're a confused, young man," Edmondo said. When he looks at the old man, he's smiling at him. His soft smile is similar to Sun.
He wonders if Sun grows old, would he look exactly like Edmondo? Dignified but soft-spoken? Probably.
"If you're still confused then..." Edmondo's smile disappeared. "I suggest you to make up your mind, young man." Seth shuddered. The air around Edmondo completely changed from soft-spoken back to intimidating one. Dangerous even. "I will not let an omega hurt my grandson once again, that's why if you're unsure about what you feel for my grandson, leave him. Leave him and do not come back. I will take care of the legal documents. I am warning you, young man. You must not hurt my grandson. Leave early if you can't reciprocate my grandson's feelings for you."
With that, the room once again fell into silence.
Seth is filled with questions. Did Sun fell in love with an omega before him? What happened? Why... Why does it bother him?
Seth bit his lower lips. It would be better for him if he leaves Sun, right? He's... Just like what Sun's grandpa told him, if he's unsure of his feelings for Sun it will hurt Sun later on. It would be unfair of him to stay with Sun when he knows what Sun felt for him...
Huh...?
He chuckles to himself. Right... His walls are crumbling... It's crumbling right in front of him but it was too late for him to realize it.
He noticed feelings for him. He knows what he feels but his insecurities just won't leave him alone.
How about the omega who hurt Sun before? Who was it? How... How much did Sun loved that omega? Did he love that omega more than he loves him now?
"Ugh...!" He covered his mouth to cover the sob threatening to broke out. His tears are falling nonstop. "This is so unfair..." He mumbled to himself.
When?
When did his feelings reach out to him? When did it start?
More importantly, what does he truly feel for Sun? Gratitude? Respect?
He was so absorbed with his thoughts that he didn't notice the time that passed by. When he realized that it's been almost an hour since Edmondo left, he returned to his room in dazed. He made sure that his eyes won't show that he's been crying.
He was emotional. Too emotional but he can't stop himself.
Seth laid on the wide bed and raised his hand before he curled. He gripped his chest firmly. "What do I do..." He whispered, "what should I do...?"
Should he just... leave?
His eyes opened. "Yeah... Maybe that's what I need…"
Find resolved, Seth closed his eyes again, this time, he didn't notice that he fell asleep.
SUN'S POINT OF VIEW
"What?!"
Grandfather was here, and he also met my wife?
"Why are you telling me this now, Clark?"
"I'm sorry, Young Master. I know you have an important meeting today so I hesitated on telling you, aside from that, Young Master Seth asked me to wait for you here before I inform you." I sighed. If that's so then I can't blame him. It was Seth's request after all.
"I understand. What did grandfather say?" The old man, he visited his son-in-law but did not meet with his grandson. I can already envision his laughter while showing off about getting another grandson soon to his friends. I remember him saying they formed a members-only club about who has the most grandchildren.
"Well, the old master simply left after talking to Young Master Seth."
"He did? Really? He wasn't asking about your personal life?"
Clark frowned and composed himself. "He did not, Young Master."
I smirked at him. It may sound unbelievable since Clark always wears a neutral expression but in truth, he's a sensitive guy when it comes to his personal life, especially his love life. Heh.
"Where's my wife?" I asked him when I couldn't find my beautiful Seth anywhere. "Did he ate dinner yet? Or, is he waiting for me?" Seth often waits for me to eat dinner that's why I always finish my work before 9 PM to eat with him. Eating with him is always the best meal.
"Well, since the old master left, Young Master Seth has been in his room. It seems he wasn't feeling well but he told me not to disturb him. Shall I call for-"
"No need, Clark. I'll go there myself. Prepare our dinner first."
"I understand."
I climbed the stairs while wondering why Seth is not feeling well. Did grandfather tell him something weird? Maybe he demanded for Seth to give birth to his grandchildren?! That weird old man. It's possible that he did. He's always been demanding for grandchildren from me as if children can be mass-produced.
"Hey, wife?" I softly knock on his door.
"Come in." I thought he was asleep since Clark said he wasn't feeling well. I'm glad he's okay. His voice sounded weird though.
I opened his room's door with a wide smile only to freeze on the spot. My smile faltered.
"H-Hey... Why... What's with the luggage, wife? Uh, did you have somewhere to be? Why didn't you tell me beforehand? I could have prepare for-"
"Sun,"
No. He's not leaving me, is he? That can't be. We were doing just fine!
