CHAPTER 2
Clara'S POV
I slowly opened my eyes to the lovely morning sunlight that streamed into the room, and the first thing I noticed was the emptiness beside me.
The warmth of Dominic’s body, which had held me safe all night, was gone. I reached out, my fingers grazing cold sheets, and a strange feeling of unease twisted in my stomach. Where was he?
I gently sat up, brushed my hair back, and glanced around the quiet room. It still smelled of him but the silence felt heavy, and the feeling worried me as I dressed and left for my pack.
The moment I arrived, something felt… off. The usual buzz and noise of the pack had died down to murmurs and side glances.
"Guys… there she is," a member of the pack muttered, and I wondered what was going on.
As I walked through the pack grounds, people quickly averted their eyes. I passed a few familiar faces, but they either looked away or muttered under their breath as if I’d done something unspeakable.
Confused, I increased my pace, my mind racing. What was going on?
“Clara!”
I turned and saw my best friend, Ruby, rushing towards me. The look on her face made my heart drop.
“Ruby, what’s wrong?” I asked, hoping for an explanation, something to make sense of the strange feeling clawing at me.
She bit her lip, hesitating. “Have… have you seen the video?” she asked, her voice low.
My stomach twisted with dread. “What video?”
She looked around, as if afraid someone might hear. “It’s… Clara, there’s a video of you. Someone leaked it this morning. It looks like you’re… like you’re throwing yourself at Dominic and seducing him so he could forcefully make you Luna”
My breath hitched, and a sickening heat crept up my neck. “What? That’s not possible! Ruby, last night we… I didn’t… I wouldn’t…”
“I know, I know!” Ruby whispered urgently. “But that’s how it looks. Everyone’s talking about it. They’re saying you were practically begging him.”
“No,” I murmured, barely able to comprehend the words.
I took a shaky breath, trying to calm myself, but Ruby’s words kept replaying in my mind. Who would do this? And why?
Almost before I could process it, Ruby’s phone buzzed, and she quickly glanced at the screen, her eyes going wide. “Clara, you need to see this,” she said, her voice shaking as she handed me her phone.
My fingers felt numb as I took it, staring at the screen. It was a live news broadcast, right from Dominic’s palace.
And there he was.
Dominic stood tall and composed, his face emotionless as he looked into the camera.
I barely registered Morgana beside him, her smug smile making my stomach turn. Then Dominic began to speak.
“To my pack and all neighboring packs,” he announced, his voice cold and unfamiliar. “I, Dominic Dominic, hereby reject Clara Summers as my mate. She is no longer welcome in this pack, and I will not tolerate any association with her. I ask that you all respect this decision.”
He paused, glancing at Morgana with something almost close to warmth, then continued, “I have chosen Morgana as my true mate and the rightful Luna of this pack. She is the only one deserving to lead beside me."
Hearing that, my vision blurred. It felt like the world was spinning, and the phone slipped from my grasp, landing on the ground with a hollow thud.
I stared at the screen, my mind unable to register what I’d just heard. Dominic’s words echoed in my head, and I could literally feel my heart crush with every passing second.
This couldn’t be real. Last night… last night, he’d held me, whispered promises in my ear. I’d given him everything. And now, he was publicly rejecting me, casting me aside like I was nothing?
“A-Clara…” Ruby’s voice was soft, filled with concern, but I could barely hear her over the roar in my ears.
Without another word, I turned and ran. I didn’t know where I was going; all I knew was that I needed answers. I needed to hear it from Dominic’s own lips, to understand why he’d done this.
The pain in my chest grew with every step, but I kept running, driven by anger, confusion, and betrayal.
When I reached Dominic’s pack house, I barely paused to catch my breath before storming through the doors. The guards immediately stepped in my path.
“Let me through,” I demanded, my voice rough, barely recognizable. “I need to see Dominic!”
One of the guards sneered, crossing his arms. “You have no place here, omega. Didn’t you hear the announcement? You’re not welcome.”
The words stung, but I gritted my teeth, pushing forward. “I don’t care. I need to talk to him.”
The guard grabbed my arm roughly, yanking me back. “And I said you’re not welcome.”
“Let me go!” I struggled, trying to break free, but he only tightened his grip, pain shooting through my arm. “I need to speak to him!”
“Enough!” another guard snapped. “Alpha Dominic doesn’t want you here. You’ve done enough. Now, take her out.”
My heart pounded as they dragged me down a narrow hallway, my desperate pleas echoing off the walls.
The cold realization started to sink in. Dominic wasn’t coming. He wasn’t going to help me. He’d done this—he’d ordered them to throw me out.
They pulled me into a small, dark room, and before I could protest, I felt a searing pain across my cheek.
I gasped, stumbling back as another blow struck me, then another. The guards didn’t say a word, their faces expressionless as they continued, and I felt my strength fading with every strike.
At some point, I hit the ground, my vision blurry as pain radiated through every part of my body. I tasted blood, felt it trickling down my face.
Still, I forced myself to stay conscious, clutching onto the faint hope that somehow, this was a mistake—that Dominic would come for me, explain everything, make it right.
But he never did.
They dragged me to the edge of the forest, tossing me onto the cold ground like I was nothing more than garbage. I tried to get up, but my body refused to obey, I was in deep pain.
The guards loomed over me, their faces cold and unbothered.
“Consider yourself lucky,” one of them spat. “Next time, you won’t get off so easily.”
With that, they turned and left, leaving me alone, bruised and broken on the forest floor.
