I tried to move away from Kayden, but the man was like a piece of steel, his hands at both sides of me now, making it impossible to escape. I noticed how a little vein protruded on Torrin's forehead, and he clenched his lips tight they twitched from the pressure. Yeah, he definitely was not happy to see us.
"Hey, roommate!" The lycan decided to add oil to the fire with a sneer on his face. "Although I guess it would be best to say ex-roommate now. As you can see, I found someone way hotter than you, Tor. No offence. It's nothing personal."
"You are roommates?" I gasped, and the damn Lycan chuckled.
"Not anymore!" The grin on his face was so big that I wanted to kick him where it would hurt the most.
"What is he spouting, Rory?" Torrin tried really hard to hide his emotions, but I knew him too well. He was furious.
"There is a little complication," I sighed, searching for words to help me explain everything.
"She can't be separated from me!" Kayden wasn't helping me at all. What was wrong with him?! "You can say we are practically glued to each other now!"
"What the–" Tor shot an angry gaze at me.
"McLaughlin," I sighed, and his eyes widened.
"Is this your curse?! Being glued to him?"
"Yeah," I rolled my eyes and finally managed to push Kay away. "We can't get away from each other. The distance is really short. So, until we figure this out, we have to live in the accommodation for mates. What is your curse, by the way?"
"We haven't figured this out yet," Torrin said, and I remembered that he was paired with none other than my roommate, vampiress Triss. All this was too cruel! McLaughlin had to be a demon.
"Then good luck to you," Kayden wrapped his arm around me and threw his bag over his back again, pushing me towards the exit. "You figure your curse out, and we need to go and figure out ours. Best of luck! See you in a month or two."
Tor stepped in our way, face grim and brows furrowed, the expression he wore when he was ready for a battle.
"I am afraid I can't allow this," he informed us as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"And who are you to allow us, two royals, anything?" Kayden growled, and this wasn't just any light growl. It was an ominous, dark warning.
"I am Rory's guard appointed by the Dragon Queen!" Tor gave out the information that I would have really preferred to keep secret so easily that now I was the one fuming.
"Why would a general of the dragon army ever need a guard? She is perfectly capable of defending herself. Not to mention that we are in one of the most protected places in the world." Kayden looked like he was about to fight too, and I bit my lip, embarrassed more than when my family and ex accused me of all sorts of things. I didn't want him, of all the people, to know all the recent dirty details about my life. I hated to admit that even to myself, but it mattered to me what he thought. Just when did that happen?
"Tor, we have already seen the headmaster. Nothing could be done about it. Unless you know how to break our curse, then, by all means, be our guest." I moved past my guard, and at least he didn't humiliate me by trying to stop me. That wouldn't have ended well, and some part of Torrin knew that. My patience had limits too.
Kayden and I walked in silence for some time towards the ladies' dorm.
"He isn't here to protect you, is he?" The Lycan asked after a while, and my whole body tensed. What could I tell him?
"More like babysit me." The words slipped my tongue.
"Interesting approach to generals," the wolf hummed but didn't say anything else. For which I was grateful.
We heard her before we reached the door of my room. Triss was definitely in, and she wasn't alone. I knocked on the door, but no response followed. I knocked one more time, and when that was ignored too. So, I banged on the door... only to get the same result.
"That's going to take forever!" Kayden groaned and simply pushed the door open. "Apologies, lady and… gentlemen."
And yes, Triss had the company of two males. Werebears this time, if I wasn't mistaken. Gosh, this girl had stamina!
The trio stopped doing whatever they were doing, and while the guys bothered to cover themselves up, Triss simply strode towards us.
"We really need a system here. I thought it was obvious we were busy!" The vampire hissed at me, but then her eyes went to Kayden and her mood suddenly lifted. "What do we have here? Rory, dear, did you bring me a snack? He looks delicious!"
"Help yourself," I barked and went inside, although the thought of Triss putting her hands on Kay repulsed me for some reason, especially if I couldn't walk away from them enjoying each other. The sudden thought made a shiver go down my spine, and my gaze locked with Kayden's. The damn wolf probably read my mind as a tiny smirk curled his lips.
"A lycan!" Triss purred, not bothered by her nakedness and by the fact that the other two guys weren't even gone yet. "I love playing with lycans!" She giggled and tried to wrap her hands around his neck, but Kayden stepped away immediately and was next to me in less than a second.
"Sorry, love," he chuckled, not even looking at the vampire's perfect body in full display to him. "You will have to play with your old toys. I am taken."
My brow went up at his words. Was he really? However, I pretended not to listen and simply gathered my belongings, shoving them back to my bags angrily.
"What are you doing?" My roommate sat on my bed, looking curious and still wearing nothing.