"Yes?" I smiled at him. I kept smiling even though my heart's suddenly beating fast because of fear. He won't leave me... Seth won't. Our deal is still valid, besides we weren't fighting and—
"I want to go back to my apartment."
Fuck...
I gripped the doorknob tightly, I can feel it almost breaking. My ears are ringing, my jaws clenched and unclench while I try to calm myself down.
I must not let him see me with a frightening expression. Seth wouldn't like that. I have to smile... "Well? Why so suddenly?"
I didn't look away from him. My hands hurt from gripping them too tightly but I must hold myself back.
"I know you're mad. You don't need to hold yourself back."
"I'm... not mad. I'm just surprised because it's too sudden." I explained because it was the truth. I can't be mad at him, I'm mad at myself. "Why? Why are you leaving? Did I do something wrong? Was there something unsatisfactory for you? Tell me..." I begged. I can't bring myself to close the distance between us because I'm scared I might do something that Seth wouldn't like. He might really leave me if I do.
"Of course not. Sun, this place and you are the warmest places. You were so kind, respectful, and sweet. You're the best person and place to be with." My heart twitched.
"If I am, then, why do you look so sad, Seth? Shouldn't I be that way?"
"No!" His voice raised. "No..." Then he whispered and looked down. He looked back at me with a small smile. It wasn't his usual smile. It was a painful smile. Seth is sometimes cold and distant, he was like that especially when he didn't trust me. It was his way of guarding himself. Protecting himself from the outside. I understand why he does so, he hated alphas. He hates them so much his eyes turn deadly. My wife is scary sometimes but still... I love everything about him. What he hates, what likes, what he doesn't... Everything
"It's just unfair." He stared at me almost lovingly. If only he really loves me... "I want to go back to my apartment to experience being back to my life before I met you. I want to live my life without you..." Damn. My heart's still beating but I can feel, hear something chattering. "I'm confused about what I feel about you, Sun. You saved me, you saved me from everything I was afraid of. That's why... That's why I want to be sure about what I really feel about you so that I won't hurt you... any more than I already did. I want to know if I like you, if I'm in love with you or I'm grateful... I want to know so that... I'll be able to tell you what I feel..."
My smile disappeared. I run a hand on my hair, frustrated, and scared. "Is that your final decision?"
"Yes..." He whispered.
I see. I get what he means but... I'm even more scared. Honestly, it doesn't matter what he feels for me as long as he’s willing to stay with me. As long he doesn’t hate me, I can accept whatever he feels for me as long he doesn’t hate me but I know it won’t do good for him. If I don’t let him go now and he stays with me carrying all those doubts about his own feelings, Seth will be unhappy, he will bear those feelings all the time, the longer he bears those, the more complicated it will become. He will be even more confused, insecure, and unhappy. I don’t want that. I want Seth to always, always feel happy with me. I want him to have every good thing. Everything.
If so then... “All right.” I look at him, “all right. I’ll have Clark ready the car. Would you... like to have dinner with me?”
He stared at me for a good ten seconds then he smiled, a lone tear fell from his beautiful eyes. “Yes,” I turned around, clenched my jaw, and cupped my chest. It will be fine... this is what he wants. As much as I love to cage him, keep him with me, I can’t.
It will be fine.
-
“Um, I’m going... Sun.” I smiled at him. He stared at me before he turned around and opened the car’s door.
The next thing I knew, I closed the distance between us, my lips brushed against his. Honestly, I just want to send him off and not touch him because I’m scared I might lose all reason and just lock him up but I’m more scared to not touch him because this might be the last time I can kiss and embrace him like this.
“I’ll be waiting, wife,” I whispered as I kiss his forehead.
“Okay. See you, Sun,”
I smiled at him. See you soon, my wife.
Seth left while Clark and I remained outside.
“Shall I-”
“No. I’d like to be alone, Clark.”
“Yes. I understand, Young Master.”
Clark left without the sounds of his footsteps echoing. His nimble movements practically make him almost a ghost.
Seth... my beautiful wife.
I let him go now but I don’t really care what he feels for me. If he’s only indebted to me for everything but he’s unwilling to continue our marriage because he feels it’s not right to stay with me without feeling affection for me then I will turn that gratitude to like, and then I’ll make him fall in love with me. I will change his feelings for me until he realizes that he wants to stay with me because he’s in love with me.
I will do anything, everything to have him fall for me. Just like I’m head over heels for him.
To be continued…