"Triss, clothes," I reminded her, and she gave me a quick eye roll but then shadows appeared around her, forming a dark dress. It wasn't real, but at least it was covering her.
"I have to move out temporary," I tried to explain, and the corners of her lips went upwards.
"Really?" She wasn't sad at all and didn't bother to hide it.
"Yeah, Kay and I have to move in into the mates' accommodation for now."
"You are mates?" She gasped.
"Gods, no!" I rushed to deny it and heard Kayden's growl behind my back. "It's the curse from that class we had."
"Oh, that?" Triss yawned. "That's one easy class."
"Easy?" My voice turned out incredibly high-pitched. I wouldn't call McLaughlin's class easy.
"Of course!" The vampire tilted her head. "I already figured out mine. That dragon and I have to have s.ex, and ours will be lifted. So, it's easy and fun!"
Yeah, something told me it wasn't it, but who was I to argue? She was Torrin's partner, and if she could distract him in any way, she was welcome to do so by me.
"Fascinating!" Kayden nodded, clearly not buying that either, but also not saying anything to object.
"I know, right?" Triss sneered, and I realised she didn't believe that either, but she was going to tell that to Tor anyway. For a second, I felt sorry for him and debated telling him myself, but then I remembered why he was here in the first place, and that little flicker of goodwill was extinguished on the spot. That was his problem to deal with.
"So, the room is all mine now?" Triss asked nonchalantly, checking her nails.
"Temporarily," I said. "I will be back as soon as I can."
"Yes, yes, great!" She stood up and clicked her fingers at the two guys who were waiting for her to come back silently. "Move the beds together!"
Eww. She wasn't going to do it on my bed, right? Not that I could prohibit...
"Let's go," Kay chuckled as he lifted my luggage bags when I was done packing.
"I can take my bags myself, thank you!" I tried to get them back.
"It's not a question of whether you can do it," the Lycan winked at me. "It's a question of whether I am going to walk right next to you while that happens and do nothing. And I am sorry, but I was raised better than this."
I didn't have the strength to fight him and decided to just go with it.
When we finally reached the new building for mated couples, the first person we met there was surprisingly Torrin again.
"We will just never get rid of him, will we?" The wolf next to me groaned.
"Tor, what are you–" I didn't get to finish the sentence as he dropped a pile of old books into my hands.
"This is half of what I found in the library on curses," he muttered dryly. "I will go through the other half. We'd better sort this as soon as possible."
"Thanks," I forced a smile. Wow, he was fast and eager to separate us as soon as possible. Not that I minded that last part. "I'll start researching today."
If I was honest, I was going to do this anyway. Knowing that Skylar and her friend were cursed made me think of going through everything there was on curses anyway. I knew that Loki was a better specialist on curses, but what if he overlooked something after all? I wanted to try if there was even a slim chance of me helping them.
“You really shouldn’t have,” Kayden’s words were laced with venom. “And, if you excuse us, we have a couple’s apartment to move into. Unmated dragons aren’t allowed inside. It’s the rule, and we didn’t make it.”
Once again, the lycan pushed me inside, and I waved awkwardly at Tor.
“I’ll see you in classes,” I mumbled, but the doors had already closed behind us.
“This guy is worse than STD, always pops up when you least expect it!” he grumbled as we looked for our number.
“Speaking from experience, Kayden?” I arched my brow at him, but he only smirked at me.
“No, I am as clean as the first fallen snow. You can personally check everything if you like, Rory.”
“That’s a hard pass!” I finally found our room and waved the crystal key we received for it. It opened, but once again, we tried to walk inside at the same time, and none of us backed off when we stuck.
“I thought you were raised better than this!” I narrowed my eyes at the lycan, but I regretted it the moment as said it as his eyes flashed.
“You are right,” he dropped the bags and lifted me up in his hands as if I weighed nothing. “Where are my manners, Storm?”
He took me inside bridal style and went straight to the bed.
“What do you think you are doing?” I yelped, trying to wriggle out, but he was surprisingly strong and still had the gloves on, so I couldn’t electrocute him again.
“Making the best out of our situation. What else?” Kayden’s voice rasped through his chest as he threw me on the bed and towered over me…
NOTE: I am sorry for the delay with the chapter. My son had a hospital visit this week, and it took a lot of my time. The next chapter will be on Wednesday. His Evil Luna Accidentally will be updated on Monday. And The Emerald Seer on the weekend.
Please, consider giving your Moon Tickets to my books, and especially His Evil Luna Accidentally, as it is currently in the top 10 (which is super amazing for a new and free book). And thank you so much if you have already voted.
P.S. I will share Kayden's pic in my group Marion Artwood: Den of Dragons and in Alpha Island Arc
